How Fear Affects Our Everyday Lives
Fear can be a harmful emotion based depending on the situation you're in and affects us differently. Fear shows us what our thinking process is like and how it can change depending on our actions. Certain fears can be a great excuse to improve your life and make it more enjoyable to live. Many people don’t want fear to overcome them and control the actions that they take, but most of the time that is what happens. Fear controls us, it makes us lose opportunities with things, but also shapes us to how we are today. People should feel that it's a great thing to have fear and they can overcome it. In the story of The Crucible Act 2, Elizabeth is talking to her husband John Proctor and says “John, if it were abigail that you must go to hurt, would you falter now? I think not.” Earlier in the story John made the mistake of having an affair with abigail and now since he wants to go to a place where they might be alone again Elizabeth is fearful that he might cheat on her again with abigail. Elizabeth feels that she is not beautiful enough for proctor anymore and that he will throw her into the ditch and left untouched. Also, in The Crucible Act 2, John Proctor is accepting what he did and said “ If the crop is good I’ll by George Jacobs heifer. How would that please you?” John is trying to appease his wife as much as he can because of what he did earlier in the story when he broke his promise to his wife and cheated on her. Proctor is trying to revive his marriage and wants to be there for his wife. He feels the guilt of what he did and is afraid he won’t be able to get Elizabeth back. In the story of From Farewell To Manzanar, “Do you think I would ask losing a son for that?” In that quote Papa is saying that he would not want to take the risk of having his son die to fight for his country. He denies his son from going into the army, woody just listens quietly. It shows that woody does not fight with his father because he will be going into the army anyway and respects his father. To give some background information, they are in a camp and the U.S. thinks they may be linked to the pearl harbor attacks because of the way they look. Fear can make us hurt people and distrust others. In the article Outsmart Your Brain, “ Do one thing every day that scares you.” In this quote, they are saying that we should try to improve ourselves everyday by using fear.
