It’s not as if we’re pledging to move mountains, but it seems like a simple resolution to lose weight or to get organized may as well be as big as a mountain without a winnable strategy. You’ll need to be honest about your knowledge and experience. Remember, you’re playing for results so you’ll need to be smart in all that you do. Perhaps you’ll need to educate yourself about something before you can fully engage. All too often, people overestimate their skill and availability or underestimate the challenges ahead. Most people are pretty good at picturing the finish line but forget to also picture themselves playing through the year. Can you see yourself in action Monday to Sunday the 52 weeks leading up to the finish line? At some point in life most people have allowed at least one challenge to defeat them, if not more. Then there are those people who view these challenges as simply that, a challenge. This was the theme throughout Kyle Maynard’s novel, No Excuses, I learned that it is how we go about conquering these challenges that defines us as people. My New Year's resolution for 2018 is something called the Ann Voskamp plan. Ann Voskamp is a stay at home mom who educates her children so she has a lot of time on her hands. She has a plan for her everyday life that follows a direct path for organization. I don't really have a plan to do things because everything I do just happens randomly. A plan to follow would help me become somewhat organized and make my ways somewhat consistent.
One goal that it has allowed me to achieve was a high school team state champion title for bowling in February of 2015. Our team’s journey to state started off needing to place in the top 4 at the high school regional. I was really proud of my team members because we kicked off a huge first place win to advance to sectionals the following weekend. At sectionals we did the same thing. We placed first, which set us up for a trip to state. I was amazed at the young talent level that we had and our potential to win a state title. While at state we set three different goals. The goals included a state record for the score of three games, a state record for the score of six games and a state record for one game. Individually I placed second out of 77 total competitors. State is set up by having twenty four high school teams from around the state bowl twelve total games; six games on Friday and six on
I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. As a social worker I will be better equipped to empower others in goal setting and planning after going through the planning myself. Being aware of how social systems and the environment affect goal setting will allow me the ability to view client’s situations through an ecological lens, while empowering them in the goal setting and planning
In retrospect, our mindset greatly defines who we are. Whether we want to make an effort toward achieving our goals or not, our mindset makes us do that. Michael Jordan didn’t stop trying until he achieved his goal, no matter how many failures he went through. He could accept failure, but he couldn’t accept not trying. Failure helped him become more successful, just like it has helped many others such as Tom Brady. Brady learned from his mistakes and became better at his job. These examples show us that our mindset can completely change our lives if we let it. If we change certain parts of our mindset such as being positive, accepting failure, and doing nothing less than hard work, then we can all become successful in whatever path we want to take.

I think the most important thing to do is believe in you. You cannot reach your goals without this key factor. Also use a calendar, next actions list and tracking form. These help so much I know from personal experience throughout this year. This cuts down on stress and helps you keep organized and on track to the goals you have.

Goal setting is key in motivation; goals need to be clear, sharp, and realistic. To make these feel more achievable it is better to break these down into smaller medium-term goals and medium-term goals into short-term goals so that you have a clear connection between what one does every day and their long-term goals.
Out of everything that we 've learned this quarter, goal setting was something that stood out to me. There are a few times where I set a goal in my head but end up never achieving them, wether it was something very simple or more of a long term goal. A technique that stood out to me in our notes is, writing down your goals. I don 't I 've ever written down a single goal that I 've had. Being in my Personal Development class there has been many success strategies from our On Course textbook. These strategies will be carried on in my life as a guide to my very own personal philosophy of success. Once you set your goal, you need to start getting more specific. It moves from a dream into reality. Make a plan, it must move from your mind to a piece of paper. Write down the things that you need to do. What do you want to achieve? What will be your life when you achieve your goal? Things that you need to be done. Things that you want to learn more about your goal. Qualities that you admire in others. Improves the qualities you have. Habits that you want to stop and habits that you want to improve.
I know in the back of my mind that I need to eat healthier and exercise more, but I never actually put my thoughts about it into action. I need to keep myself in the right mindset to accomplish my goals of making myself healthier. I often will get distracted and forget all about what I had planned on doing; I need to focus. I think also having someone else there to push me and make sure I keep at the good habits will keep me from straying away.
