I’ve been reading Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly. For our first book meeting I was absent, but our group decided on reading through Chapter 4, which was about 64 pages. The book follows three main characters; Herta, a German doctor; Caroline, an ex-Broadway actress; and Kasia, a Catholic teenager living in Poland. Each chapter switches the perspective to one of these characters and tells part of their story. The structure of this book really helps me keep reading because every chapter is different. If you are bored with the chapter you are on, you know the next chapter will be breath of fresh air. It’s hard to fully capture the personality from only one or two chapters, but I’m not in love with all of the characters. Caroline, who works as

Anita lives in a big compound along with all of her relatives. They live together with all their cousins and have fun at the pond or the gate of the compound. In the story, her father and uncle are involved in a plot to overthrow the evil dictator, El Jefe. By the end of the novel, Anita grows up from being a young wide eyed kid to becoming a grown up adult because of all the hardships she endures. (Good thesis statement)
The third chapter is quite a different spin from what I read in the previous chapters from author's Gloria. E. Anzaldua's book entitled Light In The Dark/Luz En Lo Oscuro. Chapter three is quite interesting. In this particular chapter on page 48, she reveals her identity as a jotitita (queer Chicana). Anzaldua goes to further states that this "mexicatjena-to enter a museum and look at indigenous objects that were once used by my ancestors"(48 Anzaldua). What is interesting to me is the she ponders on whether or not she finds her historical Indian identity at the museum. In addition, she also questions whether her identity could be found along the ancient artifacts and their as she puts it their mestizaje. I really

Imagine being a young girl dreaming of becoming a woman and flying like a super hero over your neighborhood, seeing everything that happens at night. Then, you wake up to realize you are still a young girl sleeping in your room with white “princess” furniture. This is part of the narrator’s dream in the story “Volar” by Judith Ortiz Cofer, but what exactly does this dream mean? Many details can be interpreted by analyzing the character and theme, both by using the reader response approach and the psychological approach made, mostly developed by Sigmond Freud’s theories.

“The school musical is tonight, and I would like to go see it.”(Levithan pg.67) A also left the party late so he was not going to be able to get to his house” I drive as fast as I can, but it’s not enough.”(Levithan pg75) He ends up parking on the side of the road fell asleep so it would not hurt him to transfer from body to body” At 11:50, I pull over to the side over to the side of the road. If I close my eyes, I should be able to fall asleep before midnight.”(Levithan pg75) Which was a big mistake because the next day Nathan had reported that the devil possessed him and he wants to find out if there are other victims as himself” THE DEVIL MADE HIM DO IT.”(Levithan pg84) Nathan at the end finds a way to communicate with A because he forgets to log off out of Nathan’s computer”…is an incoming message from none other than Nathan Daldrdy.”(Levithan pg80) This proves that ever since A had Rhiannon as his first priority he has done his duties sloppy. Also that love makes people forget about everything that is not allowed and makes us irresponsible. For these mistakes that A caused Nathan’s reputation kind of got ruined he has people making fun of him and has his parents have trust

Devon and Jackie had gone to college together, but they never really began dating until the spring of their senior year. “We were really good friends, but we hadn’t been dating that long when we moved together to the Cape. About 2 months later we decided to move to British Columbia”, explained Jackie with the biggest smile on her face. At 22, they both had enough money saved up from working that they could take this risk of moving away from home, across the country. It was that moment in their lives where they knew they could be adventurous and try something new.
In the next two chapters of the Herrera text, Herrera talks about the last dimension of CLD student biography which is the academic dimension. This involves all aspects of teaching content in the classroom. Then Herrera goes on to explain methods for teaching in the way of biography driven planning, teaching, and assessing. I am going to focus more on the last dimension in my reflection because that chapter really spoke to me.
