Cultural diversity is defined as the cultural differences that one culture has apart from another culture. Although Americans do not see very many cultures other than their own there are many different cultures around the world that differ in their traditions and beliefs. Cultures vary from the language they speak to the clothes that they wear. One culture that is different than Anglo-American culture is the Moldovan culture. Moldovans have different traditions, beliefs, and diets that differ from the Anglo-American culture.
The Moldovan culture has distinct differences that makes it stand out from Anglo-American culture. Hospitality is one tradition that is highly regarded in Moldova. Moldovans will try to make their guests feel at home in their houses and bring out the best they can offer. Even if the family is poor, they will always try and give the guests the best treatment they can. When they bring the guests into their homes they are usually brought into the biggest and best suited room in the house. “Usually, the guests are invited into the “Casa Mare” (big room)-a traditional room in each house where people fast together.” (ICAFair). While the American culture does have people that are hospitable, it is very rare that they welcome strangers into their homes. One could say that one of the traits of the Anglo-American culture is selfish. People from Moldova try to make it so that everyone will feel welcome in their homes. Moldovans take pride in accommodating to guests as much as they can. When Moldovans have guests in their house they make sure to bring out the best food they can offer. The food that is most common in the homes of people from Moldova consists of meat, fish, cheese, and vegetables. Fruit is also something f...

...pulled by horses to get everywhere we need to go. It would take so long to get everywhere that people probably would not travel very far. That is probably why most people in the country in Moldova stay within their village and do not travel. I think traveling in a cart pulled by horses as your main source of transportation would just be insane. Traveling across the country like that would just take too long. The diet that Moldovans have is also something that I’m not sure I could handle. Eating cheese made with fresh milk from goats and sheep does not sound very good to me. They do not have the variety of foods that America does and it would be hard to adjust to not having all the options that the United States has. Having grown up in a society where everything is readily available to you and easily accessible makes living in Moldova seem like a hard thing to do.
Cultural differences are cultures from around the world having diverse aspects of living and practices. Businesses often deal with a numerous amount of cultures on a day to day basis, cultures that are unique and have values that are incomparable to their own culture. Canada and China have many cultural differences that would be helpful to understand when doing business with one another.
The real definition of diversity includes different elements of the identity and culture of each person. Diversity involves cultural differences, such as origins, religious or political affiliation, race, and gender, and other more profound differences, such as experiences and personality. As Banks argues in her research, the real definition involves several elements of our identity (149). Therefore, the way in which we define and conceptualize diversity affects the way in which we interact with people of others culture, race, and affiliations.
Folklores are stories that have been through many time periods. Folklore include Legends, Myths, and Fairy Tales. Legends are traditional tales handed down from earlier times and believed to have a historical basis. Myths are ancient stories dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes. Fairy Tales are fantasy tales with legendary being and creators.
Cultural diversity is about people who identify with a particular group based on where they grew up, their ethnicity, the language they speak, the values they hold and their beliefs. This doesn’t mean everyone will be the same or think the same. The differences of the Italian culture compared to European American culture is hard to see. Italy is filled more with culturally diverse people and respects more of the ethnic groups of the world. The Italian culture show this in their celebrations, food, music, and traditions. Their greetings and life style are known more to the European side of the world than the western side. Respecting diversity encourages people to accept the differences between groups
As we all know, all cultures have their own unique ways that separate them from each other. For example, Armenian culture and American culture. They are two completely different cultures that have different traditions, music, and standards from each other. Although they are unlike, they share many of the same values. Growing up in Armenian culture you are taught to be very family oriented whereas living as an American you spend most of your time focused on work.
In the text, “The American Cultural Configuration” the authors express the desire of anthropologists to study their own culture despite the difficulty that one faces attempting to subjectively analyze their own society. Holmes and Holmes (2002), use the adage “not being able to see the forest through the trees” (p. 5) to refer to how hard it is for someone to study something they have largely taken for granted. The Holmes' article focuses predominately on paradoxes within our own culture, many of which we don't notice. In a paradox, two contradicting statements can appear to be true at the same time. This essay looks at two paradoxes commonly found in everyday life: the individual versus the family and religion.
