For as long as I could remember, I have wanted to help improve peoples’ lives. Whether it is giving advice to students, or serving as a role model for my siblings, helping others has been a second nature in my life. I hope to use the Courage To Grow Scholarship to help pursue my dreams. Although, the cost of higher education continues to increase yearly, unfortunately, scholarships do not adjust to cover the cost of inflation. As a result, students like myself are in a position where we are close to graduating, but may lack the sufficient funds in order to pay for our courses. I am one year away from graduating, and one away from achieving my first dream. From spending countless nights studying to writing papers, I have come too far only come
up short at the end. With the generous financial support of the scholarship, my financial problems will cease to exist in the year and I could continue learning the skills necessary that will help me accomplish my goals. As a first generation college student, college is a new experience. Graduating with a college degree will not only help me improve my life, it will enhance my family lives too. Any funds that would help alleviate the cost would pay a massive dividend on my academic career. However, financing college is the only issue that may derail the chances of achieving my first dream. Afterwards, I will work toward etching my mark on the world.
I believe that there are many reasons that I am well qualified to receive this “Courage to Grow” scholarship. One main point would be my excellence in leadership and community service. I currently serve as senior class Vice President and President of the Future Teachers of America club at Auburn High School. I am a class representative for our Student Council and am very involved with the children’s ministry at my local church, serving as a Kids Camp counselor and VBS assembly leader. Another reason I believe I should receive this scholarship is for my outstanding academic achievements. I have been inducted into the National Honors Society, Spanish National Honors Society and the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honors Society. I have also received
Unfortunately, my family and I fall into an area of the middle class that prohibits us from receiving need-based aid. Although I have graciously been awarded the Elizabeth Ann Seton Scholarship, without some additional form of aid, a Seton Hill education may be prohibitively expensive. My fourth year’s tuition alone would cost $37,520 with my current scholarship, and I would still have to pay for living expenses. Once my undergraduate and fifth years’ expenses are included, I will be over $150,000 in debt when I graduate. As a student who has worked exceedingly hard in the classroom and as a leader for four years, this amount of financial burden feels like a punishment. If I do not receive the Seton Scholar Award, I am not confident that I can attend Seton Hill and make the impacts I have described in this
Upon the completion of my high school career I was faced with the sudden realization that I was growing up and on the verge of becoming independent. A few months prior, I had applied to Montana State and received my acceptance letter. The future was before me and my ambitions were truly limitless. That is, until the fact set in that I was going to have to pay for this education that I desired. I knew that with my busy schedule, I would be unable to make enough money while only working a few hours here and there. I was beginning to lose sight of hope. Then one day I talked to my counsellor about what I could do and he pointed me towards dozens of scholarships that I could apply for. The exigence or purpose

I know that through my hard work and dedication I can make my goals a reality. However, it may not be possible without these Scholarships. While my parents will help me in any way they can, I am hoping that my hard work and dedication to my studies pays off. I am a very self-driven individual who will accomplish any goal I set my mind on achieving. I am also aware of how without scholarships I may face a financial setback. I am hoping that through the help of scholarships I will be able to achieve all my goals in a timely
One famous scientist has said the following words, “When everything seems to be going against you remember the airplane takes off against the win, not with it.” – Henry Ford. If the airplane can do it then, cannot I? This is the mentality that I have developed from facing all that I have in my lifetime. Amongst the most wearisome of my worries was gaining monetary stability. However, I did not make that discourage me. I always told myself that I would gain education and I would not let anything stop me. Living in a single parent family though did not make that dream easy for me, but I sought help from gracious organizations that have helped me throughout the years. I would want to be the person to help someone just like me who does not have the financial backing in getting an education. This is one of my goals as well as to help youths in my community to turn their backs on drugs and gambling and see the bigger picture of the world that we live in. I would love to let all youths know that if they have the will to become the next Nobel Prize winner then they will become as they please. In my attitudes and actions this is what I say to youths in my community, hoping that they would imitate a part of me despite all the odds against
College students, being the nucleus of a society, need the necessary tools to overcome the diverse barriers in life specifically the financial ones. This can relieve them emotionally, and helping them can push them to reach their goals. Since Obama administration had been working on this, there has been an increase in the financial aid. Colleges need to partner with organizations to leverage the access and affordability and the financial aid department can always work for example with the Gates Millennium Scholarship. Being a particular element in the economic field of a country, college needs to be cost-effective to college students. Since the future relies on them, helping those students at the financial level is not only helping them to do something meaningful with their lives, but is also
As a student that attends UNC Wilmington I understand the monetary factors that must be met in order to attend. Unlike other schools I didn’t receive a merit scholarship to attend and soon realized I didn’t have twenty grand lying around either. Great lengths were met in order for me to even be able to register for class. The first step I ha...
My passion for public service initiated in my third grade reading class. It was there that I volunteered for “Reading Together USA”, a program to help younger children learn to read. The joy and delight that I felt from witnessing my students’ progress was unprecedented to any feeling that I ever felt before, and I knew from that point forward that my life would be committed to serving the public. Although my forms (TRYING TO SAY WAYS LIKE 1st pre-med then law) of serving others may have changed, the trend of service has remained constant through high school, college, and even my career.
I believe that I should be awarded the Courage to Grow Scholarship because of the impact it could have on my life. As a student pursuing a higher education I have set goals for myself and I believe that this scholarship will bring me one step closer to achieving them. I plan to be the first person in my family to graduate from college with an engineering degree. I am currently on track to complete my degree by May of 2020 and plan to begin working after I graduate, as an Electrical Engineer. Coming from a single-parent home it has always been my highest priority to get my degree and help my mother by becoming a success. With the help of this scholarship I will be making the necessary progress to turn that dream into a
In our lives today, not everyone can financially afford to attend a four year university or college, but yet people still attend because they have academic goals. Currently there is help with grants, merit scholarships and loans available for some. However many students do not realize they will eventually be left to pay the majority of the money back. Students
Growing up in Tennessee, the term "servant leadership" is a concept that I have come to know very well. The desire to put others first and to help those in time of need is what drives me to attempt to become a medical professional; however, in order to do so, I must first satisfy all educational requirements placed before me. In the event that I receive the Smith County Bank Scholarship, I would be able to focus all of my efforts on achieving my dream. Without the assistance of this scholarship, my ability to attend university would be altered; this is because I live in a low-income, single-parent household along with two other siblings. Often times, situations similar to mine are associated with failure; however, every day I strive to disprove
A global citizen is that who is willing to use its voice and knowledge to make a change. No one would ever be able to make a change in just one day, it is something that takes time and devotion. I’m really interested in diversity and I’m seeking to what is my role is as a world citizen. The fact that I’m searching for an international education is the proof of my desire to establish myself as a global citizen and my interest in the world issues.
This May, I end one journey and start the next as I become a freshman at a top ranking university with the intention of gaining a 4 year BSN and minoring in music composition and graduating with a 4.0. I have worked very hard to be a good student and to do the research of what it takes to be a great nurse. The adventure is going to be a long one, but it will definitely be worth it. The first thing I will do to complete these future goals is to apply for scholarships to help me pay for school as another one of my goals is to graduate debt free.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
