Aaron had grown in a healthy home. There was always food on the table and a roof over his head. Sure, his parents fought and maybe his siblings haven't been real close but they were still family. His father had his own law firm while his mother stayed at home. He never went hunger or cold and he had a family that loved him. When he was thirteen the family wanted a new dog. They had had one ever since Aaron was born but last month it died from old age. With the family in grief, they went to a shelter to rescue a dog. Aaron wasn't looking for a new pet, he wanted their old dog, Cookie Monster, back. The story behind the dog's name was that his brother, who was two at the time, named the dog and it stuck. Then his youngest sister, Eva, shrieked
with excitement. She has in front of a cage and inside of it was a small puppy. She was sitting next to the door wagging her tail. Aaron's parents went and got the owner of the shelter to ask about the puppy. "Oh her? Well, let's see. She was brought in last week, terribly thin the poor thing. The people who gave her to us said that she was on the side of the road at night, bless her heart." His parents nodded. They told him that they would like to adopt her. Before they left though, they told the boys they could get one as well. So Aaron and Shawn walked around the shelter until they found a certain animal that caught both of their eyes. Sitting in the cage was a small dark puppy . He wasn't wagging his tail but looked like he could us a new home. He was a huge contrast to the other puppy with his sad look. "We want him," they said at the same time. Their parents nodded and before long they were driving home with two new puppies. The girls named theirs Peanut and the boys named theirs Moose.
Mark was the first boy that Jennings met in the home so he was the one to show Jennings the rules of the home. He slept with Doggie his first night but was panicked when he woke up to find Doggie gone. Jennings thought he had lost Doggie, Mark explained what happens every night with the animals that they are given. Jennings didn’t understand why the nuns would take them away, when he asked Mark “‘But why?’ Mark snapped and said ‘It’s the rules!’ ‘They cage the animals at night. It’s the rules.’”(Burch, 26) Jennings thought that Doggie was his, so when he was lent out to the Carpenter’s he didn’t realize he wouldn’t be able to take Doggie with him. Mrs. Carpenter was a very mean woman and Jennings just wanted Doggie back, he drew a picture of him hoping it would make him feel better. When he got back to the Home of the angels he was very happy to know Doggie was safe and he would get to sleep with him again. Shortly after Jennings got back to the home Sister Clair told Jennings she would be leaving to go help at a school, they were both new in the Home of the angels at the same time. When Jennings woke up, he found Doggie under his pillow with a note attached from Sister Clair that
Candy also feels the burden of loneliness and shows it by his relationship with his sheep dog. The dog, being described as “ancient”, “stinky”, and “half-blind”, had been in Candy’s life for a very long time and Candy had grown attached to it.
A Child Called “It” brings our attention to mental abuse that adults may inflict on a human being and in this particular case, a child. David’s mother respects the family’s dogs more than she respects her own son. The dogs are fed every day, yet she attempts to starve David. Although David has two other brothers, they learn to call him “the boy” and to pay no att...
Henry was an extremely lonely nine-year-old boy whose greatest wish was to get a dog. His parents were busy with their work most of the time and it seemed that Henry did not have any friends, perhaps because they moved so often. A dog would have provided Henry with unconditional love - something in short supply around his house - and would have been the perfect companion. The problem was, his parents did not want dog, which would have been another obligation and something else to take care of. As emotionally detached as his parents were, something else to take care of was just not desirable.

