I burst through the front door of the quiet country home, shotgun in hand as a monster of a storm let loose with a waterfall effect outside. The house itself looked abandoned, all the lights were out, and a layer of grimy dust covered everything. A flash of green lightning, immediately followed by a roar of thunder so loud that it shook the windows told me that this was no natural storm, and the fact that it was originating directly above this house told me I was in the right place. From below the floor I could hear a man’s voice shouting. Audible even over the peeling thunder. The question was how could I get downstairs before whatever the guy was summoning arrived? Pounding through the house I began throwing open doors, passing a bedroom, …show more content…
The scent of sulfur was replaced by the smell of dry decay and fresh blood. Then a keening wail shot pain through my skull as something burst through the portals mouth, wreathed in an unnatural darkness made worse by the fading rune lights. Gritting my teeth against the sound that threatened to split my eardrums, I pumped a fresh round into the chamber of the shotgun and fired at the nearly invisible creature. The wailing stopped as the unseen monster took the hit, and for a moment I hoped that it was going to be that easy for once. Then the laughter started, if it could be called laughter, more like a hacking cough filled with mirth. That was seldom a good sign. “Hello cursed one, still refusing the masters will I see.” Said a smooth refined voice, horribly in contrast with everything I had heard from the thing so far. The creature took a step forward, shedding the darkness like a cloak, leaving me staring at a humanoid creature with overly large ears, pointed teeth that stuck out of a wrinkled snout, and a fur covered body with leathery skin under its arms. I knew a vampire when I saw one. Summoned from whatever dimension it called home. I was going to have a long night ahead of me to put this sort of monster out of
Tarshis communicates this as a terrifying storm. She supports this idea on page 7 where it states a giant boiling thunderstorm cloud was headed their way. Quickly the kids and grandma had went in the house and had huddled together. The storm was so thick that not even car lights could be seen.
up the steps and entered the house. A combination of horror and amazement swept over
I peered around through the rain, desperately searching for some shelter, I was drowning out here. The trouble was, I wasn’t in the best part of town, and in fact it was more than a little dodgy. I know this is my home turf but even I had to be careful. At least I seemed to be the only one out here on such an awful night. The rain was so powerfully loud I couldn’t hear should anyone try and creep up on me. I also couldn’t see very far with the rain so heavy and of course there were no street lights, they’d been broken long ago. The one place I knew I could safely enter was the church, so I dashed.
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
It burned down your cheeks, bubbling and you could feel the boils on the flesh popping, a mixture of puss and blood. Stop. Stop crying, you kept telling yourself but it was of no use. You were a small insignificant bug to them and that’s what you continued to tell yourself. The two headed creature turned back to the stove and you took it as an opportunity to escape. Your insides were burning from the acid and when you opened the door to your room, fifty or so small, colorful demons seem to rule the realm; a bunch were using your bed as a trampoline, others messing with your radio, they flew around the room cackling at each other, you saw another pee on your math book as it eyed you suspiciously.
The monster bit and slashed at him, lapping at his skin. He could feel the acrid breath of the fire falling into his lungs, sinking in and staining them black with
I slowly took its hand as it leads me further into the forest as crushed leaves blended with the dirt that sticks to the ground, awkward but dreary steps shattered the silence of the darkness. The sound of heart-wrenching screams and the stench of blood caught my attention. “What is that noise and that foul smell, “ I asked the creature with fear and disgust laced in my voice, the creature ignored me which caused me to grow
“I haven’t seen you in so long, my dear.” He told me with perfect suavity, ignoring the glimmer of shiny metal protruding from my jacket sleeve. I kept a knife there always, never believing in my ‘supernatural vampire abilities’, though there were few. Swiftness, immortality, the upside of a nocturnal life. A creature of the night, an abomination to Christianity, and most other religions. My blade dipped into my skin, scraping it slightly and sending a shiver of euphoria, the kind Jexi didn’t miss. He rarely missed anything. That’s why I was sitting here, next to him, getting a high from a dagger as I was submerged into the murky dangerous waters that was this conversation.
and I doubted it would come back on anytime soon. So I checked my phone to see if we were under any severe threats; the news app said we were under a severe thunderstorm warning lasting many hours, and a tornado watch. I decided to the people at the big house, which was only about 100 feet away from us to see if they’d let us stay throughout the storm, and they replied with “Yes, and hurry!” We rushed to their home, one scary moment happened when we were running, a lightning strike struck near us during the rush, so we ducked and covered our ears. Seconds later we were bombarded by the sound of thunder, which made our ears ring.
Sasuke sat up from sweat dampened covers and dry heaved. Annoying sheets and dark hair stuck to his body and face. After throwing up earlier that night he felt a little better, but clearly even that wasn't helping with sweating, nausea, and the shivers. Sasuke groaned as he turned over to look at the alarm clock that showed a blurry 3:26 am. "Go to bed he said, you'll feel better once you wake up he said.
We sit in there for what seems like an eternity passing time by playing card games, and Ispy. Nothing seems to keep our minds off of what was happening. Just outside our easily fragile shelter was a brutal, powerful, and what felt like a never-ending storm ready to take down anything and everything in its path. Finally, a lifetime later the rain slows down to gentle raindrops like a light shower in the spring. The winds mellow down to a simple breeze, and only now and then we hear the faint echo of thunder.
Before I had time to react the thumping sounds of unforgiving paws rushed closer and closer. The bear, brown and immense, grunted intensely as it was on top of my back. Flipping me back and forth, an unfathomable pain ripped through my body. Trying to get any sense of control I tried to get grip the ground but with the soil being thin and sparse it denied me of any such hope. For a split moment I was able to make eye contact with the monster.
Pointedly, I knew that I only had a couple of minutes before the things were upon me. Quickly and quietly then, I withdrew to the wall in front of me-the only one free of anything-and slowly inched my way around the monsters. Reaching the door, I proceeded to open it as noiselessly as possible. Surprisingly, I made it in. Then, I heard something that made my heart stop: the sound of a recovered
My stomach retched, my throat dry, had I got myself into this mess? A distant thud echoed across the cold, hard floor, ricocheting into my ear. Someone was coming.
