As with all forms of entertainment music can be divided up into genres and different time periods. Each period or genre gives us different sounds and styles. Sometimes they do include lyrics and sometimes they do not include lyrics. The ones with the lyrics interest me the most because you are able to find more details how about the creator is feeling and the emotions they are trying to express. A level above that would be lyrics in a language that I do not understand. That along with finding an English translation makes a composition very enjoyable and almost like a puzzle trying to figure out all the meaning that is in it. The piece I chose is a recitative from “The Coronation of Poppea”, Act I, Scene 1. This is by Claudio Monteverdi in …show more content…
Wayne is a rapper but for this love ballad which is named “How to Love” he chose to record a singing acoustic guitar ballad. Not only is a honest love song rare in the genre of hip-hop but singing the song especially as an acoustic guitar ballad is something the genre hasn’t really before this song was released in 2011. This song would also go on to influence other hip-hop artist to try their hands at singing more as well. The lyrics speak about a women who has been through a bunch of bad romantic relationships and no longer knows how to love another. When he sings “you never credit yourself so when you got older, it seems you came back ten times over” is a lyric that shows this women as an older women who has been through a lot. Another lyric that explores the women not having lost lasting relationships is “You had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever”. He sings the lyrics in mostly a direct matter to get across the story that is going on in the words. Singing “You had a lot of moments that didn’t last forever, now you’re in this corner trying to put it together” for the final time it comes with a delivery that shows more of a sense of hurt then earlier in the song. This song is very uncommon for a hip hop artist to do and shows a growth of the singular artist as
The simplicity of the lyrics allows for the audience to completely understand each word, which speak directly to their emotions causing a feeling of personal connection between the song and the listeners. For example, the song starts
But not in this case. The singer says, “Cause the truth is, girl the truth is, I still go riding around town With the windows down and your feet upon my dash…”(Florida Georgia Line). He does not accept the fact that she is no longer with him. The singer is disproving the typical stereotype because he is not going out and enjoying the single life, but is letting all of his feelings and emotions out in a last effort to show her how he feels. Throughout the song, he claims that he still imagines himself with her and that everything still feels the same because he refuses to accept the fact that she is gone. “Iit still feels so right, Like you ain't even gone”(Florida Georgia Line). In every breakup the two people usually end up missing one another because they are no longer in each others lives but end up eventually moving on. In this instance, the singers portray that the man as missing her cannot move on.and not moving on. He cares about this girl and is expressing his feelings but it’s too late. She is
A man by the name of Charles Simic once said, “Poetry is an orphan of silence. The words never quite equal the experience behind them”(Quote Land). Poems have been written for thousands of years. When most people think of poetry, they either think of a sonnet, limerick, all the way down to a haiku. They also think that a poem is something that must be recited, but in reality a poem can also be sang as a song. Lately more and more songs that are being released have a story behind them, trying to express feelings of loneliness, death, or past experiences. One of the best examples would be rap. Rappers love to tell about “their” life in the city; when the times were rough because they were poor and all the violence going on. But rap isn’t the only type of music that can be interpreted as a poem.
I think music has a way of explaining something or telling a story. Music can bring up happy times, it can also bring up sad times as well. Certain songs can remind someone of troubling issues from a past, can be the reminder of someone you have lost, it can also be a reminder of many happy times; such as weddings, high school dances, or even just hanging out with friends in the back
Song lyrics have set off a great generation of our leisure time than reading poetic devices, therefore song lyrics are better than poetic devices. Song lyrics have dropped numerous lines that attach to us now a days and make us listen to the line over and over unlike poetic devices. Song Lyrics have so much meaning by word choice and by relations.”Mr. Rager” by Kid Cudi, is about people fed up with society and plan on taking a journey. “Dreams” by Edgar Allen Poe, is about a man who dreams of a greater life. Mr. Rager, the song by Scott Cudi, has a better meaning than Dreaming, the poem by Edgar Allen Poe, by personification, allusion, and symbolism.
