Courage, Myth, And Truth In The Crucible By Arthur Miller

For the last couple of weeks, i have read a book called “ The Crucible.” After reading this book,i think that is is very crazy, some people might have a different opinion, However, I also believe that the crucible is essentially about courage, weakness, and truth. Let me explain why. The crucible is filled with a lot of people, everyone in this story play a very important part.

This book shows that it has courage, the reason why is because many characters are willing to do whatever it takes to prove their point. For example, in the crucible there is a man named john proctor, he is a tormented individual, he believes that his affair with abigail another main character, has ruined his relationship with his wife. John proctor new what he

did was wrong, his wife elizabeth proctor was accused of witchcraft. Even though proctor did his wife ugly, he simply tried to do whatever it takes to prove that she's innocent. In my opinion i believe that is courage even though he did a wrong. “ My name, he want my name. I'll Murder you, he says, if my wife hangs. Is what mary said to the judge that proctor threatens her.
This story shows courage but it also shows weakness. Another example is form the main character proctor. John proctor experiences a moment of weakness and gives into abigail's seduction. John proctor allowed a young girl to seduce him. He had been experiencing a cold shoulder at home. His wife elizabeth had been sick, she could not show john the closeness he need. John proctor gave in to momentarily weakness he jeopardized his marriage for the pleasure he could experience with the forbidden fruit names abigail. That is how this story shows weakness.
Finally this story shows truth the main thing. Truth is the number one thing because in their town salem, they don’t like when people lie, you must tell nothing but the truth. So i believe that this story has a whole lot of truth. For example proctor also realized that he held an influential position in salem and that, by admitting to witchery. He would supply reason to believe that the entire trial wa indeed valid. Reverend hale who is the spiritual doctor in salem, also realized this and up until the second proctor is hung. He was insistent that proctor confess. Procter says,” I speak my sins, I cannot judge another.” By doing this he hoped that the town would accept the truth. The town did not approve and did not accept his confession. That is why telling the truth in the begging is better than keeping it.
In conclusion, I believe that this story is awesome because it it very interesting. It builds suspense, I think that this story is really good because of the three factors Courage, Weakness, and Truth. I think that if the crucible didn't add those three things then it wouldn't be that good. The crucible was a story about how they live and what they believe in. They didn't really have certain rights. They were guilty until proven innocent. That's why they had to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. The Crucible is a great book in my opinion and i'm sure it is in others people's opinions. That is my essay on The Crucible.
