A person’s identity can be given through their different looks. Expression can be given through any piece of cosmetology, all the way down to the nails. Cosmetology is a strong way for people to express who they are without having to say a word. When researching the career of cosmetology it is important to address the history, skills and education and positive and negative aspects of the profession. A person must start off by having a passion for the career choose. It has to be enjoyed in every aspect and in every way possible. A person truly has to be creative and imaginative when messing with hair, nails and makeup. Stepping outside the box in cosmetology is very important. Knowing multiple different ways to express the customer’s personality means a lot. There look will most definitely identify them and it all depends on the cosmetologist to make that happen. A high school diploma or a GED is absolutely required for this career. Sometimes cosmetology programs are offered at high schools even. The time limit for studying in this career field could be between eight months up to two years. It all depends on if you would like to be full or part-time. States require an individual to take a state examination or multiple exams in order to obtain there cosmetology license or specialty permit. Typically there is a written portion of the exam that is graded immediately, and then there is a practical portion of the exam that takes anywhere from a few hours to most of a day depending on the state. Being patient is key though, the grading and mailing process can be a little bit of a wait. A person has to also look at all the negative and positive outlooks when beginning this
