I am a leader of the DECA club not only for my accomplishments as an individual competitor, but as a result of fighting through my initial failures, surviving unfamiliar challenges, and setting measurable and attainable milestones. DECA, or The Distributive Education Clubs of America, is a national marketing organization where you compete in marketing scenarios and learn about networking. Through this club I found myself wanting to break out of my shell, therefor getting involved in the business world. My teacher suggested that I compete, so she signed me up for the district competition; I was hesitant to step beyond the barrier of my comfort zone. I had gotten dressed up in a suit and tie, and not knowing anyone or what to expect, we then
“The honored guests moved silently upon the platform, herded toward their high, carved chairs by Dr. Bledsoe with the decorum of a portly head waiter. Like some of the guests, he wore striped trousers and a swallow-tail coat with black-braided lapels topped by a rich ascot tie. It was his regular dress for such occasions, yet for all its elegance, he managed to make himself look humble” (Ellison 114)

Today, in the business world, there are many influential and successful men and women; however, one particular man has influenced my life, as a role model and inspiration. Matthew Menner is the senior vice president of strategy for Transplace, Inc. He works for a leading third-party logistics and technology solutions provider, focusing on transportation management business processes outsourcing. Throughout his life he has held many jobs, but they all have one thing in common: each job he has received is from his network. Though his jobs are respectable, it is not just those that have inspired me; it is how he got there and the process of becoming a successful business leader that motivate me. Matthew Menner graduated from Green Mountain College, where he received his associates degree in liberal arts. From there, he followed his dream of working on the railroad and went to college at Syracuse University and completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration-marketing management, and masters in transportation and distribution-marketing management (Green Mountain College). After meeting Menner during a presentation at Castleton State College, I realized he reminded me of myself. His inspiring story encouraged me to believe I can and will achieve my goals because of the determination and drive he has shown me I possess. I know I can accomplish the unimaginable, because of Menner’s success.
While only a small percentage of the entire workforce was able to participate in the event, its intention was to provide employees with something to strive toward. It was also rejuvenating for those given the opportunity to attend. The event was inspiring and left you with the feeling that you work for a great company and they do care about you; so much so that they are willing to spend a lot of money and provide you with a wonderful experience . The event also focused heavily on the driving force of the company: the students and helping them to improve and change their lives. Employees returned to work feeling inspired and ready to do just that. The event provided the company with an opportunity to invest in their employees, reward them, and make them feel

... integrity. Through the Community Action Program I visited two third grade classes at the elementary school that my company sponsors. The school is sorely lacking in funds and many of the children come from homes where their families are struggling to provide them with the skills necessary to succeed in school. I taught the students for five weeks about the variety of skills one must learn to run a business and how various businesses are needed for a city to function. Each classroom was comprised entirely of children from one of two different ethnic groups, but both were from homes where English was not the first language. I believe my affinity for developing relationships with and between people will be an asset both in the classroom and in the legal profession. I look forward to rising to the challenge of constant change and growth in the ever-evolving field of law.
As an active leader in several organizations, I have had the opportunity to reach out to several different groups of youth throughout my years. The utmost prestigious role I have gained is my Area IX Office in the Texas FFA Association. Being an area IX officer had been my goal since freshman year, and I finally accomplished it this past May. Over the course of the past few months, we have held several leadership camps, but I feel our highest success has been the Area IX FFA Leadership Camp held in June.
First of firsts, what to wear. You keep asking yourself, “Does this make me look fat? Is this color all wrong? Where is the skirt I was going to wear?” Nothing is clean. Nothing looks right. You have ten minutes until you need to be ready to go and you’re running around in your underwear like a chicken with its head cut off. Aaaah! Finally you give up and put on your favorite pair of bedraggled jeans and a solid color T-shirt. Now that you’re dressed you start to calm down, only to turn your thoughts to the next major stress of the evening, the stress on your wallet.
One of my greatest strengths at work that I have recognized is that I am a very patient and decisive worker. Holding the leadership position in high school as a DLC Representative in DECA club has taught me how important it is to be patient when things are not working together. As a DLC Representative, I hear many opinions from my classmates regarding many issues that help me shape my diplomatic point of view. As a trustee, I share my opinion in monthly meetings considering what my classmates believe.

For hundreds of years it has been recognized that not all learning takes place in the classroom. Students mental and social development also occurs outside the classroom in athletics, music, and clubs. No matter what club the student is involved in, he/she fosters organizational, interpersonal, communication, planning, critical thinking, financing, and evaluation skills. A club gives students the opportunity to combine components of their mental and social development into personal action. These students have opportunities to test their skills and talents in different situations. Students will always work together to set goals, develop action plans for achieving those goals and implement those plans. Doing so, students could develop and maintain working relationships and friendships. The soul of a club is the students, but it also consists of many things that happen behind the scenes.
Besides academics, fine arts and sports in school, I have attained leading roles in different groups. This year, I am the Spirit Leader of Student Council encouraging monthly goals and themes and assisting in school events. From creating a student council with a group of peers three years ago we have had success in many events and have found new ways to spread spirit, gather important information and assist with financial groups. Recently, I stepped up to be the leader of the fundraising committee for our ...

This interview helped me gain an excellent idea about a real interview situation. I took this opportunity seriously as I knew that this might be the only situation where I could judge myself before facing a real interview. Therefore I prepared myself to be as professional as possible. I believe I was right on selecting my dress, as my team member Nathan Copey said,
I still had no idea what I was going to wear. I turned to my
