Glenn Jeffries Critical Thinking Assignment 1 When you first purchase a PC you will notice that almost every PC has a BIOS integrated in it and you usually are able to access it when you first boot it up. BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System and is a simple set of electronic instruction’s that a PC when it starts up. It is the third type of software a pc needs in order to function properly. The BIOS is basically the foundation that allows your computer hardware and software the ability to communicate with each other. BIOS is also generally stored in the motherboard of a PC and is usually stored on a rom chip which reassures that it cannot be damaged by errors such as disk failures. Typically during a BIOS startup it checks to see if the …show more content…
It also If your Bios ever needs to be updated the first thing you should do is check with your PC manufacture’s website and see if they have the latest bios for your particular PC. When doing this also make sure you download the right BIOS for your PC model and download the exe file and install it. On older PC’s updating your bios may require you to do it differently such as having to put it on a CD and boot from it to install the latest update. Usually a BIOS update can help your computer run more smoothly and fix a lot of problems that you may have ran into in the past such as compatibility issues with software and your PC’s boot speed. Lots of the times when you get a new PC you might need to update your bios because it they usually come with a lot of bugs that need to be patched. On Mac computers they do not have a traditional Bios like a windows one may have, instead they have a boot firmware that like to call “Open Firmware”. Just like BIOS, Open Firmware also is accessible on the initial startup of the mac and it also provides you were the options for technical diagnostics and the ability to debug your computer. In order for you to access Open Firmware on your mac you when you first start it up you should hold down “option,” “command,” “0” and
The setting in both Lord of the Flies and I Only Came to Use the Phone contributes to the dehumanization of the characters in each of the readings. The settings are both isolated, which is the cause of all the chaos that takes place because when you take a human being out of the comfort of society, they go back to their natural animalistic tendencies in order to survive. Survival of the fittest is present in these quotes. Also, the island archetype plays a huge role in both of the stories.
Motherboard- is the part of a computer that contains the computer’s basic circuitry and components. It allows the CPU, RAM and other components to communicate.
Selah Saterstrom’s The Pink Institution is a novel set in the Deep South following the Civil War. It tells the story of a family over many generations from the point of view of the narrator (who is assumed to be the author of the novel). Saterstrom’s novel is considered to be a historic autobiographical gothic novel. Over the years, this novel has been the topic of many enthusiastic debates over whether the work is actually a novel or even gothic in nature. After reading and analyzing the work at length, there is no doubt that this work illustrates many themes found commonly in gothic literature.
The story takes place in St. Andrew Valley, an ordinary town with not much in it. Jason and his friend look for snails sometimes, exploring rivers and basically anywhere with moisture. Jason attends Teen Power Outreach sessions held in the church basement every Thursday because his mom forces him to. He also goes to mass every Sunday at the Church of the Good Shepard. One day he has a revelation while under the water tower: water is life. After making a new religion centered around the water tower, he recruits disciples and eventually they go to the top, where things go badly. They swim in the reservoir and then Henry falls off and lands on the catwalk, breaking many bones. Afterwords they get arrested and Jason goes to jail for six hours until his dad bails him out. Henry goes to St. Theresa's Hospital. Near the end of the book, Jason and his friends go to the mall, where he gets hit in the head with a crutch, then hits his head on the floor and gets a mild concussion and seven stitches. The story ends with Jason in the hospital, reflecting on the events of the book.
I have always considered myself a well-rounded and logical thinker; that is until I started the class Humanities 101 – Critical Reasoning. Since I was young, I have always attempted to use truth and facts in arguments that I have been involved in. I was a successful arguer, or what I thought was a successful arguer. On numerous occasions, I have reasoned my case well enough for my counterpart to turn their viewpoint around and agree with me. However, I now see that I used flawed logic during many of these arguments. While I was not completely egocentric in my rationale, I used many nonegocentric attributes to further my cases. For example, using the egocentric thinking flowchart, I would try to protect myself whenever I could and fight for my point of view. This would sometimes appear to come across as inflexible in my thinking; however, I did not feel I was getting all the relevant information to diverge from my original stance. With that, if my flawed logic were highlighted with reasonable justification, I would sway my position, if it made logical sense to me. After taking the course, I am now aware of what logical fallacies I was using and how egocentric my rational was.
I have trained for the past four years to gain muscle mass so that I can enter bodybuilding competitions and win them. I have not entered any competition yet but I will be competing when my body-weight reaches 80kg, 10% body fat. But right now the goal is to gain muscle mass. It has been really tough eating clean and working hard in the gym day-in day-out. Initially, it was difficult to figure out what foods to eat and what was good for my digestive system and how many calories I was consuming each day. I ignored this tracking process for the first two years but after reading articles on the internet about the importance of tracking my workouts as well as my daily Macronutrient intake, I started the tracking process. This process really helped me in knowing my body.
