My community service act was taking Stan, my grandfather out for lunch. Currently, my grandfather is 90 years old and he still lives at home alone. Despite these containers, he appears to manage his life alone, unfortunately, I disagree with what the surface says. Overall, my intuition says he needs help, but my father and stepmother have yet to make him the priority. For this papers purpose, I will keep it simple and straight to the point of my lunch experience. Before the lunch experience with Stan, I experienced some anxiety, due to the circumstances surrounding this lunch expedition. Long story short, I had a disagreement with my stepmother, as well as my father. For this reason, I chose to cease contact with both, but only until I felt ready to communicate. Stan called me …show more content…
This is when my grandpa got feisty, and a bit cantankerous with me. The staff gave me plenty of giggles for going along with me though. Once the bill was set down on the table I snatched it without delay. My grandfather tried to smack my hand. Continuously, he tried to grab the check. I was not listening to him. As he had me by the collar of my jacket, half pulled out of the booth, mind you, sitting opposite from him, grabbing at me for the check, I made eye contact with the server and she smiled running for me. I tossed my debit card and she caught it mid-air. Guests around us were laughing at our humor and found enjoyment from our little tiff over the bill, and my stomach turned with glee. Consequently, I got cursed at, but that was ok. I told him, “I’m your grown grandchild, I will not watch you pay for the dessert I asked you to join me for.” Beneath the tough guy act, I could see the twinkle in the corner of my granddad's eye. Considering, I am the first of 8 grandchildren who has ever taken him to a restaurant, let alone gave him grief to pay the bill. No matter how small that bill was, I gave him a new experience and I felt him love every second of
On a tedious Thursday afternoon, the body of an extrusive racketeer named Fannin was found at Ernie’s Lunchroom by police officers. A testimony of the only witness, the proprietor and the only employee, Ernie has said “The murderer had leaned against the wall while firing at point-blank range”. There is also one imprint of the supposed homicidal murderer on one of the walls and the cash register had just been rung up at $8.75. The police believe that person C is the murderer from the hand position of the utensils/hand positions, the relation among persons B, D, and E, and the identification of the Y and X footprints. The victim of this heinous crime is also controversial and the media are portraying Fannin as a criminal due to his reputation of racketeering. Maybe Fannin did deserve what came to him but still the public ought to know the real culprit without no prejudices from the media.

Mrs. Nancy Hamilton (changed name for privacy) is 95 years old female who resides in a local continued care retirement community (CCRC) located in the Los Angeles County. I decided to interview Mrs. Hamilton for her successful aging. I have known her for 9 years and her aging process has not been an easy ride but she always maintained a positive sprit that kept her going even today. Mrs. Hamilton moved in to a CCRC in 2006, two years after her husband passed away. Mrs. Hamilton has one daughter and one son. Daughter Margaret lives nearby and visits frequently and takes care of personally needs such as transportation to medical appointments or shopping for skin care products or clothes as necessary. Son, David lives in the Northern California and visits a few times a year.
In Ted Talk, according to Ann Cooper, we have to change school lunches and educate children about a food by creating farming class, so they can verify what foods are benefit for themselves, and they are able to avoid unhealthy foods. There are two types of foods: healthy foods and unhealthy foods. Healthy foods equal to organic foods which are fresh as an element of healthy foods. In contrast, unhealthy foods equal to processed foods that contain chemicals. The USDA allows all of processed foods that are harmful to our children. According to the USDA, the USDA stands for United States Department of Agriculture that controls our food system. Cooper stated that we have to be ashamed for our food system as the richest country. The U.S. spends
For the majority of high school students having the option to go home for lunch or to go somewhere to eat would be the ultimate dream. High school students do not think about the dangers and worry that open campus lunch would cause for staff and parents. They do not think about the small sum of students who would spend that time doing drugs or making messes at local businesses. There would also be an amount of students who would not return, or they may be late returning to school due to traffic at fast food places. Faculty would also have the fret of an increase of car accidents caused from the limited time students would have to go wherever and get back before their next class. On the other hand, students would learn responsibilities and time management. Parents would be forced to give their children money to eat out. Along with the money on their school lunch accounts, or they would be apart of the free lunch school program. Schools cannot have open campus lunches
Today, La Mirada High School has a “closed campus” lunch policy. A closed campus lunch policy means that students can not leave campus to eat and are forced to eat food provided by the district at a price rate which the school chooses. Each year La Mirada and other High Schools alike sell hundreds of lunches a day totalling in thousands of dollars in sales. Money is most likely a major factor in why most schools don’t have an “open campus” lunch policy. Is it right that schools only provide one alternative to bringing a sack of lunch to school when it comes to feeding students at school? To me, a policy such as closed campus lunch is unjust and needs to be revised.
