I believe the movie version of The Crucible does a fantastic job in adapting the play to the movie format. The movie version of The Crucible, in my opinion, not only does the best job at adapting Arthur Miller’s 1950 play but also rightfully expands upon the original in many ways. The movie is not only a good adaptation due to the accuracy, but also the fantastic acting, and expanded set & minor details. Firstly, the movie adaptation of The Crucible does justice to the original by being entirely accurate. The plot of the original play follows true, even including many of the exact lines spoken from the play version. However, the movie adaptation was able to visually show the set and expand on what wasn’t put in the stage directions. The movie added on in many ways, like actually showing the girls playing in the forest like kids, and also the sheer amount of people in the town of Salem, rather than just the described characters. The set team made the movie feel like it didn’t just take place in a courtroom, rather the town of Salem itself. As mentioned earlier, the movie adaptation of The Crucible added the deleted scene in the original play, but it also added many other things. For example, it added an extra character, the 3rd judge, the scene of Abigail accusing Reverend Hale’s wife of witchcraft, and giving many characters like Martha Correy and Rebecca Nurse more screen time. The expanded set and more details added can only improve on the original play, and it does a fantastic job at doing so. Concludingly, the movie adaptation of The Crucible goes above and beyond in doing justice to the original play.
