It is the study and application of beauty treatment. The branches of Cosmetology includes , skin care, cosmetics, manicures and pedicures.
TYPES OF COSMETOLOGY
The cosmetology is itself is being divided in basically two branches.
1. Decorative cosmetology
2. Remedial cosmetology
1. Decorative cosmetology.
This type of cosmetology is basically concerned with enhancing the physical appearance, or protection from the ultraviolet rays.
This is also called protective cosmetology.

An expert in the care of make up as well as skin care and beauty products is known as cosmetologist.
TYPES OF COSMETOLOGISTS
1. Hair colorist.
A hair stylist is a colorist that specializes in coloring the hair line.
2. Esthetician.
These are the licensed professionals .They have expertise in maintaining and improving healthy skin. Their general practice is limited to epidermis.
3. MENICURIST AND PEDICURIST.
They are concerned with cleaning, shape, and polish finger nails while pedicurist are performing the same thing on feet.

These are the chemical compounds used to enhance the beauty effects such as skin color , fragrance of the body , dying of the hairs etc.
HISTORY OF COSMETICS
Roman slaves were the first to use the word cosmate. These slaves used to bath men and women in perfume. In 10000 B.c men and women of Egypt used scented oils for cleaning and softening their skin. They used henna for staining their nails and lined their eyes with kohl.
Use of cosmetics was an inherited part of people of Egypt.

Esthetics, or aesthetics, translated literally means, “concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty.” As an industry, esthetics refers to the health and appearance of the skin on an epidermal level. It encompasses skin care, hair removal, and other services that aid in improving an individual’s physical appearance. Some of these services include deep cleansing facials, full body waxing, chemical peels, eyelash extension application, eyelash and brow tinting, and makeup application. Over the last 50 years, the esthetics industry has grown tremendously.
There are many different types of careers in the cosmetology field. The different types are; hairstylist, perm or hair color specialist, manicurist, pedicurist, barber, or esthetician. Anyone can major in one of these careers, multiple ones, or all of them. It doesn't matter how many they major in, they will still be considered a cosmetologist. To get a major in cosmetology, it is required to take a class in the career you are interested in. A typical cosmetology training program typically lasts nine months to about a year. Students are instructed on hair styling and cutting, scalp treatments, hair color, manicures and pedicures, chemical texture services, acrylic nail application, massages, facials, and eyebrow shaping. A student then takes advanced courses to expand their knowledge in this career. These courses may include studies on scalp disorders and diseases, scalp analysis, color application techniques, hair cutting tools, main principles of hair design, hair removal, massage techniques and benefits, cosmetology law and safe work practice. Once the course is finished, including service hours, the person then has to take and pass a state exam on the course. Once the exam is passed, the person then receives their certificate.
The first known use of dermatology was established in 1819 and only in the 1930’s did its practice become more widely accomplished, known and sought after. (“Dermatology” 2014) Since then it has extensively evolved and changed and been able to provide services for women and men around the world. Originally being a part of the medicine field can now be considered a division of the beauty industry due to availability of services and treatments for aesthetic, pampering purposes, rather than just originally founded for medical issues of resolving skin disorders and diseases.