So that I don’t have to explain to them what it is about. Because I will not be describing nor will I explain what the artist meant from, when he was writing the song. I will be putting my own twist and thought about it. My main purpose is to make the audience think outside the box, and see how a totally different experience or event can relate somehow back to the song. That you can take something like “love you”, and somehow connect it back to a war or a celebration. The only limitation is your own
To exemplify, “[s]even of… 19 female performed songs [from 1958-2005] were about lost love, two were about strong love” (Pruitt, p. 18). Lyrics are traditionally limited for women in country music within the scope of how they affect men. However, male-fronted songs, while predominantly about heterosexual love, have a variety of topics available, such as “‘country life,’ … ‘aging,’ ‘fame,’ ‘family,’, ‘homesickness,’ ‘infidelity,’ ‘liquor’” (Pruitt, p. 17). Themes outside of love are uncommon for female country singers on the charts, though women are underrepresented on country music charts. In fact, until 1968, women were absent from the top five country charts (Pruitt,). Even though women have always taken part in country music, their role is depended upon
In the song Drake talks about how your world can come crashing during a break up when he says, “When a good thing goes bad it’s not the end of the world/ It’s just the end of a world that you had with one girl” (Rapgenius, Doing It Wrong) Continuing the theme of heartbreak in his song “Missin You” he continues to express his heartache when he said, “Ya, and when she not by my side/ And I hear that she gone/ Now its like a shock to my pride/ I don’t care if she know/ Cuz that’s basically just a male ego” (Rapgenius, Missin You (Remix)) That stanza struck me the most because Drake is telling the listener that he doesn’t care if people knows how he feels about his ex girlfriend. He references the male ego and how it doesn’t allow a man to feel hurt if a girl leaves
Music and what lyrics are placed in songs has had a lot of influence over my emotions not only when I listen to the song but when I think about the event that goes with that song. In this day and age music and media have more power to manipulate young minds than it did only a generation ago. The songs that people say are deep and meaningful are usually those that are easy to connect with. The six songs you have listened to are songs most people do not understand until they analyze the meanings of them. My own mother in fact does not like the music I listen to just because of the language and because she tends to see things as they are instead of the feelings and motivations poured into something.
The question that I was asked to write about was Should Chuck Norstadt be spending time with Justin Mcleod? In my opinion I strongly agree that Norstadt should’ve been spending time with Mcleod. I believe that when Norstadt spent time with Mcleod it really helped them both in a special that they both desperately needed. In the end of the movie It leaves the viewers to believe that they should’ve been spending time together and that it was a very special thing that Norstadt and Mcleod had.
In todays society poetry is all around us, we use it in music to deliver messages to the average radio listener. According to SelectUSA (The creative Media industry in the United States) The United States music industry in 2011 reached 15.2 billion dollars. With the information given a person can tell that a lot of time and money goes into music in today’s society. The music people listen to have many different elements that an average listener would not pick up. Many songs have poetic techniques that give great meaning to the song that makes the song unique. The song I Love the way you Lie by Eminem and Rihanna and the song Airplanes by B.o.B are similar in ways they use poetic devises and how the over all message of the two songs can relate to the average person that listen to the song.
Music content is just one of the many issues that puts the First Amendment of our Constitution to work. On one hand people believe that lyrics should be censored so that people can be protected. And on the other hand, people believe that the First Amendment protects everyone's rights to free speech. Basically, it is a matter of whether lyrical censorship be accepted.
'It seems to me, my dear friend, that the music of this ballet will be one of my best creations. The subject is so poetic, so grateful for music, that 1 have worked on it with enthusiasm and written it with the warmth and enthusiasm upon which the worth of a composition always depends." - Tchaikovsky, to Nadia von Meck.
The re-invasion of pop music has brought out the theme of love and relationships even more so then ever. If a songwriter has “writer’s block”, then the simple solution is to write a love song. “All I want is you (Come over here baby). All I want is you (You make me go crazy)... I‘m gonna love you right...” (Aguilera), is part of the chorus to Christina Aguilera’s song “Come on Over”. The attraction to this song to girls is in thinking that they could be in the situation of the female character in the song, finding the perfect guy and spending time with him. For guys, the attraction comes because a beautiful girl is singing this and they can pretend that she is singing to them. Something similar is also found in the song “Doesn’t Really Matter” by Janet Jackson. In this song she is stating all the things she loves about a certain individual. She can live with his imperfections and doesn’t care what anyone else cares. “Doesn’t really matter what the eye is seeing. Cause I’m in love with the inner being. And it doesn’t really matter what they believe. What matters to me is you’re nutty, nutty, nutty for me.” (Janet Jackson) This song is good in that it is a love song unlike many out there today. In this song we see that the main character loves her man because of who he is.
...fferent types of harmony, rhythm, and tuning that all music has in it is how we as people get things done whether you are an engineer or a doctor. I relate my life so much to music, because I might hear that beat that is going fast, and right then I might think I am living a fast-paced life and I want to change that, so then maybe I listen to a slower song that calms me down and slows time. Everybody’s life is a song and whether that song has lyrics or not is up to how we live our lives. My song would have lyrics and it would be a country song, but that is just me and I do so many of the things that country singers sing about. It could be a slow song sometimes or a fast song in country, it all depends on what I am going through in life. Everyone has their own song in life and it changes, mine has changed many times. Believe in yourself and make your life into music.
