Analysis Continuing medical education (CME) is “the process by which health professionals keep up to date with the latest knowledge and advances in health care”. Today, the structured continuing medical education system cannot properly support the development of health professionals. CME has become structured around health professional participation instead of performance improvement. This has left health professionals unprepared to perform at the highest levels consistently, which could impact on health care quality and patient safety. Additionally, the lack of a mechanism for coordinating policies and positions across institutions and organizations is a major obstacle to achieving an effective CME systems.
Application As a health care provider, I should invest in educational opportunities that give me up to date knowledge and skills, in order to provide the best patient care. Currently, there are various educational resources including, self-training modules, information about advanced degree courses, research and fellowship opportunities, and links to various conferences and meetings. Each of these tools for continuing education has its own advantages and disadvantages. I now that I have the knowledge to aspire to take up my role within one of the identified population foci. APRNs program developed my core competencies by allowing me to be more efficient adaptability with regards to newly emerging APRN roles or population focus. Furthermore, achieving my course objectives enable me to understand the specific APRN roles. For example, course objectives provide me with a better detail, and align my licensure goals with the responsibilities expected of each role. Licensure will provide me and my fellow APRN graduates with the full authority to practice. Also, certification is required to meet the highest possible standards as APRNs are expected to align knowledge, skills and experience with the standards of health care professionals. This field has very narrow margins for error, and it is therefore important, for APRNs to meet the highest and most stringent academic qualifications. In order to be a recognized as APRN graduate, one is required to complete formal education with a graduate degree or post-graduate certificate awarded by an academic institute and accredited by a recognized accrediting agency empowered by the relevant government education

It is up to the healthcare professionals to assess and evaluate the patient's learning needs and readiness to learn because everyone learns differently. Healthcare is very sensitive industry because human life is attached to it. Barriers during teaching patients or learning for patients might cost life and law suite. For example, if the patient is sick, the probability for the client to have the interest to learn is unlikely. Therefore, I have to ask the patient what he needs and what interest him from other healthcare professional around. By doing so, I can increase the interest of the client/patient to learn the information I am looking to provide him/her/them. Therefore, by gathering important information from the patients how best they prefer to receive the information and involving other health care team on finding out the effective way of the information can be productive are the best way to overcome the barriers of learning in healthcare
Continuing education (CE) for nurses is a critical component of providing optimal patient care. Continuing education includes both formal education and CE hours. Research has shown nursing education levels are positively correlated with better patient outcomes, improved safety, decreased morbidity and mortality, less medication errors, and decreased practice-related infringements.
