The internet has become a virtual reality for people to do as they please. This has aided to the increase in internet crime. Although, it is becoming a bigger and bigger part of crime, cybercrime will not be the only form of crime; it is not feasible for crime to just exist on the internet. In some ways internet crimes are worse than physical crimes because the internet is like a virtual reality for the online predators. They can be whoever they want to be. Also it is not very difficult for an experienced hacker to steal the identity of another person. ("Computer Crime – Definitions”) However, some types would no longer exist, making the elimination of other types of crime unrealistic. These include all types of physical crimes. Some examples are: drunken driving, shoplifting, murder etc.

The internet is becoming an increasingly more dangerous place. This is due to the fact that you can be whoever you want to be on the internet. Computer crimes can be split into two groups. The first group is ones that target computer networks. These include: malware, viruses, code, hacking, spam, and vandalism. ("Computer Crime") The second group is crimes that use computer networks. These include: identity theft (the most common internet crime), internet scams, cyber stalking, fraud, harassment, drug trafficking, cyber terrorism, copyright infringement, child pornography, and the disposal of stolen goods (black market). (Hinders) All of the crimes listed above successfully exist on the internet. However, internet crimes cannot be persecuted online. Therefore, law enforcement cannot solely exist online.
