Buzz! Click! This is what starts off my day as well as millions of other Americans. Sleep is essential to human growth and life. During sleep we dream, which is a way for our mind to set itself apart from the body and do whatever it desires. Dreaming is very complex and therefore hard to interpret since some can be controlled or linked to our feelings from a particular day.
We have all awakened in the middle of the night sweating and terrified of what just went on in our head, this is commonly known as a nightmare. A nightmare is more than just a bad dream; it is an intense experience that has an effect on the body and spirit. These can occur singly, as a part of a series, or as a reoccurring dream. There are many causes of night terrors; the most common types are those of an emotional origin. They often appear when our sense of who we are or who we want to be is being challenged.
In order to interpret our dreams, the dreamer must be able to translate and connect the images of the dream to their source outside the dream. Dreams are the language of the individual subconscious, speaking in symbol to help us see or work out inner fears or hopes and life desires. In interpreting dreams you should keep symbols in mind and how the subconscious uses them to get its message across to you. Sometimes they are referring to something that happened to you earlier in the day: at other times, something that happened long ago in your childhood. Even though we are the authors of our own dreams, we may sometimes be unclear as to what they are saying. At such times, we may need outside, objective insights to help us explore the dreamscape. If you find yourself in that place, it may be time to consult a professional dream interpreter.
Lucid dreaming is dreaming while being aware that you are dreaming. To become lucid in a dream, you merely have to recognize you are dreaming. Lucidity usually begins in the midst of a dream, when the dreamer realizes that the experience is not occurring in physical reality. Sometimes people become lucid without noticing, thus varying the quality of lucidity. When lucidity is at a high level, you are aware that everything experienced in the dream is occurring in your mind, that there is no danger in anything that you do, and that you are asleep in bed.
According to the Institute of Lucidity, the term Lucid Dream means, “Dreaming while knowing you are dreaming” (4). Knowing that you are dreaming will allow you to guide your dream in the direction you want to go. The realization of lucid dreams is done by the dreamer, when he or she notices what they’re doing is impossible to do in reality. Anyone can lucid dream.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, dream is defined by a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring involuntarily in a person’s mind during certain stages of sleep. Dreams have fascinated humans since the beginning of time. The recorded history of dream interpretation dates back to 3000-4000 B.C. with the Sumerians in Mesopotamia. They documented their dreams on clay tablets. People back then saw the dream world as an extension of reality, but that it was a more powerful realm. Furthermore, they believed that when they dream, their souls would leave their body during sleep and travel to the dream world.
Lucid dreams are really mysterious, in them the dreamer can usually control to some degree what happens in the dream world and how it happens. I have been having lucid dreams since I was 6 years old, at least that is when I became aware of it.
Despite the large amount of time we spend asleep, surprisingly little is actually known about sleeping and dreaming. Much has been imagined, however. Over history, sleep has been conceived as the space of the soul, as a state of absence akin to death, as a virtual or alternate reality, and more recently, as a form of (sub)consciousness in which memories are built and erased. The significance attributed to dreams has varied widely as well. The Ancient Greeks had surprise dream encounters with their gods. Native Americans turned to their dreams for guidance in life. Shamans dreamed in order to gather information from the spirits.

There are various types of dreams, however I would like to inform you about an interesting type called lucid dreaming. It is can be a fascinating and overwhelming experience at the same time. Many benefits can come from lucid dreaming, and like anything else, there must be disadvantages. However, lucid dreaming has been traced back many centuries ago which have shown that it is very beneficial.
Sleep is very important for human beings. Sleeping means taking rest for every person and each person spends one-third of his lifetime sleeping. Without sleeping, no one can exist in this world. Sleeping is essential for a person’s health and well-being throughout his life. Getting enough quality sleep at the right times helps all people protect their mental health, physical health and safety. Lucidity transpires during altered states of consciousness. According to Snyder & Gackenbach, as cited by LaBerge, lucid dreaming is normally a rare experience and only about a percentage of 20% of the world’s population reports to having lucid dreams once a month or more (LaBerge, 1990) which probably does not justify the existence of lucid dreaming. In addition, people have argued that lucid dreaming is just another theory and it is seems critical for one to be aware in an experience such as this.
Although many people confuse lucid dreaming with clear dreams or vivid dreams. Lucid dreaming is a skill that is developed to take control of the subconscious brain and manipulate dreams. On a regular day to day bases a person will experience a series of thoughts, images, and sensations throughout their dreams. But as they awake from these dreams they would feel distant or forget about them. That because while we are dreaming our self-awareness shuts down. Whereas if someone were lucid dreaming everything they would see, hear, feel, taste and even smell is as authentic as real life. Lucidity occurs during altered states of consciousness that’s when the brain realizes its dreaming and instead of shutting down our self-awareness it turns it on.
