A typical cruise ship is usually around 360 meters in length and can carry around 3,000-4,300 people. Due to superstition, most cruise ships don’t have a deck 13. Most people feel the number 13 is unlucky or dangerous and have a fear of the number. Just like hotels, cruise lines decided to follow, by not having a deck 13. Since 1979, a total of 55 cruise ships have sank and there has been a total of 72 deaths. This is why every cruise ship must have a morgue for 3 or more people and an infirmary, in the case of an emergency. With this being said, cruises are actually very safe vessels. Accidents on cruises are actually very uncommon, and when they do happen are treated and successfully assisted with calmness. In the case of an emergency every person on the boat is assigned a Muster station to report too, every person also has an assigned evacuation boat. There have been many cruise ships built for special purposes such as the size or travel. One of the most expensive cruises ever was operated by the Silversea company in 2013. The cruise cost 1 million pounds per couple and took 4 months total to complete and visited 28 countries. The company Royal Caribbean owns the 3 largest ships in the world, with the largest being the “Harmony of the Seas”. This ship can hold up to 6,000
From the beginning to end, the ships had to go through many changes in order to accommodate all of the cargo. The first ships used suffered greatly in the African water because they were wooden. As time passed the ships were modified for the journeys. For example, copper was added to help fight against shipworms. Rediker mentions in the book the details of how the ship is built and he even includes the measurements of the wood used and the supplies needed. Shortly after explaining this, he mentions the beatings some of the crew had to take if they were to mess up any part of the ship.
The very first paddle boats ran on wood. Coal replaced wood in 1860 and oil replaced coal in 1950. Many of the earl steamboats burned up because the fire used to create the steam would burn the boat. It took 250 pounds of steam just to blow the whistle.

The industry started a major growth phase in the late 1960s and early 1970s achieving more than 2,100 percent growth. The early goal of the cruise industry was to develop a mass market since cruising was until then an activity for the elite. A way to achieve this was through economies of scale as larger ships were able to accommodate more customers as well as to create additional opportunities for onboard sources of revenue. The global growth rate of the cruise industry has been enduring and stable, at around 7% per year in spite of economic cycles of growth and recession. For instance, the financial crisis of 2008-2009 has not impacted the demand for cruises. This underlines that the industry has been so far fundamentally supply based; the ships are built and the customers are found to fill them through various marketing and discounting strategies.
This past summer, my family and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. We had just docked at the second port, Nassau, and were preparing to exit the gigantic ship named the Carnival Fantasy. Once we got to the city, I noticed it was bustling with people of all different backgrounds and cultures. The roads were narrow and some even hilly. I remember coming to the conclusion that a lot of people in the Bahamas must have road rage what from the blaring car horns I could hear around every corner. My family and I were walking along the sidewalk, glancing into shops as we passed them. The weather was unbearably hot, but growing up in South Carolina allowed my family and I to push onward with our adventure. The sun burn on my back started to pulsate in pain any time the sunlight hit it, so we decided to stick to the side of the buildings that provided shade.
The Cruise lines from all over the world have been hit hard with outbreaks of the “Stomach Flu.” This concerning illness is known as gastroenteritis and it can be caused by a handful of different bacteria and viruses. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the “norovirus is the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis in the United States.”(cite cdc overview). Cruise lines have taken large measures to prevent and contain the spread of the norovirus but the latest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean, has been greatly impacted by the norovirus with over 600 passengers infected.
Ocean shipping probably will meet with the pirates, which could lead to economic losses. Technology How to make the vessel keep efficiency by using less fuel, so company could cut the cost. Environment Wrecking on a rock, meeting with tsunami or rainstorm and so on when sailing. o Five – Forces • Threat of new entrants Low, because of high capital demand. The company’s current strategy is to attract more repeat cruisers and new cruisers of different segments by offering different types of packages. Such differences include choice of shorter or longer cruises, a low to moderate price for affordable cruises for middle class, and longer luxury cruises for affluent classes. As part of the company’s plan, Carnival is "going global" through a joint venture with Hyundai Merchant Marine to the Asia market.

Pirates go back to the 18th century. That was the 1701 to the 1800’s. They wear dirty ragged clothing. They smell a lot because they don’t have the proper facilities to use a shower and showers weren’t invented yet. They do murder people so they don’t hog
A second strategy that has been rejected is one concerned with the consumer awareness of SGC. Currently, SGC is only advertising to travel agencies. Coupled with segmentation, SGC’s current advertising strategy has hurt SGC in the sense that consumer awareness is considerably low. Only a small portion of the population even knows that Sea Goddess exists. SGC is only targeting those who travel frequently. They may want to target the portion of the population that wants to travel, but is unsure of where to go or what to do. In order for SGC to reach the consumer, new efforts must be made in the advertising plan. Mere travel agency recommendations are not going to be enough to keep SGC alive in the marketplace. Other vehicles are going to be necessary to spread SGC’s message about the luxuries and benefits of this extraordinary cruise. At the present time, only a small number of all travel agencies have the sufficient knowledge that it takes to make an informative sell to the consumer. It may be profitable for SGC to employ some hi...
Little to there knowledge it wasn't the weight of the ship they had to worry about. It was traveling across the Atlantic Ocean in the dark with many icebergs. The builders of the ship took extra precautions in securing the safety and welfare of its passengers. It exceeded the legal requirement for safety boats, which were sixteen. The Titanic, carrying twenty lifeboats, still didn't have enough for all 2,227 passengers.
I was smacked in the face by a gust of hot, humid Texas air as I found my way off the bus. The once brisk morning was getting hotter by the second. My friend Kristi and I looked towards our left and there she was, the Norwegian Sea. The cruise liner that we would be on for the next week. It was the biggest ship I had ever seen up close. Ten stories high and nearly 1000 feet long. It had an intimidating presence that took one's breath away.
