For as long as time can recall, critical thinking has been misunderstood. Culture and media bias has always had a large influence on the way that people think. People who turn to critical thinking are often referred to as skeptical, negative, hypercritical, and focused on faults. They are seen as hard to please, lacking spontaneity, imagination, and emotion. Left to our own vices, our natural way of thinking involves biased, uninformed, and prejudice thoughts. These methods of thinking can be costly both is monetarily and affect the quality of life. Critical thinking is an art, analyzing and evaluating thoughts with a view on improvement. As a result, critical thinking will help formulate clear and precise thoughts and raise vital questions and realistic solutions. Those who use critical thinking on a regular only refer to relevant information and use abstract ideas to interpret the information. They are well reasoned and often come to sound conclusions and bounce them off of factual criteria. They always consider the consequences when viewing their own opinions and assumptions and they are typically always able to effectively communicate with other in figuring out complex issues. In short, critical thinking is self-directed, disciplined, monitored and self-correcting. Some of the basic fundamentals to critical thinking begin with the idea that no two ways of thinking are equal. Thinking critically should in itself accomplish the purpose of thinking. Purposeless thinking is aimless and provides no value. It more times than not will lead nowhere and to endless streams of conversation and arguments that will get nowhere. Most people have issues creating purposeful thoughts that lead to more problems, more arguments, and either solutions that will cause more problems than were originally at hand. Think of critical thinking as an exercise, fitness for your mind. It takes serious commitment and dedication to create systematic and purposeful thoughts. Those who choose to think in a discerning, discriminating, exact, and judicious manner will continue to monitor and asses their thinking and have a better ability to keep their thoughts on track.
