Criminal Justice Career Essay

1. My decision to enroll in this class is because I have a major interest in the criminal justice field. This interest is greatly influenced by my daughter. I wanted to become a good role model for her. Another reason would be my three older brothers and my mom and dad. My younger brother is in the National Guard. Before I started CCC I was planning on enrolling in the army with my interest in the Military Police. I decided to enroll in school because I could not bare leaving my daughter behind for so long. My interest in the criminal justice profession began with the interest of a police officer. I have always expressed interest in this job. I then, began learning about the different positions that was in the career field. I am unsure now, about what career I will be pursuing as so many of the careers offer good opportunities. My educational goals would be to finish my last year of school and begin in a position

in the criminal justice area where I can eventually move up. I do express a major interest in the law enforcement area.

2. My strengths in this area is my ability to understand and not be quick to judge a person. When a person comes to me with a problem I have that ability to listen and hear the person out. I try to help them find reasons what and why they are experiencing a problem and try to help the person find a solution. I like to study people including how they act, feel, and react.

One of my main obstacles would be when I am around new people I tend to get very shy. I try to stay out of everyone's way and stick to my own task. My strategy for accomplishing this would be to engage in more conversations with others. I have already began accomplishing this by setting up interviews for my previous class with Connie Hultine who is the supervisor of the probation department in Grand Island and Sargent Rojewski who is one of the hiring officers at Hall County Correction department. Those two interviews with professionals I have not met before had me get out of my comfort zone. This lead me to become more confident in myself.

4. I hope to learn how to become a better person in general and how to succeed in the criminal justice field using the information I obtained from this class.

5. My worries and concerns would be if I will be effective in all my classes. My daughter and family do occupy my time with appointments and school, but I feel that if I were to manage my time more effectively and set myself goals I would be able to

succeed.
