Writing skill is so essential to be owned by students in order to be successful in the academic domain in this era. The importance of the mastery of writing skill is also growing that is in line with a rise in the global interaction and the opportunity to study abroad in recent years. The increasing popularity of standardized test, e.g. TOEFL and IELTS as a prerequisite for getting into the university is a big reason for the interest to study and master writing skill.
There are three kinds of writing, i.e. academic writing, journalistic writing and creative writing (Hakim, 2016). Creative writing is any writing that is not within daily professional, journalistic, academic and technical forms of writing (Hyland, 2002). Creative writing is a

Creative writing is any writing that is not within everyday professional, journalistic, academic and technical forms of writing (Hyland, 2002). Narrative text is an appropriate material for young EFL learners to be studied and to be mastered since the content of narrative text is easy. Narrative is a macro-genre of text connected with a story for the purpose of entertaining the readers in real stories or imaginary form (Knapp and Watkins, 2005). Narrative text material is a representation of creative writing for junior high school students. The material is taught in ninth …show more content…
For example, Kusumaningrum (2015) in her study merely used Think Talk Write as a single technique to improve the students’ motivation in writing narrative text. The study applied Huinker and Laughin’s theory about Think Talk Write. However, Baroroh (2016) in her study merged Mind Mapping and peer editing to improve students’ writing skills. One of the theory that she used was Buzan’s theory about Mind Mapping technique. I found that Baroroh’s (2006) study was in line with Goodnough & Woods’ (2002) theory that declared the combination of Mind Mapping and another method provides the betterment of
... formulate their argument by first explaining the differences between the genres and acknowledging the opposing arguments. The author does this to answer any general questions the reader may have about such an english class and also provides the benefits. The author’s purpose to writing this piece was to persuade people that the way english classes are taught needs to be changed from covering general english subjects to introduction to different types of writing. The author believes students would benefit more from these classes and prepares them better for future classes and also writing in their professional careers.
Through most of my time in high school, I always found myself writing more of exploratory writing for two simple reasons; it took a shorter amount of time, and relating writing to my personal experiences was something I had no need to look up. Exploratory writing is a time to take advantage to relate your own personal experiences and an attempt to make a connection with a certain reading. The experiences you have will not be exactly the same as you’re classmate and might be very enjoyable to read. Lamott and Hairston both use explanatory and exploratory writing in their essays by explaining the techniques of what good writers do and applying their own personal experiences. By applying both explanatory and exploratory in their essay they are able to provide the reader with new ideas they can adopt to improve their writing skills.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
In 2009 Chimamanda Adichie gave a TED talk about the ‘danger of a single story’. A single story meaning, one thought or one example of a person becoming what we think about all people that fit that description, a stereotype if you will. In today’s America, I believe that we have all felt the wave of stereotypical views at some point or another. Adichie gives many relatable examples throughout her life of how she has been affected by the single story. Her story brings about an issue that all humans, from every inch of the earth, have come to understand on some level. A young child reading only foreign books, a domestic helper that she only perceived as poor. Her college roommates single story about Africans and her own formation of a single
Qualitative and quantitative instruments were used in obtaining data for this instructional problem. The first instrument used was quantitative, the instructor gave students a writing assignment, and when it was graded, it was clear that there was a problem with effective topic and thesis statements, as well as general organization of the paper. To be sure that this wasn’t an isolated problem, the second instrument was developed; a quantitative instrument that surveyed the teachers, asking for information on their students comprehensive writing skills.
Writing a novel is a illusory tale style. It illuminates truth that delivers compassion in worlds that are completely fictional. No one is born as a writer. Do you believe that we are capable to be writers? It may be impossible as it may look but yes. If you have the enthusiasm for it, strive to make it happen. Writing a novel is easy as writing ABC. Writing a novel is not a very complex thing. It is just like painting, cooking and drawing. It is a skill. Your thought is all that it needs to get it started. The hard part is how you will make it than it really is.
