Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is a film set in China, telling a story of loyalty, love and betrayal. Ang Lee is the director, and music plays a significant role in the way he tells the story. The film score is created by Tan Dun and cellist Yo-Yo Ma, plays it. Dun uses traditional Chinese instruments like the erhu, a two-string fiddle instrument and pipa, a mandolin. These are the instruments that make the film feel like it indeed takes place in China. These instruments are not only defining the proper Chinese setting, but answer the emotions the characters depict in the film. The most significant thing Dun has done in his score is that he employs a classical Western symphonic orchestra. Thus, this makes the film far more interesting and …show more content…
This is an attractive approach for any film to be viewed. The 'clicking' of bamboo woods, the bustle of a bustling tea-house, clashing swords – all local components that help the film blend into its megapolis setup. Also, these components, joined with the score, will make a 'lush' 'corresponding' "soundscape" that is virtually as critical to the film as the motion picture itself. Film 'Amélie' Amélie' feature film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet can be seen as an enticing excursion across the beguiling roads of Paris entirely utilizing the viewpoint related to an odd character's eyes. The score combined through each 'Yann Tiersen' is genuinely suggestive and perhaps just about as significant as the moving picture itself and its 'dazzling' cinematography. Tiersen composes music thinking about the accordion, the piano, and mandolin; truly echoes the sentiment associated with sentiment loaded with an undercurrent of capriciousness. It makes the best out of the design seen in Paris without suggesting any kind of generalizations – making it the absolute best distant soundtrack that may at any point be seen for French

The Great Depression of the 1930’s caused widespread poverty, but the popular culture of the time did not reflect this. The film Mad Max Fury Road is a visually stunning film set in a post apocalyptic world. It follows the stories of protagonists Max and Furiosa as they take a group of runaway wives to “the green place”. It is a very action driven film that relies heavily on visuals. One such aspect is that of costumes. The costumes are affected greatly by the harsh environment the world of Mad Max takes place in. Resources are not bountiful and the weather and climate are vastly different from the present time. In addition, societal values have changed in this world. Positions of power are determined by the access to resources and are reflected through costume. The costumes in Mad Max Fury Road expresses the positions, traits, and lifestyles that the characters possess.
In the scene when Amélie’s perfume cap drops to the floor and hits the wall tile, sound effects emphasize the visual image of what actually happened. Before the cap hit the floor, the background music became silent, and all the audience heard was a loud band from the cap. After the cap hit the floor, it quickly rolled, and knocked a tile off the wall. After the cap hit the tile, a loud rumble emphasized that there was importance that lied behind that wall. The director applied multiple sound effects to key the importance as to the box that was behind the wall. Although the sounds were simple, it created an interesting vibe to the audience. Some of the key sounds of the scene were the cap hitting the floor, the cap knocking the tile of the wall, and the loud rumble that occurred after the hole in the wall was created. On the other hand, this film also uses silence expressively. In the final scene, when Amélie greets Nino at her door, silence expressively describes the mood of the two characters. The only sound the audience hears is the kisses they are giving to each other, but even their facial expressions describe that they are in love with each other and meant to be
One of my favorite films of 2015, and the one that most exceeded my expectations, was George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. While I love car chases and explosions (and Tom Hardy) as much as the next person, that was all I thought the movie would have to offer. I was wrong. Mad Max may be the title character, but the real hero of the film is Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron. Furiosa is high up in the military ranks of the Citadel, a post-apocalyptic society lead by Immortan Joe.

Chapter 4: The Icon When he played The Dude, a laid-back slacker who gets involved in a kidnapping plot, in Joel and Ethan Coen's comedy The Big Lebowski (1998), he became an icon in the late 1990s. The film also featured John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro. Bridges was dissatisfied with the movie's reception because it was a commercial and critical failure. However, the film became a cult classic, spawning a loyal fan base, an annual festival, and a religion known as Dudeism. Bridges embraced his role as The Dude, often wearing his character’s clothes and accessories in public and even writing a book called The Dude and the Zen Master (2013), in which he discussed his philosophy of life with his friend and Buddhist
Sound and Editing are two factors that can affect our movie watching experience. They usually work together to push the story forward, determine how fast or slow the pace of the film should be, and what mood should the audience feel. In this paper, we will be specifically focusing on sound and editing of the films Hugo and compare it with the film Amélie, which both at least nominated in best sound and best video editing. These two films both used different elements and techniques in terms of sound and editing that I think it would be interesting to discuss.
In relation to contemporary cultural aesthetic, the postmodern adopts two modes: mainstream mode and oppositional mode (Hayward 302). In Amelie, a mainstream approach is taken through the mannerisms and stylization of the film, through pastiche. Amelie resembles a mainstream use of pastiche and bricolage, which can be seen through the assemblage and mixtures of the different styles and genres. The assemblage of different genres is a common characteristic that is found in many postmodern films. We get a blurred line of genres ...

Mise-en-scene, Cinematography and Sound in the Film Leon (Luc Besson) 1994 In the opening sequence of Leon, Besson uses a travelling aerial shot of a lake followed by a huge park, which is finally dominated by huge, cosmopolitan skyscrapers. The camera rests here to show the contrast in jungle and urban life. We then enter the urban city, where several travelling shots going through the streets are used giving an apparent sense of setting and location. The added use of non-diagetic sound combined with many beautiful shots of New York's streets combine to produce a very mysterious atmosphere.
