“They aren’t being arrested. They’re being detained until they sober up. Public intoxication is not allowed around here. I guess you’ll be coming with us too.” The officer slapped a set of cuffs on his outstretched arms and pulled her stranger away. He didn’t speak a word. Nothing to defend himself and that scared her. He was going to get carted away and then no one would be there to protect her. “This is absurd. He wasn’t even in the bar.” She followed the officer. “Let me call—” “Listen lady, these guys are lucky those men aren’t pressing charges. Mr. Burgess is being very generous given the situation. Public drunkenness will earn them a night in the drunk tank. It could be worst.” “But Klein started it. He should be arrested!” She stomped …show more content…
“Did you wrap those big lips around his cock and beg him to come? Did you let him rub his balls all over your face and ask for more? When you look at your body, remember who owns it. There isn’t a spot I didn’t claim.” His words made her sick. Her eyes filled with tears, but she wouldn’t let him see her cry. This man had professed his love for her and in turn she gave him everything. She gave him her heart and her body but it had all been lies. A sick and twisted game where she was the pawn. “Stop. Please, stop this.” He growled in her ear. “I love the way you beg, Bria. So pathetic and weak. It makes me hard. Beg me again.” Klein licked his lips and she couldn’t believe she’d bought into all his lies and bullshit. “Take a hike!” She shoved him away and marched towards one of the cop cars. The one that held her stranger. “You have this all wrong. Please let me come with you and clear it up.” The window in the car was down and the officer had his arm along the edge. “I don’t think we do. See my partner, he talked with the manager and this is for the best. This isn’t the first time we’ve dealt with Mr. Burgess. Have a good night, Miss.” He waved his hand in the air, dismissing
Many texts often exclude and marginalize readers from its content. Writers produce their writings without thinking about the accessibility of their work and what type of readers they might not be reaching due to the lack of a not carefully considered document design. Natasha N. Jones and Stephanie K. Wheeler turn to Universal Design for Documents (UDD) as the best solution to this problem on their article “Document Design and Social Justice”, because it implies the writer has established values and considered inclusiveness when designing their work. Their suggestion also aims to not prioritize one audience over another, evening out their discourse community.
She was just as in love with him as she would hang on to him and grow fonder with every minute spent together. Yet, within a month of my father’s death… Oh god, I don’t even want to think about it. Women are so weak. Even with the shoes worn to my father’s funeral, crying like crazy.. An animal would’ve mourned her mate longer than she had.
"I'm heading out to make an arrest." He replied, his tone carried a slight hint of Incertitude as to the motive of this inquiry.
Throughout history arguments and debate have been used to decide the fate of kingdoms, challenge a ruler’s authority or even decided where homes would be built. Without arguments our world would be bland and nothing like it is today. Being able to form a well built argument and use it properly is known as rhetoric. Ancient Romans and Greeks considered rhetoric to be one of the most important skills for students. Even today rhetoric is considered a great feat for all scholars. Two great men who were able to use rhetoric and excel at using it were Cicero and Machiavelli. They both argued in some of their most famous works that at times injustice was defendable. Cicero did this in his piece called The Defense of Injustice. Machiavelli did this in his work called The Prince. Each of these men was from completely different times in history, yet both were able to use rhetoric to help make people support their argument. Although rhetoric has many rules and many different formats one of the most well know and organized format is known as the Toulmin method. With the two pieces of work and using Toulmin’s method of rhetoric we can evaluate and discover who makes the best argument and why.
“Yes, sir. I live here and make this turn every day. I’m not sure what I did wrong this time,” I responded in my most innocent voice. All three times I had been pulled over prior to that day, I managed to get out of getting a ticket. This police officer, however, was not
, how it drowns to his attention how much he had longed for his sister/future wife to be. Yet he never felt so lonely whilst within her company. Whether it was the fact that the burning desire driven him away. Or just his sheer highly intelligent curiosity got in the way of settling for second best.
