Some scientists have predicted that one of the promising industries in the 21st century is cultural industry. Animation industry, as one branch of cultural industry, is one potential sunrise industry in the 21st century, which has the large number of consumer groups, huge market demands and long life cycle of the products with added values and high internationalization. Now it is playing a more important role in cultural industry. However, if we make a comprehensive survey of the situation of animation,as a capital-intensive, technology-intensive, knowledge-intensive and labor -intensive industry, it is still at the initial stage and each links in the chain is still imperfect. Among 2000 TV stations, there are 4 professional animation channels, 25 children channels, 289 children volume and 200 animation volume. The market space for animation programs is about 26,000 minutes and for children books and audio-video products is 100 million yuan annually, 900 million for children clothes 200 million for toys, 600 million stationary products and 350 million for children food.
With such huge market, the production capacity of animation has improved a lot. As far as TV cartoon is concerned, there were only 46,000 minutes programs from 1993 to 2003, but it increased to 42,700 minutes in 2005 and 81,000 in 2006, which doubled that in 2005 and more than the total of 1993-2003. According to the report on animation industry (2007-2008), by the end of 2006, 447 universities have set up animation major and 1,230 universities established animation related departments. The high tuition of more than 10,000 yuan did not prevent the enthusiasm of the students. Some universities enrolled 700 to 800 students to study animation annually. Now, 64,000 students of animation major have graduated from universities and 466,000 students are learning this major. Because of the encouragement of the government, the mode of talent training has been improved in animation education. However, many problems require to be solved urgently though animation education is in full swing. As animation education is playing more and more important role in Chinese culture and economy, its disadvantages have become a bottleneck which prevents the development of animation industry.
