Corporal Punishment
Since the mid-1950s, parents and psychologists have been battling over the topic concerning corporal punishment. The parents were raised in homes where corporal punishment was used, and they feel that it was a successful technique that raised them well. Psychologists, on the other hand, conducted research; a lot of which was biased and false, telling parents that corporal punishment was bad for their children. After years of researching and studying the effects of corporal punishment, the most popular theories stating that it is a harmful technique, were proven wrong. Corporal punishment is found to be a good technique in the right situations, with the right motives, and using the correct tools.
During the 80s and 90s, the media over-exaggerated books and survey results which had a negative effect on corporal punishment in private homes and schools. The media virtually ignored the results of surveys if they had positive things to say about corporal punishment. Almost all of the studies came to the same conclusion when discussing the type of people that use corporal punishment on their children. Most of the parents who were advocates for corporal punishment were Jewish or Christian parents, following their belief in what the Bible says. The research also included other possible ways that parents could punish their children, but many of these were found to be unsuccessful for many children or they worked better when spanking was included. Throughout the drama, The Crucible, the characters are faced with chilling choices as they maneuver through a world that has lost its moral compass. The crucibles, the serious tests, of their dearly held values put them in the position of having to figure out what is right and true in a world turned upside down. The value of truth is tested when lies are rewarded and truth brings suffering, shame and the scaffold of the gallows. The value of justice is challenged by a system that comes to be based on coerced confessions, unsubstantiated charges and self-serving political scheming. The value of love, be it of husband and wife or of friends and community, is put to the test where true love is exemplified by fatal choices.
The division of good is decided upon by reader and character according to their perspective. For the reader, the sympathy is usually pointed towards the victim of the situation, but this play twists the power balance between victim and attacker. It makes the characters believe the victim is the prosecutor, and the prosecutor is the victim. The consequences of this role reversal involve the incrimination of a character with profoundly good morals, Rebecca Nurse. In the beginning, Rebecca was recognized by Hale when he says to her, “It’s strange how I knew you, but I suppose you look as such a good soul should.” (Miller 34) Rebecca Nurse is condemned in a time of great hysteria. Even she, a character who seems good and does nothing but good, is caught in the blasphemous whirlwind that shakes Salem.
The Crucible is a play which brings to our attention many timeless issues. The nature of good and evil, power and its corruption, honour and integrity and our tendency to create scapegoats for all manner of problems are all brought up through the course of the play - sometimes in very dramatic fashion.

The use of spanking is one of the most controversial parenting practices and also one of the oldest, spanning throughout many generations. Spanking is a discipline method in which a supervising adult deliberately inflicts pain upon a child in response to a child’s unacceptable behaviour. Although spanking exists in nearly every country and family, its expression is heterogeneous. First of all the act of administering a spanking varies between families and cultures. As Gershoff (2002) pointed out, some parents plan when a spanking would be the most effective discipline whereas some parents spank impulsively (Holden, 2002). Parents also differ in their moods when delivering this controversial punishment, some parents are livid and others try and be loving and reason with the child. Another source of variation is the fact that spanking is often paired with other parenting behaviours such as, scolding, yelling, or perhaps raging and subsequently reasoning. A third source of variation concerns parental characteristics. Darling and Steinberg (1993) distinguished between the content of parental acts and the style in which it was administered (Holden, 2002). With all this variation researchers cannot definitively isolate the singular effects of spanking.
Students who frequently engage in off-task and inappropriate behavior disrupt the classroom and hinder learning for other students (Riley, et.al, 2011). In order to reduce off-task behaviors exhibited by a particular student, it is crucial to determine the function of the behavior by conducting a functional behavioral assessment (FBA). Once the cause of the behavior is found, teachers can take steps to reduce the inappropriate behavior by implanting strategies to decrease their occurrence.

At a time when the country the country’s inflation continues to rise at a steady pace and Americans are constantly working to feed their families, some economists know that a raise in the minimum wage would help elevate some of the difficulty. The last time the federal minimum wage was raised was in July of 2009, where rose from 6.55$ to 7.25$. However there are plenty of reasons as to why the wage should be raised. Some may not think it, but raising the federal wage could very well assist the U.S with some of its largest economic problems; the increasing standard of living in the U.S, the recession in the economy, and even the ever inflating U.S national debt.
Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible is a story about Puritans, a group of people not happy with the path religion was taking and were in search of reform. The Puritans in this play live in Salem, Massachusetts and it takes place in 1692. In this story Arthur Miller tells the reader about the Red Scare and the Salem Witch Trials. The Red Scare was Miller’s way of addressing mass hysteria induced by ignorant people searching for trust and acceptance in the colonies. The Salem Witch Trials are an example of the society’s needs to conform to the political, social, and religious beliefs of the time. The girls and their actions in The Crucible represent the unknown and the threat to the court system. Each of the women in Arthur Miller’s play represent and display many different views and characteristics that are still present to this day.
