(5) To what extend does the change in the Bahamian family structure lead to the many social problems in our society? As mentioned before in my research “a family is a group of two or more people related by blood, marriage, adoption and step or foster and who usually live together in the same household. This includes newlyweds without children, gay partners and other variations”. Over the past years it seems that a change has been made in the Bahamian family structure. According to www.markedbyteachers.com, “if you were born about 60 years ago you would have lived in an extended family. However today you are probably living in a common law family”. It goes on to say that “this change of the family structure in the Bahamas occurred between the 18th-20th centuries. The first change of structure is due to divorce. This contract agreement has put a lot of people under the pressure and problems they are currently in or facing.