Yunior starts to become conscious of “what a f*cking chickensh*t coward [he is] and admits to be “astounded by the depths of [his] mendacity” (14). Yunior realizes that he is selfish and inconsiderate towards the feelings of other women. Yunior is shocked of himself and his tendency to lie. He notices that his lying and cheating ways can really hurt women and he feels bad about himself. After a long time of suffering, the narrator finally gains a true understanding of his wrongdoings. The protagonist is filled with regret with the way he treats women and the fact that his cheating ways gets him nowhere. He confesses the truth that his ex “ did the right thing” by leaving him (14). Yunior starts to register that he is unable to ever get over his ex fiance and he regrets cheating on her. He is saying that he does not deserve her because all that he ever gave her were lies and deceit. She is fortunate enough to be able to escape the pain and hurt that he brought along with him. This creates the central idea that cheaters are the ones who really play themselves. The narrator expected that his cheating manner will be beneficial to him, but it is like a slap to the face. Cheating does not get you anywhere in life and only brings suffering in the end. He now understands that when you do something bad, bad things will come back to you. What goes around comes back around. Achieving a lasting relationship comes
My second weekend here at James Madison University, I was at a party with my friends off campus. Hundreds of kids flocked to the sidewalks near the apartment complexes. All of the upper classmen had given us one vital safety provision, which was to not step onto the street with a cup or beer in hand. I quickly noticed why they had told us this because the streets were swarming with police officers and two feet away on the sidewalks were hundreds of kids drinking right in front of them. During the party, I decided to take a stroll outside for some fresh air and there I saw something that I couldn’t believe. A freshman, perfectly fine, and by this I mean he was not drunk at all, began walking home on the street without a cup or beverage in hand. As soon as his toes touched the pavement two police officers on bikes jumped on him and began interrogating this poor young man. They began questioning him as they looked for any suspicious movements or actions made by the student. After about ten minutes of secret service-like interrogation, they whipped out a breathalyzer test. Clearly, the student failed because he was quickly taken away in hand cuffs in front of hundreds of James Madison students.
She looked at him with surprise, she knew she had to get away. "Well, I'm sorry, but I don't really know anything about cars. I don't think that I would be able to help you."
Philip Dhanens, 18 year old college freshman, went to his fraternity party and was forced to participate in a hazing ritual. He was locked in a room filled with liquor and told he wasn’t to leave until all the alcohol was gone. Philip Dhanens had only been in college for two weeks before binge drinking caused his death (Quigley). Binge drinking in the past has been a major issue with college students, and has continued to become a social norm on college campuses all across the United States. In fact the rate has hovered above fourty percent for two decades and the numbers are still rapidly rising. This is taking over campuses both large and small. Campus police could reduce the rate in binge drinking if they allowed officers to be present at
To explore how knowing his wife slept with another man, when all he was trying to do was protect her, it made him feel just as worthless, it had felt bad enough knowing he couldn’t bring her back from the darkness of her mother’s death, her rape. Therefore, to discover the affair, it did break him and he had to let her know how much it hurt him
If the officer says they free to go, leave immediately and do not answer any more questions.” (Flexmyrights). The officer will then inform the person if they are free or not, if he decides to detain the person they should request a lawyer, and let him do the talking. In general, it is always better to consult a lawyer and let them fight for the Constitutional Rights guaranteed for United States’
There was nothing left to say to him or hear from him. She walked out of the house that night and decided it was better to live on these horrible streets than to live with him in this state. Almost two months later, after living with anyone that would put her up for the night, she came to realize there was something wrong with her. She went to the emergency room. Truth be told, she was terrified that she had contracted some sexually transmitted disease.
From what I heard, he was asking her for the money to pay someone. She kept silent, and he pulled her long hair. She did not cry or ask for help. Her long hair hid her face. I heard the desperation and despair in the young man’s voice but I could not accept his violence.
Injustice happens everywhere to anyone. Regardless of race, sex, gender, or eye color someone will experience some type of injustice. As humans, we should all stick together and help end these injustices one by one. Therefore, when someone sees an injustice, they should speak about it because it will help decrease the likelihood of it recurring. When one injustice ends, then surely another one will end.
