Hello, and thank you for your question on craft beer and cocktail trends! In general, we have found that some of the trends overlap between craft beer and cocktails such as innovation and the ways in which flavors are innovated as well as the focus on premium drinks. Trends in 2018 involve the Instagrammability of drinks.

Innovation is “essential to the success of craft breweries.” Packaging is one area where craft beer innovation is strong. Packaging allows craft breweries to stand out in a competitive market. Different boxes, holders, as well as attractive art are all techniques used by craft beer breweries.
Flavors are also innovated by craft breweries. Younger consumers may not be “brand loyal” so they must be attracted with standout flavors. The taste itself is but one quality considered; texture, visuals, and style are equally important. Younger consumers are “more adventurous than loyal” which means they’re willing to taste non-traditional flavors. Organic, non-GMO, clean labels, and natural ingredients are all innovative trends fueled by millennials. A “back to nature” approach fuels the decision to include honey, maple syrup, and other natural ingredients.
For cocktails, innovation has fueled a rise in dark spirits with ingredients such as fruit or vanilla. Like younger craft beer drinkers, cocktail drinkers are more open to new tastes and sensations that may not be completely traditional. “Botanicals” as well as “vegetable flavors” are current innovative trends. Spirits that are “better for you” are a hot trend similar to craft

The premium trend began with spirits and cocktails but also spread to craft beer. For both drink types, consumers are willing to pay more for higher quality. Enthusiasts are the most likely consumers to spend more, but some consumers would buy an expensive product to taste it knowing full well that they may never buy the product again.
COCKTAILS
SMOKE AND HEAT FLAVORS
Smokey flavors are a current trend for spirits. Smoked woods such as applewood, pecan wood, and mesquite as well as smoked flavors such as chocolate and cherry are burgeoning. Industry experts claim that cocktails with complex mixed smoke flavors may be seen in the future, especially in premade ready to drink cocktails. Heat is another flavor valued in cocktails trending now, especially heat that adds complexity rather than simple spiciness.
TRADITIONAL UPDATES
Cocktails are being treated as a type of “elixir” by some consumers. Cocktails can be seen as an “aperitivo” or “digestivi” by consumers who prefer natural flavors in their cocktails. These cocktails can help open the palette or aid in digestion like traditional Italian foods that serve the same purpose.

Tom Standage has described the beginnings of six beverages: beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca-Cola and has found many connections, and information helpful in finding out history of the drinks themselves but also their impacts on the growth of civilization as a whole. This book connects everything with society both past and present, it makes learning about history and the way drinks connect fun and interesting. Like learning without even realizing you are. A History of the World in Six Glasses is more than just talking about each beverage as a single but as a whole, it’s connections, uses, relations, and growth they started.
Mountain Man has many unique factors that add value to their brand. First and foremost, Mountain Man is family owned and therefore perceived as being high quality and considered a legacy product. The lager also has a reputation of being a miner’s beer and many people seem to drink Mountain Man in an attempt to connect with previous generations. Their fathers and grandfathers drank Mountain Man and they want to drink it too. Mountain Man lager is respected for its old school, regional brew characteristics (strong, dark, and bitter). The beer’s primary consumers are mainly blue-collar men who are in the middle-to-lower income bracket and over the age of 45. Due to these unique qualities, Mountain Man had created a str...
The people of the Renaissance also drank non-alcoholic beverages that we drink today like a lemon drink, apple cider, water, tea, etc. They drank a lemon drink that is like the lemonade we drink often, but instead of using sugar like how most of us make lemonade today they used honey as their sweetener. They drank this lemon drink before a meal to get stomach acids going. That also drank sage water that was made by soaking the sage in a pitcher of water overnight. Sage water has benefits because in the article Non-alcoholic beverages it states,” This provides a very refreshing beverage to cleanse the palette between courses at a feast”(Meade). This drink also had a different variations but used coriander seeds and was called coriander water.
How these factors enabled MMBC to create such a strong brand; and why, despite its strong brand, MMBC was experiencing a decline in 2005. I will show that the decline is due to changes in beer drinking patterns, markets, and demographics in the region as well as the U.S. in general.
The beverage industry is highly competitive and presents many alternative products to satisfy a need from within. The principal areas of competition are in pricing, packaging, product innovation, the development of new products and flavours as well as promotional and marketing strategies. Companies can be grouped into two categories: global operations such as PepsiCo, Coca-Cola Company, Monster Beverage Corp. and Red Bull and regional operations such as Ro...
... them. The expansion into other areas in the world is something that the company is constantly considering. Expanding their advertising and marketing to reach those individuals in the United States that have not “experienced” the craft beer industry is a constant tactic the company considers. There are also potential environmental threats that the company realizes and considers while making their business decisions.

