Sarah and Justice live 150 years from now in a world ruled by an oppressive government. Because out of wedlock pregnancies result in poorer economic individuals, they have begun placing chips into individual’s brains that don’t allow women of childbearing age to be within 2 feet of men not approved of by the government. Disclaimer - This story contains disturbing imagery. It fits nicely into the PG13 rating given for the class but probably isn’t much less than that. So that she would be allowed the freedom of flight, Sarah gave up her right to go where she wished. She went to the hospital so that she could get cybernetic implants in her back, stronger muscles in her core, and the stubs that would eventually allow her to grow wings and …show more content…
“That’s a pretty hard drink for this early in the day.” And Sarah was left breathless, watching the man as he ordered an almond passion, smiled at her, and sat down, in the corner where she had planned on sitting. A fellow patron touches her shoulder to request that she move from the counter. Sarah cries out in pain and collapses on the floor, spilling the drink upon herself. She twists her stubs as she falls and cries out again. Now the man is over, cleaning up for her while staying far enough way and introducing himself all at once. And now Justice is offering to buy her another drink and she’s accepting his offer. He pulls a chair out for her, pushes his own in, but not so close as to hurt her, and they talk. They both like cats. Neither is much into Pan-European food. He takes great joy in attempting to convince her of the merits of the new holo-film. After neither can pretend to be nursing their drinks any longer, he invites her to a drone race the next week. She accepts before he is finished talking. By the end of the race, they are dating. Dinner passes the next week and she thinks she is in love. They’re at a synth concert and she’s planning …show more content…
And he leans over to kiss her. Now she’s on the ground, pain coursing through her head. He apologizes and she curses simultaneously. “Storms. I want this so bad.” She loses control of her emotions and begins crying. “I can’t love you without touching you. It’s like loving a computer.” Her words begin become gurgles and burbles. No longer can anyone understand her, but instead watchers feel various levels of sympathy and annoyance. The next time Sarah and Justice meet, the conversation is strained. The time after, the two barely talk. Justice leaves after half an hour. And Sarah goes to the government. A robotic voice greets her outside, asks her for her business, and denies her entrance. She is left outside, shouting at an impersonal voice. “Let me put him on the list,” and “I need to touch him,” and “Please, please, please.” She leaves, not knowing if she has been heard, not knowing if anything has changed. The next time Sarah and Justice meet, Justice gave her a letter. She stuffed it in her pack before looking at it and threw herself upon him. It hurt, but she had touched him and touched him well. Soon, she would not have to go through the

Sarah, initially, reminds Rachel that Matthew is asleep in the next room and suggests that their voices be lowered. However, by the end of her conversation with Rachel, Sarah's voice reaches high volumes as well, as she declares her support for Matthew. Rachel begins the conversation in a low voice as she explains her dream of being chained to the witness chair, which acts as exposition and offers an allusion to the past trial scene. As Rachel explains her disgust with Matthew and the way he used her as a witness, her voice becomes steadily louder, drawing attention to the urgency of her argument. Sarah occasionally offers her opinion on her husband's handling of Rachel's testimony,
...eemed to combine assimilation of American culture with that of her long lasting Jewish traditions. She has turned down and shunned away from countless Jewish traditions, for hatred of her father. As the story ends it seems that her relationship with her father strengthens and in turn her religious traditions also strengthen. The father is yet another way to view her struggle with her Jewish teachings and religious traditions. Sarah's love for her father strengthens, then so does her will to accept her Jewish upbringing. Sarah is now an American women who also carries the burden and responsibility of her Jewish past. Throughout all her life she had struggled to accomplish all her goals, and in doing so she had ruined her most important goal of fatherly acceptance. As she is proud of completing all her dreams, she has also accomplished a peace of mind with her Father.
Sarah and her mother are sought out by the French Police after an order goes out to arrest all French Jews. When Sarah’s little brother starts to feel the pressures of social injustice, he turns to his sister for guidance. Michel did not want to go with the French Police, so he asks Sarah to help him hide in their secret cupboard. Sarah does this because she loves Michel and does not want him to be discriminated against. Sarah, her mother, and her father get arrested for being Jewish and are taken to a concentration camp just outside their hometown. Sarah thinks Michel, her beloved brother, will be safe. She says, “Yes, he’d be safe there. She was sure of it. The girl murmured his name and laid her palm flat on the wooden panel. I’ll come back for you later. I promise” (Rosnay 9). During this time of inequality, where the French were removing Sarah and her mother just because they were Jewish, Sarah’s brother asked her for help. Sarah promised her brother she would be back for him and helped him escape his impending arrest. Sarah’s brother believed her because he looks up to her and loves her. As the story continues, when Sarah falls ill and is in pain, she also turns to her father for comfort, “at one point she had been sick, bringing up bile, moaning in pain. She had felt her father’s hand upon her, comforting her” (Rosnay 55).
Sarah was the sixth child. Even at a young age she showed great independence and focused many of her efforts on justice. She was very intellectual and because of this, her father paid particular attention to her over the other children. He is said to have frequently declared “if she had been of the other sex she would have made the greatest jurist in the land” (Birney, 1970, p 8). Sarah was also very personable, empathetic and car...

Suddenly, Sara's light step halted and she turned to face me. From her hazel eyes blazed an intensity of exhilaration and courage, which mingled with pride and concern as she surveyed my resolute expression. I watched longingly as Sara unfastened the Nalgene bottle from her side; one sip of water sloshed tantalizingly at the bottom of the bottle, heightening my senses into acute desire. Sweat poured down from my face, biting at my eyes, and after I dabbed at them with my shirt, I saw Sara was presenting the water bottle to me. Both anticipating and squelching my refusing, Sara said simply, "Drink, Stacy. Yo...

Diana turned around suddenly at the new voice in the batcave, amazed that someone had managed to sneak up on her. A young man, fully suited as Robin, stood nearby and hesitantly offered information. She smiled shyly, trying to play a part, as Batman introduced her as an alli. She'd heard Cassie talk about Robin and a few of the other Titans, but Wonder Woman had always brushed it off as childish musings. There was nothing childish about the man in front of her and she could see why Cassie constantly talked about Batman's protégé.