At the end of the story Vanessa was told by her mother that Nanuk became too aggressive to anyone outside the family to kept in the house, she soon asked her mother again for the truth that really happened to Nanuk and learned of Nanuk’s death. This is akin to the accident that James had with his pet pug, as he further neglect his dogs health he eventually left the back gate of his house open. This led to his dog running away from home, he did not realize that the gate was open until he noticed that his dog could not be seen anywhere in the house. In an attempt to find his dog he asked around the neighborhood and placed missing posters of his dog around the vicinity, but was unable to find his dog. As we grow old we are faced with many responsibilities to do, but we generally get distracted from following up to our responsibilities. This would ultimately lead to consequences, and these consequences helps us become more mature and realize the loss of something important or
Candy’s dog is very precious to him, not only because he had been with him ever since he was a pup but also because he could see himself in the dogs place after a very short period of time. He saw that dog grow into what he raised him to and yet he got rid of him because he had to. How more human a person is to throw his or her own dog away. It must of hurt him so much since he saw his puppy grow into the dog he raised. I once owned a puppy as well, I adopted a puppy, a Chihuahua from the animal shelter. When I brought him home my mother, whom I live with was very upset because she does not like dogs. Moreover she does not like dogs inside of the house. She is not allergic to them nor anyone in my family she just simply did not want the dog inside nor out side of the house. I was very upset because she asked me to get rid of it. I my self did not have the heart to do so and neither did I plan on getting rid of a little innocent dog who had no place else to go. One day as I come home from school I noticed that Pete, my dog was not outside in the driveway waiting for me. Which was strange, so I came inside the house and notice that he did not bark as I came inside and to my surprise my mother got rid of him. She gave it to a friend who has a passion for animals as well. The example I gave reminds me of Turgenev and Marx. Turgenev representing myself, and Marx representing my mother in my
Canine tales are becoming an ever-more-popular medium for expression, says Garber: “Just as the pathos of human love and loss is most effectively retold, in modern stories, through the vehicle of the steadfastly loyal and loving dog, so the human hero has increasingly been displaced and replaced by the canine one” (44). The spotlight has been shifted from the larger-than-life human to the humble family pet and his canine brethren. Stories that feature a dog rather than a person are able to more convey a deeper sense of meaning, establishing their...

Candy used to be a strong young man that was productive, but now Candy is left aging on the ranch with only one hand due to a machinery accident on the ranch. The other ranch hands disrespect Candy due to his physical handicaps and age. The only thing that really cheers up Candy is Candy’s dog. Candy’s dog is like a parallel version of Candy because of their many similarities like physical disabilities and age. The only thing that has a special place in Candy’s heart is Candy’s dog, and eventually, Carlson gets so annoyed by the dog Carlson shoots Candy’s dog in the back of the head, killing it. The quick and horrid death to Candy’s dog made Candy realize that he is going to share the same fate as his dog. Looking back on Candy’s life one can conclude that Candy is in a dissatisfied state about his life, given that Candy’s days of working are over and the only thing he loved is

A comical scene that occurs in this story is when the hamster comes into play. Veronica informs us about her second child, henry’s sister who is nine years old. This little girl is very upset because her father got rid of her hamster. Then, we learn more about the hamster as Michael shares his side of the story, “Yes this hamster makes the most god awful racket all night, then spends the whole day fast asleep! Henry was in a lot of pain last night; he was being driven crazy by the noise that the hamster was making. And to tell you the truth I’ve been wanting to get rid of it for a long time, so I said to myself OK, that’s it I took it and put it in the street. I thought they loved drains and gutters and all that but i guess not, it just sat there paralyzed on the sidewalk, Well, they 're not domestic animals, they’re not wild animals, I don 't really know where their natural habitat is. Dump them in the woods, they 're probably just as unhappy, so I don 't know where you’re suppose to put them.”. (7 Reza.) If this were a lifetime movie or a disney movie we would all sleep better at night because we would have seen the dad bring the
In the middle of summer, Eli appealed to Jess, his acquaintance, to admire his pet mouse because Jess often tantalized Eli that he did not have a real pet.”A tiny mouse doesn’t compare to my freakish dog”,aggrandize Jess. With this in mind, Eli decided he could try to faze him by training his pet to do a neat trick. So, after months of preparation, he finally accomplished his training. Thereafter, Eli invited Jess to come to his house after school to see this neat trick. After school, Eli drove to his house as Jess bragged about his dog as always. In the meantime, Eli calmly thought,”His dog won’t compare to my mouse when he sees it.”
Everybody was in the cafeteria having a good time when all of a sudden everybody heard a scream. It was a very short and faint scream from way on the other side of the cafeteria. This was a scream somebody would give when they see a murder and give it all they have right before they were stabbed. This is of course just a metaphor, but that’s the only way I can describe this dreadful story to why Cheez-Its aren’t allowed in the cafeteria.
Ones take of this story can be many of sorts. The dog essential may have saved this young child, his father may have chosen to throw him out the window. If the dog wasn’t there to take his place, who is to say what could had happened? It also shows how the dogs undeniable, love, devotion and eagerness to please his master. Eventually these traits, sadly left him resting lifeless in his young master’s arms. The relationships between these characters, is one of who’s pulling the strings. The abuse has been passed down from father to son. This story leaves an emptiness, with the unsettling turn of events.
