"RUN!!" I heard a fellow soldier screaming as I looked around. "RUN!" I started to take off but I was too late. I am an American soldier and I just got my leg blown off by a grenade. As I lay here crying, yelling out in pain, I think about why I am even here. The president thought that Saddam Hussein MIGHT have had weapons of mass destruction (WMD), so he sent me here to die. After we searched and found that Hussein did not have any WMDs, what did President Bush decide to do? Send more troops (SIRS).
Many people, including a number of Christian leaders, have questioned whether the war in Iraq is justified (www.AmericanValues.org). They question if it is morally permissible to have used force to remove a tyrannical and aggressive regime from power instead of just disarming it (www.AmericanValues.org). A difficult moral calculus by liberal hawks led to the decision that the opportunity to free the Iraqi people from decades of oppression was worth the risk (Huang 1). Many people would agree that freeing the Iraqi people was a good thing, but they are free now, yet we are still there!
I see that the sun is started to fall over the horizon and all I can do is what because it is impossible for me to move my leg. As I have nothing else to do I start to wonder. I wonder about how my family is doing, about how much pain there is in the world, and about the cost of the war. This war has cost the U.S. over four hundred and ninety billion dollars (www.costofwar.com). ?This same amount of money could have provided 39,240,332 people with health care or 142,451,458 homes with renewable electricity? (www.costofwar.com).

...sh, because they no longer have a government, but whenever the U.S. tries to rebuild their government, the Iraqis always refuse. If we would leave immediately then that would let the Iraqis rebuild their own government the way they want it. Many people believe that the U.S. should create a fund for Iraq in order to help them get back on track. They could use the money to rebuild or reconstruct their country, their government, and anything else that the U.S. helped to destroy (Bennis 6).
I slowly wake up, and it must have been hours later. I looked down and my leg was gone. I could feel a searing pain rush through my body. My leg was bandaged up around the cut, but I could still imagine how it looked. Blood was dripping from the bandages. I could not take it anymore. Right there I shut my eyes, and never again were they opened. My family was traumatized at my death.
Thesis: The war overseas, but there are millions of veterans still fighting the war at home.
On September 11, 2001, our country was hit with enormous devastation, just after eight o’clock a.m. the first of the twin towers was struck by a suicide pilot, the second was struck slightly later. The towers fell just after ten o’clock a.m., devastating the entire country, and ruining the lives of many. A plane also hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and another in rural Pennsylvania causing just as much grief. The U.S. is still in mourning, but standing tall, more Americans showed their American pride in the following months than ever before. In the months to come the only thing that was on the minds of millions was: Should we go to war? War is necessary for the survival of our country. Going to war with Iraq is a fight against terrorism. Many people believed that going to war with Iraq is unjust. Some believe that there are other ways in looking at the situation.
Today is the day before we go over the top. I’m dreading it, dying or
In an attempt to overthrow Hussein and end his cruel reign of terror, the US sent in an armed military force. Since the beginning of the war, there have been over 3334 military fatalities for the US alone. The US has caused as many, if not more, civilian deaths in Iraq than Hussein did, and in the process we have lost many of our soldiers, in addition to the twenty-six thousand wounded. As England and many other countries try to help us with our fruitless quest, they also lose their soldiers. Not only may soldiers be hurt physically, the images they see in Iraq haunt them forever mentally.
Going to War The arrival of winter is well on its way. Colorful leaves had turned to brown and fallen from the branches of the trees. The sky opened to a new brightness with the disappearance of the leaves. As John drove down the country road, he was much more aware of all his surroundings.
Some soldiers have been physicaly destroyed and others mentally destroyed forever by PTSD and will pay for these wars as long as they are alive. The Veterans Administration, in a recent report, stated that 'drug and alcohol abuse is out of contro. Suicide among the troops is an epidemc. About 107,000 vetrerans are homeless on any given night. Mental illness pagues 45% of homeless vets and 70% suffer from some kind of substance abuse' (VA.gov).
