I have chosen Criminal Justice as my intended major because of the many job careers that come with having that degree in this field of study. I chose this because my dream is to become an FBI agent and with this major I get to study sociology and psychology and also law enforcement which is really interesting. Becoming an FBI agent opens many doors for you within the government system, also GS-10 employees, earn $43,441 per year. In order for me to achieve this goal I would have to receive an four year bachelor degree from an accredited university or college. I am willing to work hard in order to accomplish this goal of mine. The Myers-Briggs Inventory was not in line with my career choices but this is not stopping me from completing everything
The individuals within our society have allowed we the people to assess and measure the level of focus and implementation of our justice system to remedy the modern day crime which conflict with the very existence of our social order. Enlightening us to the devices that will further, establish the order of our society, resides in our ability to observe the Individual’s rights for public order.
Gaining an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system, throughout my Bachelors program has been exciting as much as an eye opener. Some of the subjects were ones that I did not expect. There were also, ones that had no idea how ignorant I was on the subject.
We are all faced with articles and news reports detailing crime occurring all over the world, crime that affects all types of communities, crime relating to religious, gender and age differences to name but a few. I have always paid close attention to the punishments handed out to criminals, in which I always seem to find myself debating on whether these punishments have been fair or are un just.
Lawrence Jones, a professor Emeritus in the College of Education at North Carolina State University; studies school counseling and career counseling and development, states, “recent studies show that a good personality-major match is related to college success. Generally, the better the match the better students do. So, unquestionably, choosing a major is one of the most important decisions you will make. ”A good choice in a major could lead to higher grades because you will have more potential to finish your major, it will help you be more motivated, you could finish college in four years, and you will be more fulfilled and well off in your future career (Jones 3). With my own experience so far in college, this depiction of having more motivation which leads to doing better in your classes when you choose a major that you are interested in is accurate. I have loved the sciences ever since high school. All of the classes were just so interesting and I enjoyed learning about science, even if it was hard. When I got into my junior year of high school, I took a chemistry class, did very well in it, and loved it. Ever since then, I have had a passion to study chemistry, which lead me to choose a biochemistry major. Because I love learning about chemistry and biology, I am more motivated to study, which leads me to do better in my science classes. Since I chose a major that I am interested in learning about, I will do better. This is similar to why Mike and Sulley choose their major based on their likes and talents, and this is one way how Monsters University portrays college
The main point of Jessica Tomer article “The truth of college majors” is that she explains that many worry about choosing the right major in order to get a great job. Furthermore when they worry about it they always seem to pick a major they have no clue about. She also give out great examples of how other experienced college students got to where they are, most of them knew what they wanted to major in from middle school. For example she talks about a student that knew he wanted to be a Federal agent worker but didn’t how to get there. In addition he started by majoring in Psychology but once there he didn’t know how to become a FBI agent, until he went to a different university that helped him find a niche on following the right path. As
After completing the Focus 2 program I was offered the following summaries. I have a very strong self-assessment, likely because of my age and experience in the work force to date. My career exploration assessment scored in the middle which I think reflects that fact that I have worked in the same industry, doing the same job for the last twenty five years. I have not spent much time investigating new career paths up until last year. Lastly my career planning satisfaction score also come back in the middle indicating that I may be experiencing some problems with my career planning. I think this indication may have been a false reading. My academic strengths are mostly centered in the sciences. Business, engineering, and technology were all strongly mentioned. Areas that are not my strongest include traditional arts, performing arts, and languages/literature, although I excel in my native tongue. I have very little interest in most traditional arts, so this result is not very surprising.
I suggest a statute that would result in criminal justice reform. A future statute that would reside on the federal level would be a reform to plea bargaining in criminal justice institutions. I believe that there is issues on both sides of the spectrum in relation to plea bargaining. For instance, there are many cases of individuals committing murder and receiving a plea bargain that is unjust. When there is objective proof that an individual committed a murder, I claim that a lower charge is malicious towards the victim and cohorts.
