Cosmin Mihaiu opened his lecture with a personal story about his own experience in age six when he broke his arm. He focused in the physical therapy process that was painful, tedious and longer from the expected due to the lack of cooperation of the patient. He continues by presenting an additional example about his mother who suffered from a frozen shoulder. Like him she also did a physiotherapy and experienced a similar feelings regarding the treatment. Those two cases led Mihaiu to think about creative solution for people who need to do physical therapy. Mihaiu and three friends developed the MIRA, a video game that includes motion capture camera, Kinect and allows the player to practice on a set of repetitive exercises. Example activities

The journal officially chosen for this project was found using Google scholar. It is a published piece under their scholarly articles section. It is called the Journal of American Physical Therapy Association. This journal provides large amount of information on the history of physical therapy, along with four clinical specialty areas that show how this practice can be used. It also contains twelve published articles. The article chosen for this particular paper is called Expert Practice on Physical Therapy. This articl...
Experience is also an important aspect of this because Technologies can provide unique experiences through simulations and virtual reality. This cannot be done, however, without a very high standard of design. Through technologies that have been designed specifically to simulate, children can discover passions about themselves and unleash powerful ideas.
“With her sweet voice, magical hands, technical precision and absolute determination, Renee put me back together, and I’m golfing again,” states Elyse Wolf, a patient of a physical therapist (Our Equipment). With the help of Wolf’s physical therapist, she was able to golf again. Physical therapists help people recover from injuries and disability health crises. As one prepares for a future in the field of physical therapy, one must consider the job, the educational requirements, the work environment, the wages and benefits, and the potential for the advancement of a physical therapist.

It is a home exercise program that allows the patient to take an active part in their healing. Gently moving the soft tissue prepares it for the treatment it receives from the therapist. Time previously spent during the therapy session to initiate change in the tissues is used instead to advance further release and flexibility. The therapist is able to focus treatment time on stubborn areas of connective tissue restriction that have not changed in response to exercise. The positioning the patient uses to complete the exercises helps the therapist identify the source of the problem which is not usually in the same place as the patient’s primary complaint. This partnership between the therapist and the patient translates into quicker recovery and improved pain relief for the
According to Benedict the XVI, “The world offers you comfort. You were not made for comfort, you were made for greatness.” This is a very appropriate motto to illustrate what I plan to do through my future career. I will go above and beyond as a physical therapist to encourage patients to surpass their comfort zones to reach their ultimate potential. With a focus on prevention, I plan to empower patients through education to maximize movement and thus optimize their quality and enjoyment of daily life.
In order for physical therapists to appropriately optimize movement, they need the intelligence to adequately promote and define the movement system. Exceptional understanding of the movement system is pertinent in identifying impairments, recognizing activity restrictions, providing therapeutic interventions, and appreciating the potential for the human
Physiotherapy can be described as an allied healthcare profession which aims to help restore movement and function after injury, illness or disability through the use of manual therapy, movement, exercise and education (Charter...
There are two approaches to games and learning, namely, Game-Based Learning (GBL) and gamification. GBL, also referred to as 'Serious Games', which are computer or video games designed for a primary purpose (education or solving a problem) other than entertainment. This involves the use of simulations to support teaching and learning. Gaming simulation is an interactive-learning environment that makes it possible to cope with authentic situations that closely mimic reality. According to Kip Kelly (2013) “serious games can allow players to apply what they have learned in an L&D [Learning and Development] experience and apply it in a safe, simulated environment. For example, health care professionals can practice a new medical procedure using a serious simulation game before introducing it in the workplace”.
As one progresses into a professional career, it is necessary to develop and build upon a distinct vision for one’s future patients and consider how one might convey that vision. The American Physical Therapy Association’s vision is “transforming society by optimizing movement to improve human experience.” As a future physical therapist, I will personally embody this vision by engaging with my patients with an emphasis on movement in order to heal, rebuild, and rehabilitate.
Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle. In recent years, physiotherapists have been progressively interested in defining their professional identity. Physiotherapy helps restore movement and proper functioning to the body when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Contrary to prevalent belief, physiotherapists are not restricted to the rehabilitation of back pain and sports injuries. As well as musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, physiotherapists can also manage,
The Purpose of this research paper is to explore the possibilities in virtual reality that helps with education. Is it possible to use virtual reality in the educational system? What does it bring to the table that conventional teachings do not? What other devices are coming to the market that can be used? In this paper we will also be looking at few examples of virtual reality video games that are now used in the glass room or are about to be.
You are 10,000 feet in the air, the skydiving instructor yells for you to jump, you push yourself into the open air, you freefall for 10 straight minutes as the air pushes against your face, as you land, you remove your virtual reality goggles and you are back in your cozy living room. Alright we may not be at this point yet, but this could be how we entertain and thrill ourselves in the near future; the full implementation of virtual reality into our daily lives. As soon as I found out about virtual reality, I was entirely intrigued. The idea that you could experience anything without having to leave your home enticed the adventurer in me. We will explore the history and progression of virtual reality and discuss the pros and cons of the emerging