The teachers need to know how background their students are and their cultural environment and before force them to do an exercise, the teacher should help students spending some experience. That’s why it will help students’ writitng more relibale and authentic writing. There are some main strengths and weakness of the item and the marking approaches, indicate main backwash effect. Another concern is that circumanstance related the test should be supplied because it will help tester to define the directions and also influence on the efficacy of the writing test. Finaly, the purpose of the test must be clear and linked to the target of the course syllabus. The results of the scores will reflect student’s knowledge and it is important to give feedback to student to help

All three can be used as cross curriculum collaborative efforts to encourage writing in all subject areas. Narrative, Informational, and Argumentative writing can all be done over a wide range of subject, in a wide range of ways, for a wide range of purposes. All are vitally important to increasing students reading and writing ability and influence their educational accomplishments. There are many ways to integrate narrative writing across the curriculum. In science, students may summarize the results of an experiment, stories about the content being studied such as stories that take place in space, and explain content being studied in story form.
According to Stephen North, writing is divided into five subcategories: cognitive, expressive, collaborative, epistemic, and political. I have never wanted to put my writing under an umbrella term such as these because my writing style tends to shift between different styles depending on what I write. For instance, when I was in high school, I wrote for the school newspaper for two years. Whenever I wrote articles, I would write objectively (unless if I was writing an editorial, in where I would write factually but with a clear sway that would support my argument) and precisely, using as few words as possible to make my points clearly and effectively. I had to also tie in current events to my articles, especially if I was writing for an important
Reading is an action that allows taking in coherent words that are written or printed. Writing is text composed of sensible words. Reading and writing are two essential subjects that are difficult to enhance skills and understand the definition of words. To get better and knowledgeable at reading and writing trying to mark in book and writing candidly can be a start. “How to Mark a Book” gives advice about learning to take notes and highlighting important facts. “Freewriting” describes how writing can be improved when no feedback is given at all. Reading and writing both have different procedures to achieve the wanted aim. The articles provide guidance on why to experiment the methods, ways to practice the styles, and how these strategies help.
There are many people who believe and consider that creativity is affected by culture, the way that ideas, how concepts are introduced, and developed into a reality. In today’s market, creativity is linked to innovation, which is an appreciated and sought after skill to have in todays changing world. I agree with this statement and declaration with four reasons. The first reason is if we did not let people think of ways to be improve items, then we would not be currently in a place in society with the advancement of technology and new ideas that come out everyday from the people of the world. Secondly, the believed notion that “More Energy is equaled to Better Moods”, which is appropriately true about how creativity is affected by culture. Another reason why creativity is affected by culture is allowing the possibilities and opportunities created by creative minds of our culture. The final reason why creativity is affected by culture is one learns persistence and dedication from the journey they take to be unique and creative; while they create and find new answers that they never knew before using creativity to
Since we are born we have imagination and as we grow up this imagination may increase or decrease. Creativity strongly relies in our imagination. Depending on different circumstances people learn to express their creativity openly while other people close themselves and believe they do not have creativity. Creativity is a natural talent that every single human has. Creativity can be used to solve a complex problem in a different manner or just to find innovative ways to have fun. Creativity is thinking out of the box. Even though creativity cannot be taught from scratch there should be a class that is specific for creativity.
Creative Writing is still a fairly new focus in the academic world. Since it found its place as a part of the English major, its importance and validation has been continually debated. Because of the influence of popular culture, today’s students have been strongly discouraged from pursuing studies within English or Creative Writing; what they aren’t being taught is the many benefits it presents.
The ability to write well is not a naturally acquired skill; it is usually learned or culturally transmitted as a set of practices in formal instructional settings or other environments. Writing skills must be practiced and learned through experience. Writing also involves composing, which implies the ability either to tell or retell pieces of information in the form of narratives or description, or to transform information into new texts, as in expository or argumentative writing. Perhaps it is best viewed as a continuum of activities that range from the more mechanical or formal aspects of “writing down” on the one end, to the more complex act of composing on the other end (Omaggio Hadley, 1993). It is undoubtedly the act of
