American's spend millions of dollars on sweets, ice-cream, cakes, pastries, soda, and chocolates as the holiday's and birthday's season approach. A recent study indicates that cutting back sugar for 10 days has significant impact. When a study conducted with 43 kids, diet, it was noted that after 10 days of cutting back sugar, their bad cholesterol dropped, reduced risk of diabetes, blood glucose and insulin levels were back to normal. This was a very significant result just by cutting back sugar for 10 days. It suggests that adults can also benefit from this study. It supports that not all calories are equal. The

The numbers in our world don’t lie: A shocking statistic is that there are currently thirty percent more people who are obese than there are healthy. This discussion arose from the staggering facts that obesity is becoming more of an epidemic than ever before. The United States has a choice to make: Take the steps necessary to slow obesity or do nothing at all, like it feels we are currently doing. This can be a good or bad rush, depending on how you assess the situation.

I enjoyed reading Sugaring by Margery Guest. Her purpose was simple; she wanted to explain how maple syrup is made. Guest not only explained how real maple syrup is made but her essay also contained some great imagery. As she described her eating pancakes it made me desire some myself. She stays on topic throughout and makes the reading smooth. Her audience is anyone who enjoys real maple syrup and wants to gain knowledge about it. Sugaring goes above and beyond in showing and explaining its purpose and that also had to do with the style it was written in. The tone of the essay was constant and added to her paper. She used a real relatable voice as she described what it was like in the hazardous situations. The conclusion to Sugaring was great.

It has also been found that another contributing factor to most children’s bad eating habits is the fact that they either rarely or never consume vegetables and fruit. Besides the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables children are consuming large amounts of sugar. Wether it be in candy or desserts, soda or sugary fruit juices children are beginning to consume these at very early ages. According to Larry Schwartz (2014) “Americans consume 130 pounds of sugar every year” (Schwartz, 2014). We must be acknowledged about how it all started, to appreciate how people lived and how they struggled to provide such a commodity. Sugar was a profitable commodity in the fifteenth and sixteenth century. The cultivation of sugarcane expanded to the United States of America, which brought enslaves from Africa to work on the plantation of sugar during the 17th century. Sugar was known as the white gold for its income, which helped the U.S. to achieve independence from Great Britain. Although sugar has the worst history, it is widely used for nutritional, medical and industrial productions, and sugar manufacturing led to an industrial development and economic growth.
Sugar is considered a toxic poison. Sugar leaches the calcium out of the skeletal frame of a human’s body. Sugar literally sucks the calcium straight from our bones; therefore it is known to many as a “skeletal poisonous powder.” There are thousands of individuals struggling throughout the United States with sugar addiction. Sugar is a leading cause of a number of health-related issues. Sugar causes health issues such as, fibromyalgia, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis. Like me, many individuals have no clue that they are addicted to sugar. Up until this single subject design, I thought my eating habits were quite normal. The purpose of this study is to indirectly determine my sugar intake, by counting calories daily and reducing my caloric intake.

Mountain dew is a drink appreciated by millions of American teenagers. Found in almost every vending machine, at social events, and in the average American home, mountain dew is a prominent drink. Although its delectable flavor has apprehended the interest of teens, mountain dew is an injurious drink. Mountain dew should be an illegal drink for American teens because of its harmful ingredients, brominated vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup, and yellow dye, which destroy major body parts, the heart, brain , skin, and teeth. As American teens drink mountain dew throughout their lives, they start endangering their bodies with a loss that will take years to fully recover.
Probably some of the most pleasurable and enjoyable memories of a person has to do with sweets.
