INTRODUCTION
The essential component of life can be acknowledged and is made up of a nucleic acid known as DNA. DNA is the abbreviated form for the word deoxyribonucleic acid and it is the “carrier of genetic information” (McMurry, Ballantine, Hoeger, & Peterson, 1992, pg. 775). DNA contains the genetic instructions that are needed for an organism to develop, survive, and replicate, as it plays a crucial role in living systems that makes each species unique and distinctive. The multifaceted material is stored in every cell of every living organisms and it contains information about our nature, appearance, performance, etc. With the instructions that it contains, DNA is passed from the adult organism to their offspring during reproduction. (McMurry, Ballantine, Hoeger, & Peterson, 1992, pg.777).
LOCATION OF DNA
DNA is located inside the cell called the nucleus. Due to the cells being extremely small and each organism having many DNA molecules per cell, each of the DNA molecules must be firmly packaged and this is called chromosome. A chromosome is a lone piece of DNA
DISCOVERY OF DNA
The discovery of DNA is quite mind-blowing. Rumor has it that James Watson and Francis Crick discovered DNA, but they actually did not. It all started in 1869, with a well-known German biochemist named Friedrich Miescher who isolated, analyzed, and recognized a distinctive macromolecule known as DNA. Years later, on the morning of February 28, 1953, Watson and Crick came into the picture, as they announced that they “had discovered the secret of life” (Markel 2013). Their discovery of the double helix made them publish a paper in the 1953 issue of Nature, describing the structure of DNA, which resulted them to receive the Nobel Prize in 1962.

...her child’s whereabouts. Ironically, the jury undisputedly found her “not guilty of murder, manslaughter, and child abuse” and Casey Anthony was not charged with first-degree murder, as there was no equitable doubt.
These two cases shares many similarities, yet differs in a few ways. Both cases at one point were overturned, but remained slightly unresolved. Between these two cases, the murder of Caylee Anthony had America outrage with anger when Casey Anthony was found “not guilty”.
SUMMARY
DNA is continuously evolving as it has developed various aspects of illicit cases, as well as playing vital roles in all cellular systems. The discovery of DNA has impacted and will trigger the fuel of new findings later in the future. DNA does not only significantly affect a cell’s function, but it aids the species to develop and reproduce, despite the altering conditions.
They found Casey Anthony, who was charged with first degree murder of her 3-year-old, not guilty. While she was not guilty of murder, she was convicted on counts four through seven for false information given to the police. The judge sentenced her to one year in county jail for each one of the four counts, but she was released 10 days after she received 1043 days credit. If I was part of the jury I would have said she was guilty of murdering her daughter. Even if she did not kill her, she is still part of the reason why she died. Casey neglected her child either way and did not report the crime to the police until someone else did. I am shocked that the visual evidence did not convince the jury that she was guilty. From the strand of hair in the trunk that matched the past child’s hair, to the extensive research on chloroform found on all web browsers, it was very evident that she did or was at least part of murdering her
The Casey Anthony Verdict Introduction On July 15, 2008, Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony’s mother called 911 twice. One call was to report Casey had possibly stolen a car and money, the second call to report that her granddaughter Caylee, Casey’s daughter, had been missing for 31 days. Casey claimed that a babysitter had taken her daughter and disappeared. On July 16 2008, Casey was arrested for child neglect when investigators found the apartment where Casey claimed the babysitter lived had been vacant for four months.
On December 11, 2008, meter reader Roy Kronk found a plastic bag of human remains in a wooded area near the Anthonys' home. The skull had duct tape on it. On December 19, the remains were confirmed to be those of Caylee Anthony. The trial of Casey Anthony began in June 2011, three years after the disappearance of her daughter, Caylee.According to the defense, Caylee had drowned in the family’s pool on June 16, 2008. On June 30, the defense rested. Casey herself did not take the stand. On July 5, the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse. She received credit for time served and good behavior, and was released on July 17.
The Casey Anthony trial has been arguably the most controversial case since the trial of O.J. Simpson and has been speculated over ever since the verdict had been given in July of 2011. It was decided by a jury of her peers that Anthony was not guilty of murder, for the death of her daughter Caylee. Many believe that Anthony should have been found guilty however, very little Americans actually comprehend the justice system.
In July of 2008, one of the biggest crime cases devastated the United States nation-wide. The death of Caylee Anthony, a two year old baby, became the most popular topic in a brief amount of time. Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, became the main suspect after the child supposedly was kidnapped and went missing. To this day, the Casey Anthony case shocks me because justice, in my opinion, wasn’t served. I feel as if the criminal conviction system became somewhat corrupted in this case. The entire nation, including the court system, knew that Casey Anthony was behind this criminal act, but yet she escaped all charges. I chose this case not only because it’s debatable, but also to help state the obvious, this case was handled the wrong way. Clearly the legal system was biased, which worked in Casey Anthony’s favor, freeing a murderer.