Their findings indicate that socially isolated seniors seem to have higher ties to community agencies as indicating their higher utilization of services in general. This association of social isolation with higher service usage confirms the theory that isolated individuals use more services as a substitute for social ties” (Coulton and Frost, 1982 p. 336). In another work, Choi (1994) examined the effect of family support on social service use. In his study seniors were divided into three groups; those who lived with children, those whose children lived apart and those who were childless. The study confirmed the importance of children as informal care providers to those seniors with the most functional and physical problems. It also noted the role of family members as enablers to service
Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
I ambitiously decided that I would brighten the lives of the elderly by volunteering at a rest home, but discovered that the elderly were being neglected, shoved aside and forgotten. As I stepped into the home a pungent odor penetrated my nostrils, causing an instantaneous gagging reflex. The place was abounded with neglected and subdued inhabitants, yearning for attention. Anybody that passed them caused a sudden outburst of ranting. The negligence and disregard the home displayed appalled me, but helped me to realize that I wanted to make a difference and change the condition people live in.
President Harry Truman initiated The School Lunch Program (NSLP) in 1946, it was established under the National School Lunch Act. The program provides nutritionally balanced, low‐cost lunches to more than 32 million boys and girls each school day.The NSLP ensures the nutrition, portion, and safety of our children food, over the years do to the rise of childhood obesity the The USDA School Lunch Program is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our youth. Many concerned citizens, such as Eric schlosser author of Fast Food Nation believes that the USDA is not providing our children with the right nourishment. Many parents are taking it into their own hand and creating and joining advocacy groups. It is crucial that our youth receive nutrient
School boards have dealt with complaints and issues in regards to letting their students leave school for lunch, which is their “free time” of the day. Certain teachers say the so-called "solution" of closed campus during lunch is the work of district officials who aren’t trusting students during the only time of the day that students can socialize and be free from schoolwork and lecture. If a closed campus will “eliminate” problems such as attendance rates and low budgets for lunch, the lack of freedom will create more problems like rebelling underclassmen and misconduct among the students. There aren't even any significant reasons to enforce it. It would just be a big hassle for the students, and an equal hassle for the teachers who have
Throughout high school most students dream of eating Pizza Ranch, or Subway everyday for lunch. However most schools do not allow this opportunity. Exira-EHK High School should have open campus lunches for various reasons. The cafeteria would be less crowded, variety of food choices for the student body, and will save the school money.
The reason I chose to work on senior citizen issue, because my grandmother is living by herself on social security benefit. While I was talking with her, I found she doesn’t need only money to live, but she needs help on house keeping issues like maintenance, and especially a need of someone who visits her once a while. If my grandmother felt this way, I guess there are many seniors in Atlanta, who might share the same feelings. There are many organizations currently active in and around metro Atlanta to look after seniors, but success is a little. There is a constant need of volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts in helping seniors, doing maintenance work, and delivering foods on festivals like Thanksgiving and Christmas as we...
One beautiful day that summer, I was playing outside with my friends when my mom called for me to come home. I did not want to abandon my guard post at the neighbor's tree house so I decided to disregard her order. I figured that my parents would understand my delima and wouldn't mind if I stayed out for another two or three hours. Unfortunately, they had neglected to inform me that my grandparents had driven in from North Carolina, and we were supposed to go out for a nice dinner. When I finally returned, my father was furious. I had kept them from going to dinner, and he was simply not happy with me. "Go up to your room and don't even think about coming downstairs until I talk to you."
