It was the first day of sophomore year for many, but for Emma, today marked the beginning of her new identity. As she sat in homeroom, Emma shuddered as she recalled the moment she was told she was not allowed to return to Oakville High School. That was the reason she was sitting in an unfamiliar classroom, surrounded by unknown faces. The school was built with cinder blocks with white tiled floors, and the rooms were decorated with black and white educational posters. That didn’t matter to Emma, because there it was almost guaranteed that she wouldn’t have to face anybody from Oakville again. “How could they blame me for that? A fourteen year old girl who has never done anything horrible in her life, yet they think I would wreck a car!” Emma thought bitterly. …show more content…

Most texts contained the same questions Emma left unanswered when she decided to leave everything behind and change schools. “What happened?!” “How could you do something like that?” Emma was always a quiet girl. She didn’t have too many friends which gave her a lot of time to focus on academics. Nobody would have ever thought of her as someone who would do anything out of the ordinary, but how could she explain to her previous classmates that it was not her who cracked the windshield and keyed the sides of a brand new Volkswagen. Would they believe her when she exclaimed that the cops rolled into the parking lot just as the group of delinquents ran away, and she was the only person near by? “Should I have told them?
