There are several projects made by different companies. There are several types of projects which include the software development that is made by the companies in order to improve their systems and provide the better services to the customers. The construction of the building or the bridge is also the examples of the projects. The project management is the process that helps to manage the project and provides different techniques to the individuals in order to successfully complete the tasks. The project management is responsible for the project from the starting of the project until the end of the project. It is the responsibility for the management of the project to provide the on time budget for the project and to complete the projects …show more content…
The project management helps to design the unique product or the service in order to achieve the goals and objectives. A project can be unique or temporary. The temporary project is the project in which the starting and ending time is defined and it has also defined the resources and scope. The unique project is the project which is different from the routine projects however it includes the unique set of operations that designed in order to achieve some goals. The team of the project includes the individuals that do not work together and this team is made in order to accomplish the goals of the project (Burke …show more content…
Each project has some limitations and it is crucial for that project to perform under these limitations. The boundaries of the project management are included in the scope of the project management. For instance, a person is sitting in the room that has four boundaries and that person can move only in these boundaries similarly the project management has some boundaries and it can only perform its function within those boundaries. The project cannot execute its function outside the boundaries. The boundaries of the project management help to avoid the confusion because the leader of the project knew that the individuals perform the tasks within the prescribed boundaries so it reduces the chances of confusion. It helps to reduce the thought that something is missing in the project. The boundaries of the project management help to eliminate the fear of the project leader (Williams
Gray, C., Larson, E. (2008). Project Management: The managerial Process. New York, NY: The McGraw-Hill Companies Inc.
Thanks to this approach the project manager is able to control the project from start till finish through the multiple evaluation and decision moments. Numerous processes are described like how to handle deviations and the various communication channels between the project members, the project and all the stakeholders.
A project is a temporary endeavour undertaken to create a unique product or service. They are goal oriented, have a definite start and finish time, must be done within cost, schedule and quality parameters. Projects involve the coordinated undertaking of interrelated activities (Project Management: Achieving Competitive Advantage). According to Tom Peters, “Projects, rather than repetitive tasks, are now the basis for most value-added in business”. Based on this, it is clear that projects are of utmost importance to businesses in both the service and the manufacturing industries.
A project is a defined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product, service, or result (Larson, 2014). The characteristics of a project in the context of project management include an established objective, a defined life span with a start and finish, the involvement of a collection of different departments and other professionals, non-static with innovations of new ideas/processes, a clearly defined budget and specified requirements (Laron, 2014).
Our bridge consists of three levels supported by 1" high cylinders to support each level. On each level we will have rows of both three and four cylinders extending across the middle. Each cylinder will be stacked on another, evenly offset and centered to gain support. Our bridge will be 28" X 2 -7/8". The length of our bridge is probably the biggest and most significant contributor to our outcome. The desk table gap is 14" long, while our bridge length is 28" long. This shows that we would only be testing a small portion of our long bridge. It is significant because we have the advantage of having twice the amount of supporters, while we will be only testing a small portion of our bridge. With all of our cylinders we know that this bridge will evenly distribute weight.
All project managers know about or should know about the "triple constraints of project management" - all projects are constrained by three elements: scope, time and cost. It is ultimately one of the most valuable resources available to us, but it has the least amount of flexibility. We cannot control the rate at which time is spent, and time cannot be stored to be used later. Time is a fixed commodity.
The project management process involves activities related to planning, controlling, and decision making. The process defines the functions of managers along with the functions to enable the team members to perform their functions. Through the management process of a project, project manager can keep the project productive and focused. The project team possess the authority to discontinue the part of the entire project if it is not fulfilling the expectations. The project manager also has the responsibility of working with the consumer in the situations of requiring timeline, inappropriate estimations in budget, or delays in event.
Completed in 1850 Brittania Bridge was the brainchild of Robert Stephenson and at the time was at the cutting edge of civil engineering, with all aspects of construction being on an unprecedented scale. Construction began in 1846 and was completed by 1850, it was intended that the bridge carry the Chester and Holyhead railway across the Menai Strait. Brittania Bridge had to be a tubular bridge to meet the criteria set by the board of admiralty, that the span of the bridge should be at least 100ft above the Menai Straits at all points. This was the first of many issues met and overcome during the conception and construction of the bridge.
IT is very useful for any company for satisfying their operational and functional needs. Due to the huge development in IT projects, companies need to keep themselves aware of changes in the global world. Companies must give more importance to ICT projects to become more popular in the competitive world. There are two different lifecycles that work together throughout the course of every project. One describes all the tasks that must be completed to produce a particular product and the second explains how to manage a product. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to achieve projects requirements, usually to time and budget.
In the past, it is not much pedestrian traffic along the street because of the lower population. However, due to the population increasing in 1960-70s.The government considerate that the number of pedestrian traffic such as footbridge is so important, so the government have to increase the total number of all pedestrian traffic like footbridge. With the time changed, the safety and technical of bridge structure form has also changed and improved. Nowadays, almost footbridge in Hong Kong is made by concrete including prestressed concrete bridge.
Our task at hand was to build a bridge, but not only that, it was to build an efficient bridge. For it to be an efficient bridge it had to hold more weight, than it weighed. We had to be able to design and build our own bridge. Both of which had to be good, because if either one was subpar, our bridge would not have been efficient. Not only did we have to do that, but we were held to many constraints and rules. The hardest challenge for me was that there were so many variables I could not account for; this was my first time actually building something similar to this. There was also another underlying challenge that came with this project; it was to find out if you were able to work well with a partner, and if you were capable of choosing a good partner. The challenges were complex in a way, at the surface they seemed simple, but were actually much more difficult than expected.
A bridge is a structure built for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacles such as water, valley. There are many different designs that all serve unique purposes. Designs of bridges vary depending on the function of the bridge, the nature of the terrain where the bridge is constructed, the material used to make it, and the funds available to build it[9] 6.2.1.1 Types of bridges There different types bridge structures they are as follows... 6.2.1.1.1 Truss Bridge A truss bridge is a bridge whose whole superstructure is composed of a truss. This truss is a structure of connected elements forming triangular units.
“Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to organisational and project activities to achieve the aims of an organisation through projects” (PMI, 2003).
Within the steps of project management, control is very crucial. Project managers spend their time controlling all aspects of a project, but are mostly focused on time, scope and cost. This is due to how easy it is to lose sight of the project objectives, particularly, on large projects that can quickly spin out of control. Having mechanisms to control the project is of the utmost importance.
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
