Cousin Eddie’s staff, Firstly, on behalf of your new CEO, Sidney Jones, and myself, we want to thank you for your commitment and dedication to Cousin Eddie’s throughout the years. As the company grows, it is important that our company values and culture move forward as well. As the Vice President of Internal Strategy, it is my role to inform you of any changes to the company in this regard. Over the next few weeks, we will be introducing new strategies to ensure all employees understand and practice our values and culture, and we apologize in advance for any complications that these will create for you. After speaking with Sidney, we have decided to make some adjustments to the work schedule here at Cousin Eddie’s to begin to incorporate
our new vision and goals appropriately. These changes will include three weeks of morning meetings, followed by a week-long retreat. As these events will be mandatory for all, please adjust your schedules accordingly to allow for meetings at 7 am on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, beginning next week. Also, please also account for the retreat, which will occur after the third week of meetings. At Cousin Eddie’s, we want all of our employees to be devoted to our vision and believe in what he or she is doing for the company. We feel strongly that these changes to our strategies will bring out the best in our employees. Eric Ostendorf is a 15 year old boy that has developed an eating disorder that is taking over his life. This started out as what seemed like a typical teen hobby, wanting to build some muscle. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was tailored to cripple the immigration of Chinese into the United States, because they were deemed inassimilable and seen as uncivilized, unclean and filthy, creating an anti-Chinese fervor (Zia). This era promoted resentment towards Chinese which further escalated, with the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924 that extended to other Asian groups. Nonetheless, this did not prevent Chinese immigrants from entering the United States. Chinese found loopholes in the law that allowed them to bring their family members as ‘paper sons’. The 1906 earthquake in San Francisco destroyed municipal records, which catalyzed immigration from China by allowing Chinese-men to claim US citizenship and bring their family from China (Takaki 8). The Adventures of Eddie Fung depicts the story of a young-man born in China and his immigration to the US as a ‘paper son’ in the 1930s. His significance correlates to the contradiction developed by US deeming Chinese as inassimilable, and presenting Eddie enduring his hardships but maintaining his inner-American spirit. The book portrays his life in Chinatown, Texas and serving for the US military during WWII, which allowed Chinese to experience the preliminary steps in gaining acceptance in the US (Takaki 14).
As a social worker it is often complex to determine which theory to employ in practice, each client will warrant for an in-debt assessment of the presenting problem and goals the client desires to achieve. This paper will explore one family intervention model that can be applied to the Taylor family. The two theories analyzed are Cognitive Behavioral Family Theory, (CBFT) and Structural Family Theory (SFT); both theories can be utilized when assisting individuals or families.
