Music can touch a person’s life in indescribable ways. David Bowie was a world renowned musician whose music covered the world from the 1960s all they way to present day. David Bowie’s music touched the lives of many by reflecting his own experiences into almost every one of his songs. Elton John AIDS Foundation is one of the most well-known charities in it’s field and is well respected throughout the world. Elton John decided to start this organization after losing two of his close friends, Freddie Mercury and Ryan White, to the disease. The foundation was initially set up in the United States (New York) in 1992, and then the United Kingdom (London) in 1993 (Elton). The principal advocacy of the foundation is to improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with or at high risk for HIV/AIDS.

Freddie Mercury was born as Farrokh Bulsara on September 6th 1946 in Zanzibar (now Tanzania) though he spent the much of his early childhood living in India then moving back to Zanzibar. When he was age seventeen, his family had to flee Zanzibar in interest of their safety. The place they fled to was the UK. Freddie was a part of several bands after he moved to the UK, but in the spring of 1970 he joined with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor and started the soon to be world famous group “Queen”. Around the same time, he changed his surname to Mercury, giving us the now one of the most well-known singers of all time.
