Emmy R. Walsh 6th Period The Invention of Contact Lenses Have you ever wondered about the invention of contact lenses or how they are made? Well if so, here’s some information that will make your train of thought stand still. This paper is about contact lenses, their history, and the impact the invention had on the world. Contact lenses are life-changing inventions and if they hadn’t been invented, life as you know it would be completely different, and so, in this paper you will read all about contact lenses, from when they were made to a few cool facts that may catch your attention. Contacts lenses and their history are two very interesting things to learn about. A lot of people believe that contact lenses are these super sophisticated things. The truth is that contact lenses are actually just pieces of molded plastic that people put in their eyes to “fix” refractive errors ( also known as eye problems). Contact lenses are almost the same as glasses and they are both actually very helpful. A few kinds of well known contact lenses are hard contact lenses, soft contact lenses, and hydrogel contact lenses. Every kind of contact lense can be colored almost any color the user would like and some contact lenses can even be worn at night to improve …show more content…
An example of one way is that contacts were made in 1887-1888 and are still by a lot of people today. The truth is: More than 30 million people in America today wear contact lenses! On that topic, did you know that two - thirds of contact lense wearers in America today are women? I think that is pretty amazing. Also, if you say the words “contact lenses,” almost everyone who speaks English and is over the age of 7 years old will know what you are talking about. Contact lenses are practically “famous”. In many lives, change is constantly happening. The economics, cultural values, and social ideals are different today from many years ago. For example, men many years ago rely on literature, libraries, and endless hours of searching for sources in order to make speeches and write stories, and they also had different modes of transportations such as trains. On the other hand, in today’s society, it is easier to find sources and to do research because of the advanced technology, and it is also unchallenging to travel due to the innovations of cars and airplanes. With this being said, it is idealistic that change has a positive impact on society due to the advancement of technology and new methods of transportations, and those changes attribute
4. In the early 1670’s Anton van Leeuwenhook, a Dutch fabric-store owner, began to grind lenses as a hobby. He used handheld microscopes to examine materials such as pond water and blood.
So one major investment in the 1920's to science was Medicine. In 1921 two Canadian scientists made a medicine called Insulin. Insulin helped people suffering from diabetes which made the world a healthier place. Then in 1928 Alexander Fleming found a mold that could kill certain types of bacteria. This mold became...
I’ve worn glasses ever since I was in the 5th grade up until now. I only had three pairs of eye glasses throughout the years. I really didn’t like wearing my glasses because they had a glare on them when I took pictures. I felt left out because most of my friends didn’t wear glasses. Now since I’m older and mature, I decided that I should get contact lenses. I went to the eye doctor and scheduled an appointment to get my eyes fitted to see what contacts worked best for my eyes. Getting fitted for contacts is a very long process. I had about four different trial pairs of contacts that I had to tryout every week before I got my prescription for them. It took a couple of weeks to get use to inserting them in my eyes and removing them. I thought it was going to take forever. To the beginners who want to know how to prepare for your contacts, how to insert your contacts, and how to remove your contacts.
Many of these new inventions shape the future for us; for example, the telephone helped us communicate with other people from around the world. Like for us right now, we cannot live without phones; our lives would be nothing without the telephone. Another great advancement was the railroad, it allowed us to travel much easier and much faster, it also allowed us to trade much easier. Nowadays most things are transported by train, airplane, ships. But back in the day they had to transport stuff by horse and wagon, that’s what motivated them to create the railroad that made every day much easier.
As the late 19th century progressed, technological ideas and inventions began to thrive. The notion that technology would impact life as we know it was an unbelievable idea to comprehend. People had no idea that something so simple such as the light bulb would become so vital to them and for century’s to come. Inventions such as, the typewriter, barbed wire, telephone, Kodak camera, and electric stove were created, however the major inventions created and use tremendously today are, Medicine, Electricity, and Transportation.
The topic for my essay is going to talking about Chemistry and Technology, and has a focused on the invention and influence on the microscope. Chemistry has helped people look at technology in a different way, such as by the way we use it and how easy it is to find data faster. Technology has also changed Chemistry several ways. Some examples are finding new viruses and finding cures to prevent diseases from spreading around the world and.
Gunpowder, the vaccine, blood transfusion, the telescope, surgery, the submarine, the barometer, the submarine, and the microscope are all great inventions that helped change the way people live today. They are some of many scientific inventions that changed the way of life for people.
As humans age, they frequently develop a condition known as presbyopia. This condition decreases the person's ability to focus sharply on those object which are nearby and is the result of the lens of the eye hardening. In addition, astigmatism requires a person wear prescription eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. Astigmatism arises when the curvature of the eye is irregular. The eye is normally shaped liked a soccer ball or basketball. With astigmatism, it takes on a more oval shape and resembles a football. Due to the irregular curvature, the eye processes light differently and leads to blurred vision. The degree of blurriness is determined by the degree of
When it comes to sustaining physical health and well-being, routine eye care often gets overlooked. All too often, patients never consider going to an eye clinic and meeting with a reputable eye doctor until they find themselves suffering from some type of vision impairment. However, regardless of age and current physical condition, proper and consistent routine eye care is a critical component ensuring an individual's holistic health for a host of reasons.
The invention of the bifocals was one of the most important inventions of the 1700s. They have changed the lives of both children and adults who have issues with their eyesight. They rid people of eyestrain and headaches. Also, bifocals rid people of the inconvenience caused by having to shift from one pair of glasses to the other. Bifocals also allow for more types of glasses to be developed.
Opposition Viewed through a Lens In his 1936 essay "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," Walter Benjamin seemingly draws a parallel with Platonic thought in his discussion of artistic reproduction's destruction of aura. Benjamin argues that the mechanical reproducibility of an image, with regards specifically toward the development of a photograph or film, causes the unique authenticity of the original image to deteriorate. According to Benjamin, a mechanical reproduction of a work cannot claim to be the actual work because it lacks the former's "presence in time and space, its unique existence at the place where it happens to be" (Benjamin, 3). Because the reproduction lacks the original's uniqueness, a mechanically reproduced

An example of technology is the printing press. The printing press was invented and perfected by Johannes Gutenberg (Printing Press Invention Led to Revolution in the Arts). “The Gutenberg printing press revolutionized book production and helped to foster the development of arts, sciences and religion” (Printing Press Invention Led to Revolution in the Arts). The printing press forever changed how books and papers were made. The Bible was the first thing to be mass produced in volume (Printing Press Invention Led to Revolution in the Arts). Since the Bible was produced in large quantities it was now available for the public. This created the time of the printing