I may pursuit a career working in recovery or something with the police force. I was informed that having Behavioral Health as my major I am able to combine my profession. If I decide that I would like to work in the criminal justice field along with another profession that goes hand in hand, then I can. It is nice to know that I am not subjected to stay with one profession. I am able to expand to different fields and build up my experiences and career. It may be a lot of work but at the end it is worth all the effort and dedication. My mind is not made up yet, hopefully by the time graduation is here I’ll have my mind made
There are many different aspects of criminal justice policy. One in particular is the different theories of crime and how they affect the criminal justice system. The Classical School of criminology is a theory about evolving from a capital punishment type of view to more humane ways of punishing people. Positivist criminology is maintaining the control of human behavior and criminal behavior. They did this through three different categories of Biological studies, which are five methodologies of crime that were mainly focused on biological theories, Psychological theories, which contains four separate theories, and the Sociological theories, which also includes four different methods of explaining why crime exists. The last theory is about Critical criminology. Their goal was to transform society in a way that would liberate and empower subordinate groups of individuals.
Like many other college freshmen, I’m not completely sure about what would be a good fit for my future career. In order to improve my understanding of myself and what I crave from life, I took the TypeFocus assessment. Going into this assessment, I wanted to uncover what kind of careers would mesh well with my personality, interests, and values so that I could adjust my major accordingly while I still have the opportunity. I am currently planning on pursuing a career in the social sciences and, although I’m fairly confident in this decision, I am unsure about whether I would like to research, conduct experiments, counsel others, etc. In this report I will explain the steps I took to understand more about myself, the
A significant crime that America still stands on is the criminal justice system. The Institution is racial based, where black people are unjustly, and directly targeted and punished in a much more aggressive way than whites. The facts greatly adhered that the American Justice system shows many counts of clear racism. Police Officers stop blacks at alarming rates, much more than whites. When you get arrested, 80% of the people in the criminal justice system, facing a crime, are appointed a public defender. You could stop in any urban courtroom and make a clear distinction of who is provided a public attorney at a faster rate by the colour of the people who are waiting. In 2004, the American public defender system was reviewed by the American
...y you have enthusiasm for and do well in,” is advice often given by employers. Lynn Cheney, former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, agrees: “Students who follow their hearts in choosing majors will most likely end up laboring at what they love. They’re the ones who will put in the long hours and intense effort that achievement requires. And they’re the ones who will find the sense of purpose that underlies most human happiness.”
I was interested and loved the sciences, but I was indecisive in picking a specific area. Unsure of what academic path to pursue, I ended up with three different majors my first three years as I tied a variety of science courses. However, this changed junior year, when I was recommended to apply for the undergraduate pharmacology program by my advisor. I tried to find as much information about this program before I set myself down this path. What I saw was the opportunity for me to do research and surround myself in a research environment. It was something that I knew I wanted to explore and it was a fit with the type of person I am. I knew initially that if I were to choose this major, I would have to dedicate an extra year to my undergraduate career. This was not a problem to me since the benefits of the program greatly outweighed the
Under the crime and criminology category, there is a profession named criminologist. A criminologist is trained to focus on studying the crime and also the cause, effects and impact on society of the crime (How to become a criminologist, 2015). People are often identifying this with the popular crime series, CSI or Criminal Minds, where the actors and actresses are trying to understand the mind of a criminal and the impact of the crime commit. Criminologists’ core responsibility is to analyze all characteristics of a particular crime and coming out with ways to prevent crime and decreasing the tendency of backsliding (Roufa, 2015). They will get to know what drives the criminal into committing the particular crime and what is the effect for
As police officer you can stop someone and pat them down this is called a stop and frisk or a terry stop. But you can’t just stop and frisk anyone you want, you have to have reasonable suspicion of involvement in criminal activity. The reason this comes up as a police issue is for two reasons:
