Thunderstruck It was the first hot and humid day of July this month, so my friends Craig Verflixt, Kenny McCarthy, and myself decided that it was a great day to take a bike ride on the Adirondack Mountain path. Although I like to go bike riding, I haven’t had the time to go lately, and had no one to go with. Since it was the beginning of summer, school had ended, and I could go ride with my two best friends. We all lived in upstate New York outside of Buffalo. Kenny and Craig lived a few blocks away from me. I remembered my mom telling us to bring our GPS and all have our cell phones in case of an emergency. Now, I am glad we did bring our devices. At the mountain path The wind punched me in the gut as though I had just offended it. …show more content…
At the present time, a few drops of rain hit my face but I thought nothing of it at the moment. “This is great!” Craig replied as he peddled by my side. Craig is the goofy kid that can get you annoyed but at the same time can cheer you up, and he makes a great friend. In contrast, my other friend Kenny is a polar opposite. He is always serious, brave, and hopeful, and the two were my best friends for exactly those …show more content…
Luckily, we were staying in a camping store. We set up a camping stove from a propane tank and cooked baked beans for dinner. The manager let us raid the snack aisle, and we grabbed pork rinds, chocolate and trail mix for dessert. It was starting to be a pretty cool night! It was really pleasant to be warm and dry after being drenched in the rain. We could hear the wind howl outside but knew we were safe inside the store. “I would drive you all home, but it’s too dangerous out there”, the manager said looking out the window, interrupting the silence. “That’s ok. It is pretty rough out there, and we’re having a pretty good time in here”, I replied. By then we learned his name was Franklin Rickard and we started to become good friends that night. He told us stories of his camping and hiking expeditions around the US, and told us that he hiked the Adirondack trail with his wife some 15 years ago. Not to mention, it took them 5 months and two pairs of hiking boots each. The next morning, the connection was back on as presumed, and we called our parents. Of course they were worried sick about us and immediately came to pick us up. In a matter of minutes, they were there to pick us up and to bring us home. “That goodness you are ok, honey!” My mom exclaimed, “We were so worried about you and your friends. Under those circumstances, I am so glad you are all
There was a hint of worry in my voice as I said “She is okay and has received some medical help.
The weather that day wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. It was gloomy and it would drizzle once in a while. I enjoyed the drive up to LA, even with a little rain. It took us about an hour and 50mins. We left around 1:00 pm and arrived around 2:50pm. The good thing about the drive was that we didn’t get lost. The only bad part was the traffic. We both expected to get traffic but not as bad.
Over the next few days, we took it easy. I went back to work. My mom was getting worse as each day went on with a few good days in between, of course. We ended up moving my niece Lexi’s birthday up a few days because we wanted to make sure my mom would be there for it. She, my mom, couldn’t talk as well anymore, but she made the effort to sing for her granddaughter. The day before my niece’s actual birthday, my mom passed away. Her wish had come true, too. She had wanted my dad to be the only one in the room when she went.
Almost all great adventurers have the sense to tell someone their whereabouts before going on an excursion. The most experienced hikers may know the land by the back of their hand, but a disaster can strike unexpectedly at any moment. Several incidents have happened where people have gotten lost in the wilderness without telling others of their location plans. Many people have gotten lost, some may not have ever been found, all due to not alerting someone of their plans beforehand. Aron Ralston, on obviously experienced mountaineer, was one day biking in the Blue John Canyon, according to the article “Miraculous Lost and Found” by Katherine Leonard.
The previous week they had performed the spell successfully. After contacting Mordred, Merlin and Morgana had arranged to meet him and Aglain, the leader of the druid camp, in the woods near a small waterfall, halfway between Camelot and the grave of Gorlois. Morgana always went on her annual pilgrimage to her father's tomb at this time of the year, at the end of spring.
“Men, for many of you, today is your first day training as a Knight of Camelot,” said Prince Arthur to the group standing before him. “And be grateful you’re not stuck in a torrential downpour as I was on my first day of training here on this very field. The sun is shining and I plan to work you hard.”
There were once three friends Luke, Adam, and Eli. They were running for their lives from alien soldiers. They had only some food, water and a knife each. “Runnnnn they're gaining on us!” yelled Luke who was at the front. After they lost them they stopped to rest. They were in the forest of pyrex. They knew they had to get to hi valley for it was the only safe place in all the world. They were close to the place thought they just had to avoid many soldiers and bullets and then it would be a straight shot to the valley. Eli pointed to a map and said “It might be a few day stretch from here.” “But” interrupted Adam “There are soldiers everywhere that will shoot you on the spot,” luke said “We should go this way through the Spirit forest because, there is no way any soldier would go through it.” even though the voyage would take longer it was the safest way.
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
“It’s fine. I can’t be here very much longer anyway. I gotta get outta here.” George said.
When Mom picked me up, the silence was so tense that you can cut it with a knife. We never said anything throughout the entire ride. When we arrived at the hospital, we went to Emily's room. Emily was awake and Grandpa was talking to her.
I smiled at her and got up in and saw my entire friends surrounded by bed. They all got me get well cards and gifts. I said thank you. Then our parents came in and hugged us and talked to us. The doctor said that Audrey and I both needed two more days of healing. I asked the doctor if Landon was found but they didn’t find him. Then before I slept that night I thought that I was a little bit happy on that “forest trip” because I got a new friend and learned how to believe and not give up.
Relief washed over my face. My friend Molly asked “ Are you okay?’’ I said “ Yeah, I’m fine’’
I argued with them, we didn’t have cable, and my 6 year old brain couldn’t understand what else he would be doing. He was at work and he said he’d be back, he had promised and we never broke our promises. By then Tashwana’s parents had been brought over to get her, and they kept saying it was going to be okay and it would all be over soon, but I didn’t understand, why they were taking me, why couldn’t I just stay home and wait for my
The King's Roar In an enormous castle of the great kingdom of Ecli, a well dressed man with scarlet hair runs vigorously through the dusky halls. Through the halls he went, and to a huge dark library. The doors closed behind him immediately as he came in with a loud noise like dragon stomps. He summons a sword in his hand and loudly shouts, “Shall we talk in face to face?”
Unfortunately, it was a dark and cold rainy day which made it difficult with the rain soaking our clothes and all of our equipment. But aside from that, the rain didn’t seem to bother me or anyone else for that matter. Instead we had a slight appreciation for the rain, as if it was mimicking the melancholy feeling that we felt. It always seemed as if our camping trip couldn’t come soon enough, and then when it finally did arrive it was as if it was gone too soon. As the rain started to pour down we loaded everything in the car as fast as we could and we gathered ourselves inside. We watched out the back window as we drove away from the campground, seeing it dissipate in the distance. On our ride home we all felt a little nostalgic and talked about favorite memories of the trip and what we’d do next year. The drive was about 3 hours away from our house and somewhere along the way I fell asleep on Alicia’s shoulder while listening to Taylor Swift. I remember feeling as if I was still drifting in the soft waves of the water, and the thought of that relaxed me into a peaceful sleep. When I finally arrived at home I rushed into the living room where my parents were waiting on the couch to hear all about the awesome experiences I had on my trip. After that I went into my room to call Alicia, and we stayed on the phone with each other while we marked our calendars together to begin the countdown for our camping trip next
