Cuba: An Island with History and Beautiful Places.
The Republic of Cuba, as it is officially named, is a little country located in the Caribbean. Cuba is the greatest island in the Caribbean and it has over 11 million native habitants, making it be the second most populated after Hispaniola. Even though the capital of Cuba is Havana, its biggest city, the main island of it is Isla de la Juventud. Cuba also has a few of archipelagos and the second greatest city is Santiago de Cuba. The island is as close to The United States as 93 miles away and from Mexico as 130 miles away. In addition there are many countries close to the island like Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, just to name a few. In addition, Cuba is a beautiful …show more content…

Some years later he immigrated to the United States, being this country where he died. In 1952, Cuba was under the tyranny of its president Fulgencio Batista, a dictator and corrupt unscrupulous man. The Batista government was abusive, bloody, and full injustices. Rising disturbance and uncertainty lead to his dispossession on January, 1959 by the most important movement in Cuba of those times, July 26 Movement. Batista and his family were in the hotel “Havana Hilton”, which was renamed years after as hotel “Habana Libre” celebrating the New Year, when surprisingly he was forced to leave the country with his family and immigrate to the Dominican Republic. The July 26 Movement was the most significate movement Cuba has had because of the important role it played fighting for fair government and end of injustices. La Habana is the capital of the city and the principal commercial Centre of Cuba, making it the most populated city of the country. It was founded by the conquistador Diego Velasquez on August, 1515 and it has the most known river, the Almendares River which traverses the city from north to south. The Havana city was stablished by the Spanish and its location made it worked as a trampoline for the Spanish conquest because of the treasures it had. In addition, it was a stopping point for the treasure loaded Spanish galleons. La Habana has the most historic place which is called the Old Havana since 1592 by King Philip II of Spain. To protect this city were built walls as forts to keep safe the city. Actually Havana is famous by its cities Vedado, Old Havana, and Centro Havana which are most visited. La Habana attracts more than a million tourists every year. Habana basically was a trading port in its beginning and also suffered several attacks by pirates, buccaneers and French corsairs. Vessels from all over the world brought products first to Havana with the purpose to be taken by the navy to Spain. The thousands of vessels gathered in the bay of the city charged Havana’s manufacture and agriculture, in order to be stored with the products needed to travel in the ocean like water, food, etc.
