The saying, “Laugh now cry later”, is very well known in today’s society and is use to destroy it also. This proverb is being destructively used to approve negative actions, to approve negligence on working hard for tomorrow’s future. This saying is well thought out so people can carelessly wreak their lives. Individuals take this saying into hand to excuse their absence of interest and productivity.
The first time I heard this saying was towards the middle of my eighth grade year off the mouth of one of my peers. The saying “Laugh now cry later”, was use after he overheard me worrying about my overall grade in class. At the point I actually found the dictum pretty useful in my child mentality. I approved of it. Then my peers and I began to overly use this saying for anything me personally for my lack of work. This cycle was continued for a long period of time.
This saying was fine up in till it began to have negative effects on the people upon me that agreed with it. In high school, there was a great portion of students who were greatly worried about college, education, careers, a...
In the article “America’s Most Overrated Product: The Bachelor’s Degree” by Marty Nemko, the author argues several different views on why higher education may be very overestimated. For starters, the author shares his opinion more than anything else due to him being a career counselor. The purpose of this essay is to explain to the readers that most people start off with the idea of living the American Dream. Which is practically going to college to have a better life and career. But over the time the idea of working very hard for a Bachelor’s degree has become very dimmed. Furthermore, for some people, when they think of the American Dream they think of hope for bettering themselves and also helping their families. Unlike the author, Nemko feels that even the thought of trying to pursue to get a bachelor’s degree is overrated. The audience of this passage would most likely be teenagers going into college and parents. Nemko states that “Colleges are quick to argue that a college education is more
Even after the competitive race to get into desirable colleges has subsided, students are still finding themselves relying on the pressures of success to motivate them and push them forward. In Barbara Ehrenreich’s article “Bright-Sided”, Ehrenreich explains a mindset shared by those in the market economy that is also internalized by students in college and even workers in the workforce, “If optimism is key to material success, and if you can achieve an optimistic outlook through the discipline of positive thinking, then there is no excuse for failure” (Ehrenreich 538). Through Ehrenreich’s proposed positive thinking concept, the stress and pressures that young adults place on themselves are self-imposed and intertwined with their logic and reasoning, but those pressures are initially driven into their mindset by society. People in current society are brought up to believe that they as individuals must take responsibility for their own success; students think that if they use positive thinking, they will get exactly where they want to be, and if they fail, it is because they did not work hard enough. It is exactly this ideology that leads to students presenting “signs of depression, anxiety, and suicide ideation” (Alicia Kruisselbrink Flatt, The College
a quote “ If you can’t change your fate , change your attitude” which is how today
The author believes that students in the current generation are under more pressure than preceding ones. “William Alexander, director of Penn’s counseling and psychological services stated, ‘A small setback used to mean disappointment…’ Now? ‘For some students, a mistake has incredible meaning.’” The specialists that the author chooses to cite are all credible, which helps to build her view on this subject. The research that Scelfo uses also illustrates the fact that a student’s family plays a big role in their overall mindset. For example, Alice Miller, a famous psychologist, observed that “…some especially intelligent and sensitive children can become so attuned to parents’ expectations that they do whatever it takes to fulfill those expectations- at the expense of their own feelings and needs.” Being able to support her argument with the findings of psychologists and doctors avails Scelfo in swaying the reader’s

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
...ege might not be for everyone, for one reason or another- college does benefit its students. It gives young adults a place to transition into adulthood, to have a support system of friends and professors, and balance responsibility. The value of this, to a certain extent, is more than that of the actual education. Though colleges aren’t perfect, they do benefit students, and in turn satisfy the ever changing economic needs. A degree does not equal success, and college is not perfect for everyone- but all college students’ benefit from their education one way or another, creating worldly, accomplished young adults.
... at work. My coworkers saw it as a sign of weakness and proceeded to make fun of my sensitivity for the rest of my employment. They were unaware of how their comments affected me and therefore had low emotional intelligence. Eventually, my emotions were building up inside of me and I did not want to have an angry outburst, therefore I decided to quit my job.
Students in high school and below worry about their grades and moving up another level because of their grades. In college, students worry about their study skills and common sense because in college the grading system and learning are completely different. Mandrell and Farber worked with the idea of high school student and that education system, but Vogel gives insight to the college education system. As a college student, there’s not a way to be able to do the same things as in high school and still expect to pass. As Vogel experiences different situations with his students, he learns that students are focused on their GPA (Vogle, 390). He questions one of his students about why they wanted a higher grade and creates this idea that everything we build on leads to money. Vogel states, “If Grades are money, then learning is a cost...” (Vogel, 391) which is true. From the time a person is born all they have to do is to get ahead in life, to be able to beat everyone around because life can become a competition. People go to school and “learn” to go further in life. However, Vogel makes a good point about learning: “...it’s the learning that 's the goal, we say, not the grade; we want our students to learn about history and philosophy...because doing so will make them better people, better citizens of a democracy.” (Vogel, 390). Somewhere along the line of our education system we have let grades overshadow the real meaning of
Motto: The only thing you have really got is what you are and it is on you forever.
It’s difficult to only choose one when many apply to various life situations so I will cover just a few that I particularly like. The one that I found in this excerpt was “He that lies down with Dogs, shall rise up with fleas.” This saying can be taken in a literal and metaphorical sense which makes it humorous yet a lesson to be learned. I interpret it as being careful of who you decide to hangout and associate with, if you choose to hang around the wrong crowd don’t be surprised when something goes wrong. A few others that I’ve heard used over the years are “a penny saved is a penny earned,” “. . . in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes,” and “ early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” The first one “a penny saved is a penny earned” means that it is better and important to keep the money and save it versus spending it, it’s a pretty straight-forward aphorism. The next one “. . . in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes,” this saying is somewhat funny to me because it is such a true statement. Nothing is guaranteed in life because there is so much uncertainty but the one thing we can be certain of is dying and paying taxes. Last but not least, “early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise,” this was
I live by this quote on my personal life because it's inspiring. The overall meaning is if you have a gift or chance don't sacrifice it and act on it. Don’t ruin your chance and just do it. I try to live by that to always try my best on whatever I do to get the best grades and acquire the most knowledge. Over Junior has been my best year yet. I got out of my comfort zone by doing different thing and tried to be more out there. I believe I did, I joined Various clubs involving me into the overall community of Godinez. Clubs such as Red Cross, CSF, Key club and very recently ASB. Set back I believe would be more in sports because although I did perform I wasn’t
Never forget to laugh. "If you can laugh at it, you can survive it" (Cosby). Life is difficult for everyone. It is how people deal with these strives and struggle is what matters. Sometimes, the best way to get a break from the hardships of life is to simply laugh with friends and family. It’s a Balance process. Some people can be caught up in life’s problems and forget to laugh. Laughter is the mental medicine for life. Laughter supports the health of the body. Laughter can break up the quietness in a room. Laughter can change the room from black and white to a rainbow of colors. Laughter is a result of looking at something in a positive light. Is the glass half empty or half full? Whatever the circumstance, never underestimate the power of a good giggle. Never forget to laugh.
Those who use humor to its best advantage teach others by example. Instead of getting angry when something goes wrong, we should try to look for the humor in the situation. It eases tensions and keeps things in perspective. Humor can energize us when a task has become tedious. Humor can make even the worst of situations tolerable.
