It’s 8:19 pm and I’m lying in my bed in the dark. For some reason it’s cold like winter in my room. I’m under a set of heavy blankets, but the harsh air is penetrating right through my covers. My teeth are jittering like a wind-up toy moving. I closed my eyes and started listening to my surroundings. I can hear the heating furnace across the room snoring or that’s what it sounds like to me. A bus passed by the window making a loud scream. Then I thought to myself, “Those tires or brakes on that bus needs to be desperately drenched in oil.” I can hear music that isn’t in my room, but sounds like it’s blaring from next door with a mix of voices. As I listened closely I figured out the genre of music is rap. “Boy, am I tired of hearing rap music, …show more content…
ugh! Extremely annoyed.” I said under my breath with a pout. I put my hand against the wall, feeling vibrations.
The bass of the music was strong it was shaking my walls and made buzz, and boom sounds like it was trying to break through and get me. It’s around 11:43 pm now the music is still kicking. I hear the lock on the front door, go click click then err the door opens, I heard footsteps, after footsteps, I lost count on how many people were in the living room that just entered, moments later the door claps closed. The door to my room is closed. I’m not sure if they know I’m here or not, but they are talking awfully loud for a late hour. Pop, pop, pop, goes the microwave and the aroma of popcorn creeps under my doorway. The smell made my stomach growl but man did I want popcorn now. My roommate opens the door to our room and everything was illuminated in a quick second. The light burns straight through my eyes as I bring them down to a squint, and small tears started to form. I wasn’t crying the light just hurt and I then said …show more content…
“Hello.” Narration: Get the party started You think beer pong is hard to play, try water pong and you’re not even drunk. I went to a party that wasn’t really a party it was awkward and everyone was divided into categories, like no one wanted to mingle. I’m not much of a party animal, in fact I hardly go to parties I thought I was the shy, awkward one, but that party proved me totally wrong. I went around giving everyone glow sticks and telling them to dance. There’s no shame in making yourself look like a fool at a party, I mean isn’t that normal? I floated across the dance floor it was like being a fairy and hovering.
My huge eyes spotted something to the far left. “I spy with my giant, beautiful eyes… a table!!” I said to myself, I darted in that direction. The table had 15 party cups with water in each one they were in a triangle shape. The water in the cups were illumined with glow sticks. They were so colorful, blue, pink, green, orange, yellow and many more. Next to the cups were two ping pong balls. On the table there was also a layer cover of black light dye of a lot of colors. I approached this boy across the room at the time I didn’t know his name. He wore a casual dress shirt with strips in every direction. He had on some blue jeans and his hair was a dirty blond. His hair was just above his shoulders and his bangs touched his eyebrows lightly. He smelled astonishing whatever that cologne was it sure was a girl grabber. It was breathtaking and I told the boy he smelt divine. Then I asked if he would play water pong with me. He delightfully said, “Yeah, Sure.” We both stood at each end of the table and I was the first player to start the game. I threw the small ping pong ball on to the table, next thing you know bloop, the water splashed on his shirt and some of the dye did too and the ping pong ball landed in the cup. He put the middle cup off to the side away from the other cups then I over threw the other ping pong ball and it went flying off the table under a chair. The boy went to fetch for ball then
he came back and it was his turned. Bloop, bloop, both ping pong balls nailed it in to my cups and my nice long sleeve grey shirt turned into a tie-dye shirt. I place the cups aside and it was his turn again for making both balls in. The rest of the game got heated up it was back and forward my turn, then his turn, then mine again till we both had one last cup. I was scared my heart was pounding louder than the music playing in the background, I tried breathing in and out at a slow consistent. I used a napkin to wipe off the ball but as I resume to play the ball just in my hand grew wet. I must be terribly nerves. I’m sweating like a pig. I raised my arm and through the ball while holding my breath. It bounced on the table and over the boy. I threw the other ball and it went plop just stuck on the black light dyes on the table. “Darn it.” I said in frustration. He totally has this in the bag and just as I expected, he did with one last bloop then a splash of water hit my face and it was game over. I went over to his side of the table had my hand out and said “Good game.” Then he replied, “My name is Matt and thanks.” I thought doing observation was more interesting the Narration, therefore I favor observation more because it was in the moment feelings on what’s going on. Narration you had to do a lot of thinking and go back into the past. They both can convey into a story. Remembering stuff can be tough on people specially if it was long ago but lucky for me it wasn’t that long ago this happened and I like to think I have good mem
In Adam Bradley’s “Rap poetry 101” he shows us how rap is more than just songs being sung, it is poetry; it is something that has an empowering ability to make the familiar unfamiliar. In this chapter Bradley creates a new viewpoint too rap. Bradley shows us how rap and poetry has become a very similar piece of art that should be further appreciated. In the chapter poetry 101 Bradley describes how rap is a form of public art, and how rappers have become our greatest public poets. The importance of rap as poetry is shown throughout Bradley's book as well as the evidence behind the reasons rap is poetry.
