Coral Cliff - Original Writing
It was a cold and windy night. The trees moved vigorously as the wind
blew. The silence was frightening. Carol’s face became red because of
the cold. She was driving as fast as she could through Elmore street-
the longest road in Sydney. Usually people came here if they were in a
mood for a long drive, but Carol was going for Julia’s party. Carol
had refused to come at first but Julia wouldn’t accept any excuses
from anyone since it was her last birthday in Australia. She was
moving to London forever and wanted this to be her best birthday bash
ever. Carol had tried to explain her reasons. Her house was really far
after all and she didn’t want to drive at night but Julia’s reason
was more justified. It was only one night and even Jerry would be
there. He was the most popular boy in college. Actually Carol and
Jerry had liked each other for a long time. The thing was, Carol was
waiting for Jerry to ask her out and Jerry wanted to make sure if
Carol actually liked him or not.

“Oh my gosh, you made it! Thank god!”, Julia said gleefully.
“Wish you a very happy birthday Julia! Here’s your present.” Carol
said with a big smile, handing Julia a small box covered in a red-coloured
wrapping paper with small blue hearts on it.
“Thank you so much Carol, I’ll really miss you.” said Julia with a
frown.
“Oh c’mon Julia not lets not get emotional please! Carol replied
sympathetically.
Julia led Carol to the living room where the party took place. There
he was-Jerry Thompson. He was dressed in olive green cargo pants, an
orange t-shirt that had a basketball made on it and Nike trainers.
Carol’s face turned red as he looked at her, smiling warmly!
She went and joined their group. “Hi Jerry!” she said shyly.
“Hey! Wassup? You alright?”
“Ya, I’m cool. Looks like you’re enjoying the party quite a bit.
The setting takes place in April at a funeral. There was a “gardenia on the smooth brown wood” (Holczer 1). They have been “wandering across the great state of California” (2). The setting moves to Grace's grandma’s house. It was “two stories with attic windows”, “sky-blue paint with white trim”, “ and a wood porch” (19). There were “two chairs covered in yellowed plastic and pine needles” (19). There was a gently sloped driveway. Inside the house there were “piles of Tupperware and glass dishes” (19). Outside there was a shed, garden, trees, and

Susanna at the Beach, by Herbert Gold, presents a tale of the virtues characters admire strictly contrasting with the vices for which characters are consumed. The characterization of the main character, Susanna, is portrayed as embodying seven “heavenly virtues” including chastity, temperance, diligence, patience, kindness, humility, and charity. While the other characters in the story personify the seven “deadly sins” including lust, gluttony, sloth, wrath, envy, pride, and greed. Herbert Gold depicts a theme of virtues versus vices utilizing the literary device of characterization in Susanna at the Beach as supported by the character depiction from the biblical reference of Daniel and Susanna.
"My Children are black. They don't look like your children. They know that they are black, and we want it recognized. It's a positive difference, an interesting difference, and a comfortable natural difference. At least it could be so, if you teachers learned to value difference more. What you value, you talk about.'" p.12
Crucet says, “I don’t even remember the moment they drove away,” but unlike the author’s family, mine left after I moved in, they did not stay the whole first week into my classes. After the first day of being alone, I wish they
A new danger threatens the peace of a community. One brave hero takes it upon themselves to eliminate the threat and restore happiness among their people and become the master of themselves. Is this Jaws, Jurassic park, Godzilla, The Lion King, Spiderman, Harry Potter, or Beowulf, the Anglo-Saxon poem published in the eighth and 11th century? The truth is it is all of them. The heroes journey is the common template used by a broad category of tales that involve a protagonist hero who goes on an adventure, overcomes an ordeal, and comes back home rewarded and changed. Coraline, a 2009 American 3D stop motion dark fantasy horror film produced by Laika, follows much of the same template created almost 11 centuries ago.
As Cliff walks into the Kit Kat club he enters the world of promiscuous uninhibited dancers, and people of the like. Men approach him to dance, and women entice him with their charms. He obviously wasn’t all that accustomed to this kind of happening, but he didn’t shy away from it. The first night he lived this almost unreal experience, he met a woman. Sally was a one of a kind woman of her time, being on her own, making her own living, whether that living be on stage or with a man who suits her interest for a while.

The story begins when they moved in to the castle. Coraline´s parents already had their work and had to write a book catalog for a garden store. Coraline seemed to be bored so she told her mother she was but instead of telling her what to do she shouted to her to go and look for something to herself. She went to her father who was also working on the book catalog and told him. He told her to explore the castle and look how many windows and door it had.

Inside was a shirt that read “I’M A BIG SISTER!” I put the sister shirt on and saw everything differently. “Today marks an important day and you’re going to hold your brother even though you’re nervous, you’re going take responsibility and be the best caring, loving sister you can be”, I said silently to myself.
Robinson Crusoe is a story written by Daniel Defoe in 1719. Although this novel is not well known many know the story from the modern movie “castaway”. The movie castaway premiered in 2000 and had the movie critics raving. Not all the talk about this modern movie was positive though. Many viewers really enjoyed this adventuress movie about a man being stranded on an island, others however were disappointed with the changes made to the movie from the original story Robinson Crusoe.

Reef by Romesh Gunesekera is a Bildungsroman set in the background of the Sri Lankan political coup in the year 1971. This first person narration marks the coming of age of a young protagonist named Triton. Who at the age of eleven is sent to Mr. Salgado’s household to work as a servant. “I was trapped inside what I could see, what I could hear, what I could walk to without straying from my undefined boundaries,” (Gunesekera 53). Conformed to his surroundings Triton has limited knowledge and understanding of what is going on outside Mr. Salgado’s household. He is almost oblivious to the political turmoil which was spoiling the island paradise. However regardless of religion, background, boundaries or class, no one remains an adolescent forever. Life challenges prompt an opportunity for one to find one’s position in the world.
