A prosecutor, Adam Foss, delivers an informative speech to a large audience about using the powers of his position to provide opportunity to young offenders rather than charging them with the full extent of the law. The very beginning of his speech was well planned out and served a purpose to what would be part of his conclusion. He asked members in the audience to raise their hands if they had ever committed one or more of several crimes as a youth (Foss, 2016). Practically everyone raised his or her hands. Then, he asked how many had ever spent a day in jail for the offense they committed. You can probably guess, practically no one raised his or her hands. Adam Foss recognized that our criminal justice system was in desperate need …show more content…
Adam showed that the way our criminal justice system is working must change. By providing opportunities for young offenders versus a criminal record and incarceration can actually make our communities more positive and safer while also saving a substantial cost to tax dollars. I believe it will be a very lethargic process to make the necessary changes to our criminal justice system. The reason for this is the simple fact that it is a “system” already in motion and changes are never easy. However, Adam made a point to stress being more involved during election time to get the right District Attorney into office. Specifically, he said to ask three questions, and if any of those could not be answered, then that prosecutor should not be doing the job (Foss, 2016). Those questions are: 1. What are you doing to make my neighborhood and me safer (Foss, 2016)? 2. What data are you collecting and what are you training your prosecutors to ensure its working (Foss, 2016)? 3. If it’s not working for everybody, what are you doing to fix it (Foss, 2016)? I’m completely onboard with society to start making complaints about prosecutors across the county. They truly are the most powerful player in the criminal justice system and should be held more accountable for our overcrowded jails and prisons. This would put a big relief on law enforcement that is taking such a public lashing for the system by redirecting it more appropriately to the

In conclusion, either while watching television or listen to the news you hear of how certain things are tainting our criminal justice system or that certain things or people are being corrupted in the system.
Although criminal justice professionals are aware of the consequences of high incarceration rates, the problems that these bring and have order states to get rid of their overpopulation in prisons along with other measures, it is still not enough.
Most people have the common view that the criminal justice system’s increasing arrests and imprisonment is an effective strategy for reducing crime. If the judicial system makes greater distinction among violent and nonviolent crimes, the prisons will have the vacancies to incarcerate the Jeffery Dahmers of the world in prison for life. By providing alternatives to imprisonment for nonviolent offenders will reduce the burden of taxpayer’s dollars for added funding for construction of new prisons. I know as a College Student I would like to see increased State funding for education system rather than the millions allocated to the prison system of Pennsylvania.
Show the problem exists: “Critics of the juvenile justice system claim that approximately 500,000 youths who move through to the nation’s pretrial detention centers each year—70 percent of them nonviolent offenders—are thousands too many and that this experience may even increase the chances that they will commit more crimes and go “deeper” into the system” (Hardy 2007). These numbers are staggering. Of these half a million youths 350,000 of them will be re-incarcerated in just a matter of 12 months or less. This is an epidemic that can no longer be avoided. The arrest rates for juvenile violent offenses have also significantly increased over the past few decades with a 61% rise in arrests for violent offenses, even despite the fact that violent offenders are a relatively small proportion...
The justice system in America is a failure and should be immediately reformed to a more standardized system that encourages reform over punishment. This is clearly evidenced by the 76.6% of prisoners that are rearrested within five years of release, the inequality of sentencing based on race or socioeconomic class, and the widely varying prison terms, which in many cases do not fit the crimes committed.

... even willing to die for money, so in order to truly address this juvenile delinquency problem we cannot just address the surface level social issues, but must also, and perhaps more importantly, focus on the economic foundation that motivates juveniles to continue a path of crime. Economic problems are the only factors that contribute to social issues, but the resources being wasted on these corrections facilities and other ineffective socially addressing programs should be better spent on improving the economic situation of communities. About one-quarter of juveniles who offended at ages 16-17 also offended as adults at ages 18-19, therefore the growing urgency and importance to address juvenile justice is undeniable, because by addressing juvenile delinquency you are addressing crime in general (“Child Maltreatment & Juvenile Delinquency: Facts and Figures").