A dominant rhetorical strategy presented by the author was his use of formal tone which made his article more official. The author explains his point of view in how banning words in music such as hip-hop and rap would be beneficial using strict arguments. Also, the author detached himself from the article and did not use the first or second point of view. In addition, in paragraph 9 the author wrote “it would” as an alternative of “It’d”, in paragraph 10 “that is” as a replacement for “that’s”, and in paragraph 11 “it is” rather than “it’s”, which concludes that he used full words and did not simplify or use contractions in most of his words. He also spelled out the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People when he wrote
Music can be reflection of our life experience. Each genre of music invokes different emotions and reactions in it's listeners. Rap has become a very popular genre in today's society. Is today “Gangster rap” and rappers exploiting society, introducing drugs and instigating violence? In the mid-1980s Gangster rap came to be portray images of violence, guns, gangs, drugs, and sexism. By the 1990s rap music became a major part of the industry and topped the charts. As people begin to operate different things; different music was engendered and that contributed to the variety of music that we have today. This is one of the many things that makes America different but is astringently under looked by everyone. There are many types of different raps
What is hip hop? What are some of the common stereotypes and generalizations by which hip hop is conceived? Is it a music that is for only one group of people? Does hip hop promote violence and negativity? Many people claim that it is a disgraceful, mea
Music and what lyrics are placed in songs has had a lot of influence over my emotions not only when I listen to the song but when I think about the event that goes with that song. In this day and age music and media have more power to manipulate young minds than it did only a generation ago. The songs that people say are deep and meaningful are usually those that are easy to connect with. The six songs you have listened to are songs most people do not understand until they analyze the meanings of them. My own mother in fact does not like the music I listen to just because of the language and because she tends to see things as they are instead of the feelings and motivations poured into something.
The influence of Hip-Hop has never been as great as it is in this day and age. Often dismissed by a majority of America as simply a fad, hip hop has become a global phenomenon and has arguably been the most popular form of music for the past three decades. Hip-Hop has influenced art, language, fashion, culture, and sports. This music has been used to teach elementary level children, it has been taught in undergraduate universities and serves as a bridge for hundreds of philanthropies. The influence of Hip-Hop has also been felt in films. These films range from fictional works, documentaries, and autobiographies. A film known as, Something from Nothing by famous rapper Ice T sheds light on elements within Hip-Hop that have enabled the genre to reach millions of people.
Have you ever wondered what was making that horrible racket coming from a teen’s car. The odds are that it would be some type of rap song, yet the beat was too loud for you to hear the lyrics. Based off what the mass knows about rap music, you were lucky to not hear the lyrics right, wrong. Rap lyrics have many senses of great poetry and life lessons that should be heard. At least some of rap songs relate to struggles, deaths they have suffered, or even respect of women that many do not believe that rappers would ever do. Rap music is becoming increasingly meaningful for not only adults but for older youth as well to comprehend about respect and an improved understanding of life with struggles and oppressions.
For any avid consumer of hip-hop music, the timeless question of how to judge rapping skills is often brought up. Just as sports fans argue over who are the best players, rap fans argue over who is the best rapper. Instead of comparing touchdowns or homeruns, songs and verses are compared. The two major ways of judging someone's rapping ability are the free style rap and the written rap. Although mainstream, or written, rap does not lend much airtime to true free styling, mainstream rappers are finding a way to combine free styling with written rap.