A drink of central Mexican terroir, folklore, rituals, and everyday life, has made its way onto shelves worldwide over thousands of years. This drink, tequila, eponymously named after its town of origin (Tequila), originated in the Mexican state Jalisco. The history of tequila can be traced back 2,000 years ago to Indian tribes that inhabited central Mexico experimented with the indigenous agave plant. The agave plant is a relative of lilies, but resembles the aloe vera plant in shape and appearance (as they both sport spiked cactus-like leaves). Similar to the differences between bourbon and Scotch, Mezcal and tequila are sold as two different products. Although all agave plants can be used for Mezcal wine, the production of Mezcal wine is the preliminary step to making tequila. Furthermore, only the blue a...
When it comes to foods and drinks popularized by American restaurants, it is easier to trace some histories and virtually impossible to trace others. For example, the invention of the potato chip is easily traced to a chef at a resort in Sarasota Springs, but there are more than a dozen people and locations claiming the invention of the hamburger. The margarita is another concoction without a clear history. (-- removed HTML --) The Early Days of the Margarita (-- removed HTML --) All of the stories regarding the invention of the margarita agree that it was a cocktail that could be served with or without ice.
Age date rum is aged for a minimum of 10 years and is a blended type of rum. Based on their distillation method, pot still rums first arrived in the Caribbean islands, and many brought with them knowledge and experiences in brandy making. The pot still consists of three parts: the kettle where the liquid is boiled, the condenser which cools down the vapors coming from the kettle, and the gooseneck which connects the kettle to the condenser. The liquid obtained from this process is then aged in oak barrels. There are three popular ways to drink rum: neat, with cola, or in a cocktail.
As a bartender, you will be expected to know the ins and outs of the liquors you are handling, as well as the types of glasses your drinks are to be served in. Learning the different types of liquors and what they mix well with can be a daunting task, but one that is mandatory. Some people who come to your bar may want to try something new, or have a question about what mixes well. While you are not required to provide the most elaborate answ...
Grape skins contain natural yeasts which convert sugars into alcohols. Unlike precedent alcoholic beverages, the Spirits were inventions rather than discoveries. The Spirits were a result of experimentation done by Arab
The “Top Challenge Trend” is likely that of “Faster Pace of Innovation” causing increased competition due to lower barrier of entry. (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2012) With the increase competitors from both major competitors like PepsiCo vs generic branding of sodas at cheaper rates. The market is flooded with new flavors and new competitors all the time.

Over the last few decades, technology has greatly increased its abilities. It started from the simple radio to now having cell phones which can surf the web. Technology has greatly influenced our society in many ways. Nowadays it has made family relationships have a different connection and has simplified people’s lives. A couple decades ago, a person would never had imagined to Skype a family member across the world. It would be like trying to imagine teleportation. It was unthinkable, but with moderation, technology has evolved for the better. With the new technology in our world, people are able to talk to their distant family members. People are also able to save time and watch a movie with their extra time. There are pros and cons to having technology nowadays. Yes, people are able to communicate faster and save money, but technology is also disconnecting them from the people around them. Technology has changed humanity for the better, but humans must know to use technology in moderation.
