David Hicks was a 34 year old black male. He was on death row in Texas from December of 1987 to April of 1988, sentenced to die by lethal injection for rape and murder, on April 25th 1988, of his 87-year-old grandmother, Ms. Ocolor Heggar. David was only a suspect because he was near her house at the time of the crime. There was no indication that he had been inside¡Xexcept, for DNA evidence. The DNA test determined that similarities between sections of DNA removed from David¡¦s blood and DNA recovered from semen in Ms. Heggar¡¦s house would occur only one time in a total of 96 million people. On the evening of Ms. Heggar¡¦s death she was alone in her house. Eddie Ray Branch, her grandson, testified that he visited his grandmother on the day that she was killed. He was there till at least 6:30 p.m. Lester Busby, her grandnephew, and David Hicks arrived while her grandson was still there and they saw him leave. They then went in to visit with Ms. Heggar. While they were there, Lester repaid Ms. Heggar 80 dollars, which he owed her. They left around 7:15 p.m. and went next door to a neighboring friend¡¦s house. David Hick¡¦s went home alone from there to get something but returned within ten minutes of leaving. Because he was only gone for 5-10 minutes, prosecution theorized TWO attacks on Ms. Heggar because he could not have killed his grandmother during this 5-10 minute period alone. At 7:30 p.m., 15 minutes after the two had left, an insurance salesman called to see Ms. Heggar. He knocked for about 2 or 3 minutes and got no reply. Her door was open but the screen door was closed. Her TV was on. He claimed to have left after about 5 minutes and then he returned the next morning. The circumstances were exactly the same. With concern, he went to the neighbor¡¦s house and called the police. His reasoning for being there was because the grandmother¡¦s family had taken out burial insurance three days before she had died. David had strong ties and a compact relationship with his immediate family. During the course of the trial, the evidence was presented which seems to clear him: „h Several hairs were recovered from the victim; tests revealed that they were not from David Hicks. One was found to be consistent with Asian hair, another consistent with Lester Busby, the grandnephew.
Those three victims the same pattern found strangled and partially nude. Jones was mentally disabled and worked as a part time janitor who was barely literate. Jones was questioned without an attorney and where the victims’ bodies were found he admitted to using drugs in these areas. The detectives in 1995 Jones trial they found that his statements were coerced by the police. So instead they request that the LAPD Crime Laboratory process what available evidence that has DNA on it. In the new investigation, it showed that Jones blood type did not match the samples that’s was found at the crime scene. Jones spent elven years in prison and he was exonerated from murder he was released in 2004 of

His first murder committed was to a young fifteen year old girl who he stabbed. Next was the shooting of two women in the Bronx. After three months, he targeted a couple who was sitting in their parked car, and two girls just walking on the street leaving one paralyzed. The winter time came around in the beginning of 1977 and David’s crimes did not stop here. He approached another couple sitting in their car, and shot them with a .44 caliber just as he used in all of the other crimes, so the cops were finally able to link all crimes that were being committed to one criminal.
He's a lanky fellow, dark-haired and self-effacing. He uses sarcastic humor to hide his insecurity (no one's told him it doesn't work). Even when he's being chased by a 100 feet serpent, he still manages to find the humor in the situation. He's been in a complicated love triangle and lives to tell about it. Mr. Miller claimed that his wife, Mrs. Miller, had gotten drunk and fallen off the back porch of their house on March 31. He stated that Mrs. Miller had fallen at 5:35pm during the Ohio State vs Michigan basketball game, which he watched right after he had finished cutting and raking his grass. He knew his wife had fallen because he heard a scream and had looked down at his Rolex watch right away. Mr. Miller remembers seeing his wife in the grass face down, and he knew right away that she was dead. From there he did not call anyone right away, but at 6:10pm he called Officer Muldoon and claimed that his wife had just fallen a couple minutes prior to the call. After reading through Mr. Miller’s and Mrs. Cleaver’s, a neighbor, alibis and comparing them to the evidence from the crime scene, I believe Mr. Miller had killed his wife.
David is taught by his advisor, Mr. Campbell, that honor must be given to command. “As for the laird, remember he is the laird; I say no more: honour to whom honour.”(Kidnapped. 13) This is to teach David to be humble. He must not assume a mindset of being near status of his uncle. We see however in his kidnapping that this loyalty is not in his best interest. When David is considering leaving his secretive uncle from the beginning, he remembers the words of Mr. Campbell and chooses to remain at the estate. “I will stay awhile. It is more just I should be helped by my own blood rather than strangers.”(Kidnapped. 29) If David had chosen to leave he would never have been kidnapped, but also would never have discovered the truth about his Father. With loyalty being a great virtue, it is evident the effects can be both satisfying and
Hi Pamela, it is nice to meet you. I thank you for being so in-depthed about the knowledge that we just received about immigration. It is amazing to see other cultures come from one extreme form of lifestyle, then settle and make great contribution to this country. I was also intrigued about how Americans flew the Cubans in to be in partnership to help build this country, but on the other hand laws tried to hold them hostage from their families until they thought it was their duty to allow them to return to their country.
Alex Wilson is here tonight to speak about how “You Can Have Your Cake, and Eat It Too,” which he cleverly titled his Keynote speech. I have known Alex for quite some time now, and he has been an integral part of my neurology team at the Jacobson Hospital. He will speak about his journey to success in becoming a world-renowned neurosurgeon. His passion and desire for wanting to become a doctor started when he was young. His grandfather suffered from a severe head injury one night after falling out of bed, and his grandpa never woke up. However, while Alex was in the hospital, he noticed neurologists coming in and out, trying to help his grandfather. Yet they were unable to save him from the blood swelling in his brain.

On June 26, 2016, Jesse Williams accepted the Humanitarian Award onstage during the 16th annual Black Entertainment Television Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The modern day activist was rewarded for his “commitment to furthering social change,” and his work in raising awareness of the Black Lives Matter movement. Williams acceptance speech took a turn from the cliche “thank you mom, thank you dad, thank you chair, and thank you table...etc.” to dedicating the award he worked hard for to black people in general. Williams spoke out about cultural appropriation, racial issues, and social injustice. The poetic speech was a call to action for black people to stand up and fight for equal rights and justice in America.
The first case using Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) evidence became a milestone for the field of forensic genetics. The original crime occurred in the United Kingdom on November 21st, 1983, where a young girl named Lynda Mann never returned home and was found the next day having been raped and strangled. No perpetrator was ever found, but semen evidence was collected from the body. Shortly after this, the criminal struck again on July 31st, 1986, where another young girl by the name of Dawn Ashworth, was also raped and strangled to death, (Cobain). Semen samples were then collected from the body and compared to that of the first victim. The samples were analyzed by Alec Jeffreys, a genetics professor of the University of Leicester. Jeffreys compared
