Creating a Music Video In AS level production our chosen brief was to construct an opening sequence to a film based on the thriller genre that was no longer than 2 minutes long. This already differs to the brief chosen in A level as I chose to produce a music video based on the genre of my choice. A music video differs greatly to a film as I am concentrating on a completely different text within media. Different acknowledgement had to be considered when filming as a video uses different codes and conventions to a film. Part 1 ------ The first stage of planning was to discuss exactly what we, as a group, wanted to achieve throughout the filming of the music video. This was done through producing a brainstorm on what genre there was to consider. We researched many genres and music videos ranging from the hip-hop genre of Eminem and 50 Cent; to the rock’ n ’roll of Metallica. We wanted to find something that appealed to the target audience chosen. (See Planning Page 9.) We decided upon producing a video based on a song from “The Streets”. This song and video would appeal to a teenage to late 20’s audience mainly based in the C2, D, E sector. This means we would need a ‘chav’ look for our main character as the rap industry mainly appeals to youths that come in the category of ‘young hooligans.’ To do this we had to research rap videos that appealed to this target audience. The rap videos that we researched were ‘The Streets’ – ‘Fit but you know it!’ and ‘Dry your eyes;’ Both showing similarities. ‘Dry your eyes’ is mainly concentrated on one man and his dog. This creates well known saying of "a mans best friend". The... ... middle of paper ... ...s such as the use of my bum in one scene. This allows the audience to have a humorous escape whilst also being presented with serious social and political views. We feel that our video would be shown on many of the Sky/Telewest music channels. Channels such as MTV Base and the U Channel will be in common use because these channels have a reputation for producing and viewing videos that consist of rap. It is not only music videos where my music video would appear. There are many other places that my video can be seen. Some artist often promote there videos on Talk Shows and there they often play live. This would promote the video to allow a specific audience to see it. I may also put an advert on T.V. Most noticeably the music channel adverts as it would be music channel viewers who would be interested in my work.

The genre of the film is how we know what kind of film it is. Genre is a French word which literally means type; it shows what category a film comes under. There are certain factors in a genre which will identify it. Things like settings, characters and themes can all be similar in one specific genre.

Music is a big part of our lives, it’s in everything whether it be dance, film, ads and much more. But music isn’t just sound, most famous artists produce films for their music to show the artists interpretation of the lyrics and/or music and this is called a music video. These music videos can range from animation to dance to short films and can have a very big budget.
During this past decade, advertising companies go out of their way just to get the new scoop or trend children are into, gathering information and distributing it to other companies. Information such as what types of idols they enjoy to wh...
Although the teens of the fabulous fifties have come and gone, the teens of today have stepped up to the plate to instill their own fashion trends, music, slang and history. The teens of the twenty-first are said to "be the future", although the future may not look too bright in some elders eyes. In contraire, that is what may have been thought to be said of the teens of the fifties. With their endless rock and roll and rebellion the teens of the fifties are very much different but very much the same of the teens in the twenty-first century. It is amazing to see what the world has become, from bobby socks and roadsters to mini skirts and vipers.
The genre i have studied is musicals. A musical is a film which has musical performances from the actors to express their feelings. The films from this genre that i studied are 'Singin' In The Rain' (Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, 1952), 'Grease' (Randall Kleiser, 1978) and 'Hairspray'(Adam Shankman, 2007). I studied two characteristics of the musical genre (Breaking Into Song And Dance and The Grande Finale) that are shown in the films studied. The identifying characteristics of 'Breaking Into Song And Dance' and 'The Grande Finale" are always seen in musicals. These characteristics are expected to be in a musical by the audience and ultimately make a musical what we predict it to be, a film that expresses characters feelings through song while

The definition of the word genre is “a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style or subject matter” (Merriam Webster). These categories are what is used to classify music into different genres. The 5 most popular genres of music include heavy metal, rock n' roll, alternative, hard rock, and classical.
The audience I decided to target was mostly kids, but it’s also strongly directed towards adults and young adults. I focused the most on persuading kids because kids are our future and kids will grow up with the idea of
MTV promotes a romanticized teen lifestyle, reflecting the images of famous artists that differ with the realities of the “Generation X” lifestyle. While some view the station as “illustrated radio” or an entertainment network for viewers’ pleasure, others more accurately consider it as an advertising enterprise that endorses products and promotes attitudes (O’Neil 12). Whether or not MTV critics agree with these “messages” that, the network sends out, it has become a huge franchise generating large profits and great popularity. MTV’s entertainment, commercialism, and messages satisfy and influence many types of viewers, giving us, the viewing audience, a better understanding of the immense popularity of Music Television (MTV).
Hip hop has not only become one of the most listened musical genres in the past decades, but it has also become the top among young American’s. “Of all the radio musical styles available in the BIGinsight database, Hip-Hoppers skew the youngest. In fact, the second youngest audience, Alternative fans, is almost three years older on average. Almost two thirds of the audience is between the ages of 18-34. Very few are over the age of 65. If this is the youngest format audience, it stands to reason that the members of the audience have made the least progress in pursuit of a career – and that is why it comes in dead last among format groups in terms of annual household income. It skews very high in the number of students, military and unemployed individuals in the audience.”
Though I have only listed a few genres they expand into multiple other styles of music. Musicians are inspired by other musicians and everyone else around them. Creating music is another way of building connections and developing your own unique sound. It is up to you on how you will express your creative approach to music and how others will be influence by it.
The importance of music in movies is highly regarded for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and helping them immerse into the story. Music is one of the prime elements in cinema. Without it a movie would feel dull and unexciting. There are three elements in a movie: one is acting, the second is picture, and the third one is music. It is a holy trinity; if incomplete, there would be a lack of sensation and excitement. Both acting and picture can stand independently from one another, but music is the one that makes the movie memorable.
