This Movie “ Cool Running” is a 1993 Comedy film directed by Jon Turteltaub. It is truly based on a true story for the Four Jamaicans ( Derice, Sanka, Yul and Junior). It is about the Four Jamaicans who were dreaming to participate in the Winter Olympics game.Throughout this movie, they strived to achieve their dream with the help of a coach named Irv Blitzer. Cool Runnings is a great movie because it combines adventure, humor, and sport into one movie. However, I think this movie is about following your dreams and believing in yourself more than anything else. After all it is a Disney film. The scene that best sums up this idea is when Sanka, Junior, and Yul are all in the hotel room the Hotel room talking together. Sanka begins to make fun of Yul's dream to leave the island of Jamaica and make something of himself. Yul pulls out a picture of the house he plans to live in once he reaches his goals. Sanka just laughs at the picture and says, "If you plan on living there you better marry the Queen …show more content…
I see pride. I see power. I see a badass mother who don't take no crap off of nobody!" Yul's message to Junior is one of the tiredest motivational sayings we hear, but one of the hardest to take to heart: If you don't believe in yourself, why should anyone else? Whether it's with professors, bosses or potential romantic interests, true success always starts with planting your feet and proudly affirming your own awesomeness. The next time your confidence is shaken, put yourself in front of a mirror and repeat Yul's mantra, and you'll feel like one badass mother. The storyline is feel good and quite heartwarming, at the end when they're carrying their sled to ensure they finish the race, a smile will be evident on your face, especially when Junior sees his father in the crowd supporting him. And, let's not forget, its funny, especially Sanka (Kiss the
Rolf de Herr’s 2002 film The Tracker represented some human beings in the past who have been extremely naïve, barbarous, and bigoted when it came to dealing with Indigenous Australians. This film portrayed white racism in the characters of the Fanatic, the Veteran, and at first the Recruit until he becomes stronger and eventually changes his demeanor towards the Aboriginal people. Even though the Tracker experiences immense hardship throughout the movie he was always two steps ahead of his bosses since he was very familiar with the land and was also able to outsmart his superior officers. The Tracker is a gloomy film which presents the dark past of Australia that must never be forgotten.
The main protagonist of the film, Scotty Smalls, is introduced as a straight-A, friendless young boy who has just moved into a new neighborhood in new state. While
The movie Dope, written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa, follows the story of Malcolm through his senior year of high school in the Inglewood California. When the cops bust the birthday party, he unknowingly goes home with all the drugs and the gun that the drug dealer owns. The movie I was assigned was, In the Heat of the Night starring Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. This film took place during the late 1960’s in Mississippi, where Virgil Tibbs, a black Philadelphia homicide detective, is traveling. Upon his travel, he unintentionally gets involved in a murder investigation of a business man. He was first accused of committing this murder when a police officer became suspicious of him. After they determined his innocence’s, he was then asked to help solve the case because of his vast knowledge and experience dealing with homicide crimes. He eventually agreed to help because he knew it was the right thing to do. The process for finding the killer was determined to be difficult, but even more so when Tibbs’s efforts
For several years now, Disney seems to be determined not to offend anyone in order to keep its audience; indeed we are confronted with animation films full of compromises; they are not as degrading for women as Snow-White and the Seven Dwarves (1937), but they are nonetheless still filled with clichés. Films such as The Princess and The Frog (2009), Tangled (2010), Wreck-it Ralph (2012), have in common the sense of being progressive and however we can notice the resurgence of harmful gendered stereotypes on the subjects of the social scale, women’s role in society, or the status quo. Frozen comes in and turns out to be no exception. Though it includes several encouraging and gratifying elements, it contributes insidiously to spread numerous
This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.
In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.
There is a scene in this movie where the coach takes the team on a long run in the middle of the night. They end up at the break of dawn at a cemetery. The coach tells the young men of the battle that was fought on that ground. He told of the blood shed on those grounds that turned the whole area red. This can help many people that want to make a difference in this world. They had to stand up for their new knowledge to people that they love and trust.
Run Lola Run is a film set in Berlin , Germany. This film gives you the idea of running with Lola on her journey to come up with one hundred marks in twenty minutes to save her boyfriend Manni’s life. Tom Tykwer uses many film techniques that usually are not used in movies , making this film not like every other Hollywood movie. Techniques such as the use of flashback and flash forward , this giving the film an idea that just by one slightest move or event can change your move in different ways. Other techniques that made this film interesting and attention grabbing is the use of animation, cross- cutting, birds eye view and medium shot.
The science fiction film Looper is innovative and unique, drawing upon genre conventions in a compelling way. Although the use of time travel in science fiction films is anything but original, the ionic detachment and visceral loathing gives this film an advanced, innovative plot.
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
Some of the excerpts from the movies may not sound humorous on paper, but if a person is to watch the movie, they will find the sayings funny. An example of the movie being humorous is when Sanka Cofie is talking to Yul Brenner, “What I am saying to you, is that you are the kind of club-toting, raw-meat-eating, Me-Tarzan-You-Jane-ing big bald bubblehead who can only count to ten if he's barefoot or wearing sandals.” This makes the movie humorous because Sanka was making fun of Yul Brenner because he wanted to live in the Windsor Castle. After Sanka was done making fun of Yul Brenner, Junior stood up for him and said to go after his dreams. Another example of the movie being humorous is, “Why don't I draw a line down the center of your head and make it LOOK like a butt!” This was said by Sanka Cofie to Yul Brenner. This is humorous because Yul Brenner was threatening to kick Sanka’s butt, so he told Yul Brenner that he would make his bald head look like a butt. The final reason that the movie is humorous is when Sanka sings a song to try and raise money for the bobsled team. He sings, “Jamaica, we have a bobsled team!” This part in the movie is funny because of the way Sanka is singing and dancing to the song. Another part from this certain section of the movie that is funny is when a man walks past Sanka and pays his to stop singing. In conclusion, “Cool Runnings” is a good movie because of the use of
Moreover, self-confidence is something that cannot be taught. It is up to the individual to decide how much belief that they possess inside of themselves. Further, the more people believe in success and in the achievements that they have accomplished in the past, the more they can firmly embrace new challenges in the future. In contrast, “confidence” is opposite to some of people’s negative personalities such as cowardness, timidity, and it can lead them to be afraid to fail, or do not dare to pursue their dreams. Throughout life, “confidence” can be expressed from the smallest action as a student presenting or contributing ideas to the class lessons, or a scientist announcing his inventions, or even a writer publishing his books. The best way to gain self-confidence is to look deep inside of ourselves and believe that we have the ability to overcome all obstacles and challenges we are faced with on a daily bases because our self-esteem is one of the few things that we have control over. Thus, practicing to be more confident is a crucial task people should do every
... do it and moments when you question your capacity to succeed. However, this is typical, however, don't let the questions themselves claim your confidence.
