Growing up in a country, where cricket is passion, obviously meant that most of children in India grew up with icon figures of cricketers as role models be it Sunil Gavaskar, who broke the record of Sir Don Bradman of scoring maximum centuries in test cricket, or Kapil Dev under whose captaincy India won the first world cup way back in year 1983 beating fancied and favorites West Indies with the best pace attack of Malcolm Marshall, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts and Joel Garner, the best opening pair of Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes, the best middle order consisting of Vice Captain Sir Vivian Richards and Captain Clive Lloyd with Larry Gomes, Gus Logie, and Jeff Duzon. Against all odds India successfully defended the modest total of 183 runs and defeated favorites and two times world champions West Indies. Under Sunil Gavaskar’s Captaincy India won Benson and Hedges World Series defeating Pakistan in the final.
India lost the 1987 world cup semifinal to England, as Greham Gooch applied sweep shot to good effect against Indian spinners. The arrival of Saurav Ganguly as India’s captain brought more vigor and competitiveness in Indian Cricket. India lost the 2003 World Cup Final to favorites Australia under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting and with star players like Adam Gilchrist, Hayden, Martyn, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. Then last came 2011 World Cup where India under captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is acclaimed as the best ever captain in Indian Cricketing History defeated reigning world champions Australia in quarter finals at Ahmedabad, Pakistan in Semi-finals at Mohali and Sri Lanka in final at Mumbai. The winning shot a huge six hit by Captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni forever erased the unpleasant memory of losing the Sharjah cup final where on last ball Pakistan needed four runs for victory, Chetan Sharma bowled a full toss to Javed Miadad which Miadad hit for a Six and India lost the match. Cricket has sporting rivalries like Ashes between Australia and England and in Sub-continent the famous rivalry is India vs. Pakistan, with India having a record of not losing a single world cup match to Pakistan till date.
Our generation is lucky that though we were not born in era of Sir Don Bradman but then we were indeed blessed to watch the genius of the great Sir Sachin R. Tendulkar. The presence of Sachin Tendulkar always gave assurance to cricket fans in India and worldwide that India is capable of chasing down any target or setting match winning target.
Through out the 1950s the Yankees experienced highs and lows but team remained arguably the ball club in all of Major League Baseball. In the 50s the team showed off tough unwavering determination to win even when some of their best players were missing from the line up. Although The Yankees didn’t win a World Series each year of this decade it is still hard to argue that they didn’t maintain their reign over professional baseball. At the start of the Yankees organization the team established one of the most storied and legendary histories ever in baseball and has built on it and will continue building on it for many days to come.
Sports fans look up to athletes and inspire to resemble their favorite athlete. Peyton Manning inspired fans, by revolutionizing the quarterback position. Likewise, Tim Duncan entertained fans, by playing at a consistent level of greatness night in and night out. All of these amazing Hall of Fame players´ only possess a few of Tom Brady's traits that made him the greatest football player of all time. Cricket in some ways was a unifying force for the various classes in India as well as the relationship between Great Britain and India. As seen in Document 2, an Indian cricketer was invited to “...join the Sussex team,” that was a team from European country. This shows some equality between n...
1910 to 1920 was the one of the greatest decades for Major League Baseball. Many amazing events occurred during this decade; although, some devastating and extremely sad events also occurred. Half of these years were taken up by war, even many Hall of Fame players served. This decade still ended up being a great one for Major League Baseball. From Hall of Fame greats to Negro League pitchers, this decade produced greats. The 1910’s also set up the 1920’s for amazing players too.

...against the world and succeeded. They show that he could come up with new ways of coaching, new ways of playing, and new ways of thinking and still be able to set world records that still stand today.
In "Darwin's Dangerous Idea", Dennett describes the QWERTY phenomena in biological and cultural evolution as an example of how "mere historical happenstance... restrict[s] our options" (6:131). Economists add a value judgment to this description, some using QWERTY as an example of market failure and inefficiency. However, the evolution of QWERTY, like cricket, follows rules that are enigmatic at first glance. Economists do not pursue the analogy with evolution and, as a result, do not detect the fundamental change in the system of production that rewrote the rules of efficiency. A historical retracing disentangles the reasons for QWERTY's continued dominance of keyboard systems. The integration of parts in the system of production demanded compatibility: the efficiency of the whole above the efficiency of the individual.
Captains of sports teams are given the stereotype that they are the most athletic player on the team, scoring the most goals and handling the ball best. In truth, captains have a lot of work they have to do that doesn’t even involve playing the sport. Captains are the most looked at player of the game; other players, younger kids and coaches look to them to set examples. They have to set examples in every aspect of the game; athleticism might be part of their job but it is not limited to it. The captain of any sports team must set the leadership standard for commitment, confidence, intelligence, and attitude.
Chris McCandless was had an adventurous, young spirt that drove him into the wild. His kindred soul was a leading force into a journey designed to find himself. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless left society behind, trading a familiar scenery for the unknown. Mahatma Gandhi was a peaceful creature by habit, whose drive in life was to teach others how to live in peace. He wanted the world to learn to love, trying to have a positive impact on all who walked through his life. In many ways, Chris McCandless and Mahatma Gandhi are like, and in the same amount of ways are different.
Many people may not know that baseball and cricket both originated in England. Cricket was always the favorite sport out of the two up until the
I believe that I have shown the historical, biographical, cultural, political, context behind this photograph of Gandhi at his spinning wheel taken by Margaret Bourke - White. I have taken time and researched in detail at the political and cultural impact of the symbolism shown in the photograph, looking at new articles, websites and books. This photograph is a rare image of India’s leader and showed what he stood for whilst he was still alive. I like this photograph because it captures Gandhi helping out his country in times when they needed help the most. He didn’t let the British Government bully him; he stood up for what he believed in and made life a lot better for Indians. He was a very inspirational man and to this day he has made a massive impact to people’s lives, which have made India forever great full.
...r cricket. This is however corporately done by use of local advertisement companies that incorporates the Adidas products into the victory that the team earns. It has no specified support for countries but supports teams that bring it glory. A victory for an individual or a team also generates into it becoming the winner in terms of what it can produce next (Ritson, 2008).
I thoroughly enjoyed my student life by organizing social activities and participating in various sports events. Throughout my dental school, I won the "Sportsman Award" and captained my team to national level medical/dental college competitions. The game of cricket taught me how to analyze, w...
Striking is a fundamental skill that most kids reach proficiency in by the age of 7 or 8. However the skill of striking a baseball that is coming in at 85 miles per hour or faster is something that arguably will not ever be mastered. In the major leagues hitting over .300 is a good season, but in school or most things in life a 30 percent is failing. Bad. So how does one teach an athlete how to strike a ball when a great job is failing 70 percent of the time. The decision making needs to be made quick, to be exact the person needs to react in around four tenths of a second (Carlson 2013).If a coach can understand simple concepts such as automatic processing, understanding what movements are needed, knowing what level their athletes are at and how to narrow their attention. Also knowing what cues the athletes need to focus on and which cues they can tune out along with helping each athlete find their own Individual Zone of Optimum Functioning (IZOF) are all very important steps to becoming a better hitter.