Your days consist of walking, running, and shooting, but in these three years I have been thankful enough not experience a whole lot of shooting. I’ve tried to stay out of trouble and keep safe for Sammie and Faith’s sake. That is, until my last day over here. I was supposed to be out of Afghanistan in twenty-four hours, all I had to do is lead one final convoy through a village. Coincidentally it was the same village I had watched Tom Butler die in four years prior. A group of five soldiers and I were guarding the last humvee when we fell far behind the group. Segregated that’s when the insurgents say their opportunity. They threw two grenades at the vehicle and blowing it up. The heat felt from the flames of the wreckage were unbearable. I managed to get the five guys and myself into a small food store before the thirty plus insurgents came out of the surrounding buildings. I put a call in to base giving them the coordinates of where we were. The officer on the phone told me he couldn’t get someone out there for at least five minutes. Five minutes went by when I finally heard the sound of the chopper’s blade in the distance. As soon as they heard the helicopter, the insurgents started to close in on us. No one in my platoon would make it out alive if someone didn’t do something. I saw only one way out for the majority of us, and it didn’t end well for me. I grabbed my pen and paper from my pack and
As he was in sight of the base, an enemy bomb exploded. The noise of the explosion was piercing, the damage was dreadful, the deaths were too many to count, the injuries were ten times more, and John almost died. A day after the explosion search, men were still out looking for soldiers to see if there were any others that made it. At the end of the day when everyone was ready to give up looking for unfound men, someone a few feet from where John was standing saw something in a hole, which was created from bomb. “HEY!!! HEY!! SOMEONE COME OVER HERE!! I THINK I’VE FOUND SOMEONE!!!” a man yelled at the top of his lungs. As it took a few minutes for someone to reach the man through all the rubble, they began pulling fragments from the hole until they saw someone, it was John. The two men began working faster and faster until there was enough room to pull him out. Once he was completely out, the two men picked him up carefully and ran him back to the base as fast as they could where the hospital tent was ready to take in anyone who was found and brought to them. John was one of the men with more serious injuries and he was immediately laid down on the stretcher. Unfortunately the
The only thing I can think about is food. I don’t think I can remember the feeling of having a full stomach, or my thirst quenched. Even the feeling of strength, of movement has left me. There’s no getting those feelings back until the war is over. The only thing that can be truly felt is the burn of the cold, and the fear. The fear is everything, consuming my thoughts, vision, and blurring the days together. It’s almost strong enough to overpower the hunger and thirst. I fear for my family’s safety, their sanity. My mother has started to go mad from the stress of taking care of my two younger sisters and myself. The war has stolen many things from my family; my father, brothers, home, everything. Even the sky is crying for us as it smudges my writing and blurs my vision even more.
The Iraq War had a great impact on American history. “At a… fundamental level, the failure
“What is a hero….” she thought as she looked to the world, she gripped a green, black and blue fabric, tears falling from her black eyes “fight with honor….” she yelled, her back eyes ablaze with a dark yellow flame, she was enraged, noone could stop her now…”why did you give up soldier...WHY DID YOU STOP THE FIGHT!?...we….i...i loved you...why did you have to die…” she fell to her knees, the dark yellow flame disappearing, now replaced with dark yellow tears, her body racked with sobs and hics “please i don’t know what i did...why..w-why...this is all i have of you now…a mere goddamn scarf...I WANT ALL OF YOU BACK PLEASE!” a light wind blew through the battle field, blowing dust around,a bloody massacre, the battle of humans and monsters took the general’s
When I was seventeen I nervously traveled about 350 miles from my sleepy little home town of Freedom, Wyoming to the relatively enormous city of Boise, Idaho to go to the Military Entrance Processing Station. This wasn 't the first time I had been this far from home by myself, but it was the first time I was making adult decisions without my parents involvement. When it came time for me to choose my job in the army the counselors presented me with a long list that I qualified for. I got tired of scrolling and reading so I chose the first job that I actually understood. I returned home and excitedly told my parents that I would be an infantry soldier. My dad 's response to this might be considered a little less than heart warming “You dumb ass. Why didn 't you choose
The abrupt end of decade long dominating regime in three weeks had created a political vacuum, that is evident in shifting coalitions and divisions among religious groups, ethnic groups, regional groups and even classes (Barnett et al. 2003, 25). US did not realize, moreover, the depth of the hostility between Kurds and Arabs, Sunnis and Shiites, and the members of different tribes and local religious groups. Furthermore, to deal with destruction in Iraq new plan was decided by the US. The plan was to pull out all troops and hand over the responsi...
In the United States' history, there have been many wars that have taken place. We live the way we do today because of the many brave men and women that have sacrificed their lives. There is no doubt that this is a huge price. One person's life is big enough! Just imagine losing your father, mother, sister, brother, or any other family member. Just imagine being drafted for a war that is known to be deadly. You know that when you leave you have a slim chance at coming back. These people have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their life for the lives of other people. You can kind of relate this to the bible. God sent Jesus Christ to sacrifice his life so that others could be free and have a chance to live.
OUCH! My leg crippled with pain. I tried to shuffle my way to the window, but it was excruciating. As my senses kicked back in, I felt pains shooting up and down my body. Peering down at my hands I screamed. My hands were covered in cold, congealed blood.