In America, the existence of so many different cultures and religions can inadvertently cause one religion to impose its values upon another religion. In Grace Paley’s “The Loudest Voice”, however, the school system directly imposed Christianity onto Shirley Abramowitz and other non-Christian students in the school. Teachers in the school tried to enforce Christianity onto the non-Christian children whenever and whichever way possible. The major illustration of this attempt of “brainwashing” was the production of a Christmas play performed mostly by Jewish students. This was an obvious attempt by the school to try to force the other students to learn the value and history of the Christian religion.
Within the United States there is a huge diversity of cultures. Culture is many different things, it is a tradition, it is the values and beliefs passed down from generation to generation, and culture is the identity of any country. Culture helps to identify one cultural group from the other. Although we may live in the same country, city, or state we still differ from one another by the way we dress, our beliefs, language, traditions, music, art, food, religion, and politics.
Throughout history, there have been various perspectives of multicultural differences. According to Meriam Webster (n.d.), culture is “the beliefs, customs, arts, institutions, and the thoughts or products of a particular society or group.” Unfortunately, African Americans, Native Americans, Italians, Irish, Jews as well as various other cultural groups have been profoundly discriminated against and negatively stereotyped (Good Therapy org.). With the frequent mingling of cultures in educational settings, the workplace, and in the social arena, we are bound to encounter cultural differences.
One tradition that has made every country different is its culture. A culture represents and creates the country’s history and traditions. From the hard working environment in China to the laid-back lifestyle in America, these are some examples of unique cultures. Even with different cultures, travelers can experience the hardships that occur when traveling. One article “ Adventure of a lifetime” demonstrated these difficulties when a family moved from America to Peru and their struggles during their transition. During their stay, Lawrence and her children experienced new ideas that were different from America. Some complex situation that arises while making a step in their new culture is the adjustment to the new environment and the language
Cultural diversity is something that mankind has experienced since the dawn of time. Different cultures and different people have different views on the same issues, and it all adds to the diversity that is life. It shows that there is something for everybody. For the most part, there is no one person saying that everyone has to be this or follow that. A person's culture is determined on how they are brought up, what country they live in, how their parents were raised, and what the people around them do and believe in. The differences in culture is what caused people of later time to believe in more that one God, something that, for the most part, is unheard of today. It lead to Feudalism and the divine right to the throne. Different people are brought up to think different things, and the things people learn as a child stick with them forever. Culture is also based on choice, and every person has the choice to do whatever makes them happy. So much is know about culture now because it has been recorded in books such as Gilgamesh, Beowulf, and The Nibelungenlied. Three different books displaying cultural views from three different time periods. And it is with works like these that modern scholars and historians can examine what the people and times were like back then.
Culture is defined as the study of the diversity of human behavior in the present.
Cultural diversity is in our workplace and schools; we may encounter stereotypes while communicating with others, even though we have different opinions toward other cultural values and beliefs. We can learn from another “culture”, but we have to respect their differences. I think in today society, people are stereotyped others based on their race and social class because we automatically judge another person without knowing them and assume they are a certain way. Everyone is different we identify ourselves with our own social beliefs, religious beliefs and racial traits and should not be judged because we are all different
Culture can simply be defined as ‘way of life’ of a group of people. It is about the way groups do things. There can be several ways of thinking about and studying culture. Gail McDonald studied the culture of America through four concepts that include “big, rich, new and free”. (McDonald)For this essay, I would like to define and analyze the American culture in terms of ‘freedom’. I selected this dimension because it has been one of the most distinct dimensions of American culture and it has contributed a lot in making what America is today. It will be interesting to analyze how this cultural dimension has contributed shaping the culture of the United States through the course of time.