Nicola Chiaramonte stated in her review of Albert Camus’ literary works that he was born during the time of turmoil at the beginning of the First World War, then came the Depression and Hitler and finally the Second World War. “The world in which he grew up was a strugPatrick Moser in his criticism about Albert Camus explains, in part, the title of The Stranger. “If we are able to refuse the misleading aid of religion or of existential philosophies, we then possess certain basic, obvious facts: the world is chaos, a ‘divine equivalence born of anarchy’; tomorrow does not exist, since we all die. ‘In a universe suddenly deprived of light and illusions, man feels himself a stranger. This exile is irrevocable, since he has no memories of a lost homeland and no hope of a promised land’” (Moser).
Well, Before anything else, here is a few names of components that need to be known to not be completely lost. The CPU(Central Processing Unit) (It processes everything from basic instructions to complex functions.) (Techterms.com). The Hard drive (the location of all the computer’s folders, files, and information, saved magnetically so even if turned off it’ll all stay saved). The RAM (Random Access Memory) (The more RAM your computer has, the more data can be loaded from the hard drive into the RAM, which can effectively speed up your computer.)(Techterms.com), The OS (Operating System) (just what it sounds like, this is the system that works the computer, as in Windows, Linux, and Apple OS.) The Graphics card (helps the CPU by processing the graphics portion of what the CPU has to process). The Disk Drive( this is the CD,DVD, or Blu-Ray driver that is installed to use CD’s DVD’s and or Blu-Ray disks.) The last major term to know is the Motherboard ...
When trying to define critical thinking you might run into some challenges along the way. Critical thinking is a widely used yet vague term that is practiced by different people in a variety of locations throughout the world. Critical thinking is a strong virtue for the majority and the worst enemy for others. Needless to say without critical thinking we would be nowhere close to where we are today pertaining to our technological and social endeavors.
The motherboard is the main circuit board of a microcomputer. The motherboard contains the connectors for attaching additional boards. Typically, the motherboard contains the CPU, BIOS, memory, mass storage interfaces, serial and parallel ports, expansion slots, and all the controllers required to control standard peripheral devices, such as the display screen, keyboard, and disk drive. Collectively, all these chips that reside on the motherboard are known as the motherboard's chipset. On most PCs, it is possible to add memory chips directly to the motherboard. You may also be able to upgrade to a faster CP by replacing the CPU chip. To add additional core features, you may need to replace the motherboard entirely. (Glossary)
These days we know that computer are something which is important to make in our lives but have you imagined how a computer would work without an operating system? It won't work without it, so the operating system is the main thing in using computer. There are many kinds of operating systems, for example Mac which is for Apple devices, Linux which was developed by Linus Torvalds, and Microsoft windows. The Microsoft Corporation developed many types of windows operating systems over the years like windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. The Windows 7 and Windows 8 are the latest Microsoft operating systems. Both operating systems have many benefits which the users like and also they have got disadvantages that user hate. Most users prefer windows 7 more than windows 8 because it has more advantages than windows 8. I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both operating systems.
A CPU has various discrete units to help it in these tasks for example there is an arithmetic and logic unit(ALU) that takes care of all the math and logical data comparisons that need to performed. A control register makes sure everything happens in the right sequence. The motherboard is the main circuit board inside the PC. All other components are either slotted into or soldered to this board.
There are four types of memory. These are the RAM, ROM, EEPROM and the Bootstrap loader. The RAM, also known as Random Access Memory, is the temporary space where the processor places the data while it is being used. This allows the computer to find the information that is being requested quickly without having to search the hard drive space. Once the information has been processed, and stored onto a permanent storage device, it is cleared out of the RAM. The RAM also houses the operating system while in
Critical thinking is a significant and essential topic in recent education. The strategy of critical thinking skills helps identify areas in one's courses as the suitable place to highlight, expand and use some problems in exams that test students' critical thinking skills.
The motherboard is the main circuit board of your computer and is also known as the mainboard or logic board. If you ever open your computer, the biggest piece of silicon you see is the motherboard. Attached to the motherboard, you'll find the CPU, ROM, memory RAM expansion slots, PCI slots, and USB ports. It also includes controllers for devices like the hard drive, DVD drive, keyboard, and mouse. Basically, the motherboard is what makes everything in your computer work together.
