Critique of a Contemporary Kindergarten Design From Japan

INTRODUCTION

The benefit and value of architecture and urban design is required to raise quality and profile of the built environment. In the pursuit of design excellence, it is important to exude collaboration, creativity and also accountability in architectural marvels. The basic and core elements of architecture includes quality of experience and quality of space. These, although being the core elements, are often difficult to achieve in the two dimensional realm of procedural documents. On one hand, a poor design may be too apparent; a good design, on the other, may go unnoticed (Alperovich, 2013). Therefore, in the process of satisfying varied technical or temporal requirements for a typical new project, experiential and spatial quality might be overlooked; therefore, a finished project may be considered adequate, it may have missed few opportunities to serve its occupants and the surroundings better. From an architectural point of view, school offer a challenging and exciting opportunity for owners and architects to go beyond the basic requirements and needs of different formulas of utilization and functional programming (Yoong, 2012). Also, design excellence understands the value of architecture to be able to create a sustainable environment that is able to enrich the lives of occupants and is also able to inspire learning, creativity among teachers and students alike. Furthermore, it should also be able to contribute to pride, vitality, and also the unique identity of the local community (Alperovich, 2013).