There is one thing that is vital to every musician and that is songwriting. Whether they right the songs or not they must have something original to sing and play before they can even try to be a success. Songwriting is a craft that almost anyone who really enjoys music has tried his or her hand at. Songs have the power to inspire, unite, and comfort a person unlike any other form of media. Record companies are always on the lookout for the next number one single and while some songs are completely unique and original most of the biggest singles in the past history have all had things in common that made them so popular. The really good memorable songs of the past have all generally had a least some of the following characteristics. One of the main ones is that it is immediately remembered or catchy. A hook generally achieves this, which is a memorable portion of the song that is repeated several times throughout the song. Another characteristic is that it quickly appeals to the listener and strikes a chord inside them. Whether it is a dance groove the listener likes or the emotional content of the lyrics they will remember the song if there is one thing that just hit them deep inside. One final point is that the song has to be really tightly worked. All the lyrics and music should be interwoven together as if they were always together waiting to be listened to.
I’ll never forget the Christmas that I received my first MP3 player. It was a gift from my Grandmother, and she had already downloaded some of my favorite music onto it. The MP3 player had around fifty classic rock songs, and it was the start of my ever-growing music library. My father always listened to classic rock, and I learned to love it from a young age. I can still remember driving around in his Ford Bronco blasting AC/DC and Metallica like it was just yesterday. That type of music made me feel like a hardcore kid that could do anything he wanted. Classic rock was the beginning of my love for music, and still has a special place in my heart to this day. I downloaded more and more rock onto my first MP3 player until I ran out of memory and needed another. Over time I branched out to new genres of music, and found myself really liking the way some of the rap music made me feel. I did not always agree with the material that was being sung, but it made me feel a certain way that nothing else could compare to. Nowadays I love the beat and rhythm of
Rap music is on its way to becoming one of the most popular forms of music on the market today. Although rap has only been popular for the last 15 years, it can be traced back to the days of slavery and even further to the tribes of Africa. Rap is used now as it was used for the past few centuries, as a form of communication. This music has been a way for the young African-American's to speak out about their lives and the struggles they go through. Like rock-n-roll and other forms of music that achieve national attention, rap is being blamed for corrupting our youth. There is a new type of rap music out called "Gangster Rap". This form of rap music is not the same and should not be compared with rap durived from the hip hop era. There has been many attempts by people in the rap business to bring positive attention to their music. They are spending a lot of time promoting the "Stop the violance" campain and others that promote education and drug awareness.
For my first piece of original writing I intend to create a piece primarily written for entertainment however, I also want to portray an interest into historical and political persuasions. I aim to write this piece for an audience of teenagers to young adult who are aged from around fifteen to twenty-five and are male, I also wish to identify with those interested in political thrillers within this age range. The genre of which shall be a short fiction story consisting chiefly of narrative and written in the third person. I picture this piece as being one of a collection of short stories concerned with the political-thriller fiction sub-genre. Despite being a fiction text I aim to tie in real world non-fiction.
My bedroom was all the way up in the attic on the second story of our house, well so was everyone else's. My bedroom had gorgeous baby pink walls and a humongous queen size bed with beautiful white sheets and pillows, my window had like a built-in bench. While I was in my room, it was about 9:30 p.m. I was reading my favorite horror book, ''Stephan King's IT''. While I was reading I kept hearing stuff downstairs but I just brushed it off. The next day me and my dad were outside playing in the muddy creek water. While, my dad was inside grabbing lunch I heard a horrifying screech. Being the curious 12-year-old, I am I decided to go and Investigate the horrible screech. As I was walking in the woods, I came across a horribly burned car, the cars rusted fame was all that was left. All of a
I awake to lukewarm water dripping down my forehead from a damp towel. I feel a thick liquid against my back. I scan the area, Unfamiliar. I find myself lying in a cot in a filthy room. The sight room itself was depressing, not that it was in extremely bad conditions but it was all…brown, the kind of brown that makes you feel depressed. It reeked of fish and motor oil, one of the queerest combinations of scents I have encountered. My ears start to pick up the deep monotones of a man speaking in other room. In my drowsy state I couldn’t make out exactly what he said but I did manage to g...
It was dark that night, I was nervous that this dreadful day was going to get worse. Sunday, October 23, 1998 I wanted to start writing this to tell about the weird things i’m starting to see in this new neighborhood. Gradually I keep seeing pots and pans on the sink suddenly move to the floor. I would ask my sister but she is out with my mom and dad getting the Halloween costumes. When they got home I didn’t tell them what I saw because i've seen Halloween movies and I have to have dissimulation otherwise the ghost will come out and get me first. October 24, 1998 I think I got a little nervous yesterday with the whole ghost thing. 12:32pm, Went to eat lunch with the family today and I go to get my coat. I heard the words furious and madness,