Billy Joel once sang, “Only the good die young”. In life, it is true, the young and innocent seem to touch more lives around us than anyone else. In the Casey Anthony trial, Anthony was a suspect in the murder of her daughter Caylee. Caylee’s life shouldn’t be counted in years, it should be counted by how many lives she affected, the love she has gained, and the support the country has given her to find out what really happened. In the play, Twelve Angry Men, a boy killed his father; however, both cases were challenged by the obvious and the abstruse evidence. Large cities towards the east coast, in 1982, Twelve Angry Men, and 2008, Casey Anthony Trial, affiliated with two major trials able to modify the lives of the living and the dead. For that reason, during the Casey Anthony case, jurors were conflicted throughout the trial.
The Anthony family’s home computer hard drive had searches of “chloroform inhalation,” and “home weapons” on it. Both sides vigorously addressed the location and condition of Caylee’s decomposed body, as well as the odor that came from Casey’s trunk. Casey’s parents took the stand to testify and her father denied all sexual abuse allegations. For closing arguments, both sides pointed out the gaps in the other’s story. On July 5, 2011, after just one day of deliberating, the jury found Casey Anthony not guilty of the murder of her daughter, Caylee Anthony. She found guilty of four counts of providing false information to the police. After factoring in time served, Casey had 10 days of jail time left.
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is an acclaimed extraordinary discovery that has contributed great benefits in several fields throughout the world. DNA evidence is accounted for in the majority of cases presented in the criminal justice system. It is known as our very own unique genetic fingerprint; “a chromosome molecule which carries genetic coding unique to each person with the only exception of identical twins (that is why it is also called 'DNA fingerprinting ')” (Duhaime, n.d.). DNA is found in the nuclei of cells of nearly all living things.
...county has presented was the odor of the car smelling like decomposing human body. The media to me made the case seem more one sided that she was guilty right off the bat the prosecutors must of have the same feeling that will lead up to little evidence they will provide in the court room. In my opinion I do think Casey Anthony is guilty on count of murder she was lien to everyone about everything, steal money from friends and family, and still trying to go out partying when she should have been caring for her daughter. There is not one parent that will go thirty plus days without knowing where their only child is. Even though she lied to law enforcement about her daughter where beings have been for the pass month, it was not enough evidence to convict her of murder in the first degree the charges that the county was actually trying to charge against Casey Anthony.
With a competitive spirit, people are driven to act in ways that they would not otherwise and the results can be drastic. In the case of James D. Watson and Francis Crick, in Watson’s novel the Double Helix, this sensation of competition leads to one of the greatest discoveries in biology. But the actions of Watson, Crick, and their competitors may or may not be justified for the results that they yield; the powerful conflict of rivalry has beneficial, detrimental, and questionably moral consequences that shaped the pathway to DNA’s structure.
On June 16, 2008 Caylee Anthony was last seen leaving her grandparents house with her mother, Casey. In exactly one month, Cindy Anthony, her grandmother, calls the police to report that Caylee has been missing. Casey did call the police, however, to tell them that the babysitter had kidnapped Caylee. July 16, 2008, Casey was arrested for child neglect and false information. It would be hard to indicate that a person was guilty if there was no body found to prove that. On December 11, 2008 the remains of a little girl were found and sure enough it was the body parts of Caylee Anthony. The evidence and surroundings of her death pointed at her mother, however, at the end of the case she was proved to be not guilty for the murder of her child.
The Casey Anthony Trial was the trial of the decade. Everyday across the country, Americans would sit in front of their televisions and watch the trial anxiously. This case is about a child, Caylee Anthony, who was found dead, but the mystery is how she died. Some say she was murdered by her mother, Casey Anthony, while others presume she drowned. Although there was a verdict, what truly happened will always remain a mystery.
DNA is the blueprint of life from its creation to its development and until its death. The discovery of the structure of DNA not only revolutionized science and medicine, but it also affected many other facets of existence: evolutionary, industrial, legal, and criminal justice. Its incarnation has benefitted American families and industries and spurred scientific innovation throughout the country. Aptly stated by Francis Crick, “your joys and your sorrows, your memories and your ambitions, your sense of identity and freewill, are in fact no more than the behavior of a vast assembly of nerve cells and their associated molecules. As Lewis Carroll’s Alice might have phrased it: ‘you’re nothing but a pack of neurons.’ [Watson and my] discovery illustrates how that is possible.”
"The discovery of the structure by Crick and Watson, with all its biological implications, has been one of the major scientific events of this century." (Bragg, The Double Helix, p1) In the story of The Double Helix, James Watson tells of the road that led to the discovery of life's basic building block-DNA. This autobiography gives insight into science and the workings within a professional research laboratory that few members of society will ever be able to experience. It also gives the reader an idea of the reality of life for one scientist and how he struggled with the problem of DNA. However, the author's style is marked by his lack of objectivity and inclusion of many biased opinions and personal prejudices.
Discoveries in DNA, cell biology, evolution, and biotechnology have been among the major achievements in biology over the past 200 years, with accelerated discoveries and insight’s over the last 50 years. Consider the progress we have made in these areas of human knowledge. Present at least three of the discoveries you find to be the most important and describe their significance to society, health, and the culture of modern life. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a self-replicating molecule or material present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent in chromosomes. It encodes the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses.
